Is Patton a nonqualifier or are we framing a moral? What are we doing here? Did all of our guys make the all-academic team? Let's beat John Groce and not throw shade.

I agree completely. And Groce will have something at his disposal at Kron that he didn't have at OU: non-academic qualifiers ability to stash a kid who doesn't qualify for a year (Harney, Tree). He will milk the poop out of that rule..and rightfully so.

This was a really good point and I thought about how good he is as a recruiter now with a much larger pool of candidates than Ohio/Illinois could get... Gonna be scary.

Not counting Patton, I think he's already got a 4* transfer, and a 3*, and a 2*. Not sure how many of those connections are from his prior gig. JG makes it look easy though.

He just got a transfer guard from Florida with a 6'10 wingspan. It is a good thing that we signed Kirk and Butler, they will need to be ready to rock.

They weren't talking about Patton or anybody in particular. They were talking about Akron's standards being lower on grabbing kids who couldn't get in here. It's not throwing "shade". It's a fact.

Groce has only had 3 weeks to recruit Akron. If anything, I say you can begin the apples to apples comparison with next year's freshman. Hold your fire on that line until we see what Groce can go get now being back in the MAC.

You are right. JG is already setting up his contacts.

I just got off the phone with AKRON new head coach John Groce, he is putting together a monster coaching staff.

I wasn't saying anything about Patton or generalizing that he would bring in only non-academic qualifiers. I was just mentioning that he can stash guys like Dambrot did who have not qualified. We do not have that luxury.

Framing a moral-Setting the up a framework for a moral victory. We start a narrative about people are signing nonqualifiers and if they beat us, then we start talking about how smart our guys area and how they are all-americans at heart. Don't let us have one or two all-MAC academic players. We will say Sual likes them smart and we will have fans that will say they once changed Bonzi Wells diapers at a gym when he was young and he was a bad hombre. Another will say that they have 40 years of recruing experience and will say that in their storied history of recruiting that this team is the smartest team that we have ever seen We say that athletes who come from good programs did not want to come hear because our academic prowess. Framing morals is pretty fun, but I prefer winning.

talk about "framing"

calling out posters for conversations that have never been part of BA is pretty bad. Framing Saul's preference for good kids that have brains enough to run a system is funny. What kind of kids would you expect? He learned his hoops from Bo Ryan... not a lot of dummies on those Platteville or Wisky teams. You think he is going to go out on a limb and take a flyer on a kid with a 1.8 GPA and maybe a few scuffles with the law? You seem to be "framing" for your own illustrations... NO ONE here has made any of the claims you attribute to them...and you are chasing folks away from BA with your babble. Many of us just ignore. Making a comment on the ability of Groce to use Kron's standards in his recruiting is just reality. No one is preconceiving an excuse. That's just fact and experience speaking.

You can make up your own terminology while insisting on facts in other of your posts . Facts are that other schools get kids in that we can't. Ohio Coaches over the years will tell you that. Find me a post where someone has made an assertion that an athlete did not want to come here because of academics. Find me a post where anyone has professed "recruiting experience" let alone 40 years. I think those only exist in your mind. Find me a post where anyone talks about a "smart team"...actually I can find that post on the Ilini board attributing the highest team GPA and kids that graduate to Groce but i have not seen it here.

Seems like you are FRAMING something from your anonymous perch...on that same Illini board and several others the mods would have given you a time out long ago and the board populace would have flamed you many times over. A real tribute to the mods here and the board in general that they read your posts with a chuckle, an eye roll, a shake of the head or just ignore.

I am sure that we have higher admission standards, a nonqualifier is a nonqualifier. A nonqualifier will either go to prep school or to a JUCO. We had one person on the all-academic team, I believe he had a 3.2 GPA in communications. Let's not act like we have Harvard standard. Toledo, BGSU, Akron and Kent are open admissions or they used to be so there standards are loose. We can get a slight moral out of that, but why go for the morals and not the W. Let's go Cats

well , well allen....what are you "framing"?

NO One has compared us to Harvard, Notre Dame or anywhere else when it comes to standards (besides the occassional A&M fallback school joke). The only post I can find compared BG and Akron to Ohio. NO OTHER SCHOOL besides those in states you mention have ever been alluded to that I can see or recall having seen....and you reiterate in the same quote what others have stated in the past. Very few here actually understand the Non and Qualifier status and I have not seen much about that anywhere here....more on the FB board in years past but do a search and see if the terms surrounding "qualifier" get you a plethora of info. Why are you dragging conversations in a different direction?

