We have a former football player that is a teacher there. Aaro Jeter, he still bleeds green. He returns to Athens every year, he can help.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

I saw this kid over this past weekend's State Tournament and while his team finished as runner-up, it wasn't for lack of his performances. What a stud. I saw him score 29 points AND dish out 11 assists. He's smallish but man was he good.

This kid will be an All-American at West Lib. He has a swag about him that would pair nicely with T-Kirk. I'm telling you, he's had two knee surgeries which apparently moved coaches away from him but I would love to see Saul take a flier on him and go for it. I think the reward is well worth the risk. If anything he is Stevie Taylor with more strength and even more of a swagger, which is saying something. Pick Central is a D-1 machine and he couldn't be stopped by any of their guys. When they did stop him he dished it off perfectly. People talk about liking Butler but entering this year and watching him this year he always looked athletic but a bit soft. Carry is not soft by any means and really would be a solid pickup.

He is signed to West Liberty, they would have to release him.

West Liberty is a very interesting institution. It is actually the state's oldest institution of higher education -- founded in 1837 before West Virginia was a state. I'm not sure if any other school in the Mountain State is older than the state itself.

OK, I checked it out, and I'm embarrassed to say that I had forgotten that Marshall was also founded in 1837, but later in the year than the March 30th founding date of West Liberty. The only other school that I could find that was founded before the state came into being was Bethany College, founded in 1840.

West Virginia was a state, it was a part of Virginia which was a state. Born and raised there, it seperated during the civil was but was part of a state so technically we are all part wrong and part right.

Hmm . . . I was obviously talking about schools that were founded before the state of West Virginia was formed. Obviously, these three schools were founded when those areas were part of the State of Virginia. In fact, in reading further, I discovered that the Virginia Legislature actually chartered "Marshall College," at one point, but at that time it was more an academy than a real college.

I have an hour lecture I can give on the facts involving the creation of the State of West Virginia, but I will spare you details, I will just say that the oft-stated, "We seceded from the seceders," is not correct. The separation was done in a completely legal way. The key to understanding this is to realize the legislature meeting in Wheeling, known as the restored government of the State of Virginia, requested the partition of the state.

This goes under the catagory of stupid weird facts but on my street in Charleston, West Virginia 3 of us went to Ohio in the same class (1970)and non of us were really close friends or ever even talked about it. One of us ended being a chemistry professor at Ohio. The weird thing is only 3 from my entire class went there ( most of the rest WVU or Marshall) and non of us even knew about until it happened.

Okay, I can appreciate that. In fact, I sometimes resemble that remark, as I've been known to be a smartass on this board on more than one occasion! ;-)
