Interesting, from the sounds of some folks the difference between being totally on board with Frank and not being on board is a meltdown in the 2nd half of a MACC a few years back. "He hasn't won a Championship." One half is tarnishing your view?

In addition to the success in wins posted above, I will re-ask a question from another thread:

What teams from non P5 conferences have gone to 5 straight bowl games? Which teams overall have done so? Within the MAC - two. Ohio University from the East and Northern Illinois from the West.

I do not think that is what some are saying is even remotely close! Some are saying that after this long the expectation is to have at least one MAC title, especially when schools like, Kent, Buffalo, and Miami have one. Larry Hunter was totally in the cross-hairs for his long drought of titles, despite always being competitive and having good teams (save the 5 win team). Some just would like to celebrate a MAC title. And I'm sure the staff does as well.

Kent doesn't have a MAC Championship since 1972.

Like I said I would say most of the ones complaining do not remember the 80's and 90's. Heck I would even say they did not follow OHIO football before Frank Solich. Does anyone want to talk about the Knorr, Bryant or Tom Lichtenberg years..

I am not sure how to interpret your first sentence. I will assume you were just typing too fast.

I state that the lack of a MACC is what is holding folks back in having full appreciation of Frank. And then you present that the lack of a MACC is what is putting Frank is some people's cross-hairs. So we agree - the lack of a MACC is what is what people are getting snagged on - I contend that we had one in our hands and it got a way. Except for a better second half in that game, he is out of the cross-hairs. Thus folks are blinded by the second half of a game, and not seeing the wider success.

Another seeming change is recruiting rather SEC style--emphasis more on speed than pure size. I think it is paying off and will continue to help.

Frank should be superstitious--most in sports have that characteristic.

Wade Boggs ate chicken before every game and he played a lot of games and was great!

1-0 vs Kent wearing ALL WHITE

O-2 and each a smack down and the boys wear green !

Why wasn't OHIO wearing white pants at Marshall after the Kentucky ?

Lose the green pants like forever....

or is it a result of committing the fashion faux pas of not matching the helmet to the pants? This team appears to have an aversion to the yoda helmets.

Based on the poll, Billy is right, and then some. Apparently the median of posters is even older, from the Lichtenberg era. Very few are from the Solich era.

Monroe-we all know speed kills but if we've gone to speed where the heck was it vs UK and Marshall? We are really way behind both those schools in the players we are recruiting given the two scores. Just give me some big, tuff, hornary ones each and everyday.

Casper71--I thought that our D showed speed against Kentucky for the most part (save for the 53 yard run). Our linebackers were flying all over the place.

Yeah, not so much vs. stupd cow. I suspect that Kentucky and stupd cow will, as the season goes on, prove to be pretty good teams.

I think that we'll have some game face on about a year from now vs. stupd cow in Athens. Then..and sooner..you'll see the speed.

A question to consider is, if Ohio wins a MACC would that make the likeliness of Frank hanging up the clipboard for good more likely?

In my opinion that seems very likely. His mentors were Bob Devaney, and Tom Osborne, and both went out on top, more or less. Devaney won the National Championship in 1970 and 1971, then coached one more season, at 9-2-1, before retiring. Osborne narrowly missed a National Championship in 1993 before winning it in 1994 and 1995. He then coached two more seasons, going 10-2 and 13-0, splitting another National Championship in his final year.

I believe that like his mentors, Solich wants to go out on top, and if he wins a MACC, then he will likely retire within a year or two afterwards. I think he is gearing up for 3 very good teams - 2015, 2016, and 2017, and that at some point in that cycle he may consider retiring, depending on how they go. I hope he is able to retire on top.

funny how we've enjoyed the stability that Frank brings the program but at the end of the day we may fall victim to the same pitfall of nearly every MAC team- MACC = C-YA. I just hope that Schaus is here when he does go.