I think I will go back to ignoring your anonymous rantings. It is so much nicer when people can actually talk to each other and be accountable for their statements over dinner and a beer. I admire that you place winning over everything and feel comfortable making anonymous statements that are incendiary without ever having to defend them, but, you have a forum where no one really cares that much to come after you like would happen in CatsPause, IL Loyalty, Peegs, Gold and Black, Phog.net or others where you would be called out and flamed by folks who have nothing but time and very little regard for folks who sit behind a screen and pronounce the things you have been. If you are doing all this to chase folks away and burn this place down you seem to be getting it done. Congrats.

Daily, or at least, weekly eye roll's here. What's unfortunate is that there's plenty of real solid contributions drowned out by babble and nonsense about "moral's and medi's". And I agree with your thought from another post in this thread, there are at least a good solid half dozen, probably more, folks I have gotten to know personally through this forum over the years. I'm a smarter Bobcat fan, and I have more fun being one, as a result of those relationships formed starting here. Those who don't try to do it that way are really missing out on getting to know some good people.

Add my eye roll and ignore-sense as well. Besides, the word "need" or the variant "needs" appears to be the common term in his posts. Monroe is an old pal and I clench my teeth to tolerate his stuff (to a limit). Not here, though.
I've missed a total handful of games in the Convo or at Peden since what my oil tender swabbie buddy calls my "rice paddy grunt" days and will continue to be a Bobcat supporter, even through those loosing season and the Bozo section's "no more dumb shit" sarcastic cheers.
Tuesday's the rant day, right? Probably should have put this in the I'm done post.

Sir, I just want to be real. We are all grown men and women. I may have different opinions than you, but I love Ohio. I want the best for Ohio. I am optimistic Ohio and most importantly real about Ohio. If someones opinion hurts my feelings, I don't accuse them of trying to start riots, that would be letting my emotions to get the best of me. I would inbox the person and ask them what they mean or look deep within myself to see ifI have tunnel vision or ignore the person. God bless you, I know you are probably a nice person and I thank you and your family for your contribution to Ohio. I don't believe that you or I is the governor of Ohio sports, so the attempt to assign motives and tell people how they should think is not our job. I don't place winning over everything. Last week, two bobcats got drafted, I felt like I won the lottery. I don't know the young men, but I know that I had similar dreams and did not work hard, but they did. I celebrated their victory with them in spirit. I am happy to see our basketball players go oversaes, I lived in Germany for three years, it was tremendous for me, so I can only imagine how they feel. I do want to win. I want our players to say, I played for Ohio and we went to the tournament and we beat Michigan. I want them to get rings that intrigue people and cause them to ask what is that? They can respond, we won a championship in college. When I was in botcamp, we had a guy named Pegues and he played football for Mount Union. The drill sergeants looked up Mount Union and would ask him about their championships, they loved it. When I worked in HR, we hired basketball players and we always talked out their experiences. These young men do something that less than one percent of us do, so they are inherently expected to win. I want what the players want. God bless you again

I chuckle...is "God bless you" supposed to make it all better? The nonsensical rambling about moral victories, and telling everyone they're thinking is mediocre goes away when you say that, right?

Bottom line, let's see how this plays out in two years when both coaches are firmly established and go from there.

Otherwise, this was a kid I liked a lot at Flyin to the Hoop, and I think he will be a good contributor at Akron for John Groce.

One of the biggest advantages Saul has over Groce is that he is already established. The head start is huge and cannot be underestimated.

Ohio has had two losing seasons the last decade: Groce's first year and Saul's first year. Akron was already going to be down with what they graduated... These kids Groce is getting today aren't coming in and facing Kirk and Butler... They are coming in and dealing with year 4 Laster, Year 3 Dartis and Block and year 2 Carter.

It be said it before, Gareri and Vander Plas couldn't be more perfect fits for Saul's style of play. Even if Groce hits home runs, which I honestly believe he will recruiting for Akron, he's fighting a huge uphill battle.

The core of Saul's program has already been built.

You've all watched MAC basketball before right? I'm just not ready to assume under any circumstances, that Akron will suddenly be two easy wins next year.

Patton just led Cleveland St to the NCAA tournament. Double double in every horizon tournament game. I thought I remembered reading about him on here....couldn’t remember if we offered or not.

This thread was fun to look back on tonight!
