My buddy runs Hammer and Rails for Purdue. He has talked to Des. Write up. I know we are on him but Des does not seem to be showing much love.

As I read the last two write ups posted about Bane, I question whether or not I really want this kid at Ohio. It has nothing to do with skills, talent, or perceived judgement of his character. He impresses me as a great kid, and a great scorer. My reasoning is because he seems like he REALLY wants to go to Purdue, like he's holding out for something better than Ohio (or Miami, or IPFW).

Maybe it's me, but I'd wonder if he would want to transfer out after a year or two, and that would be a concern to me if I were the one recruiting him. I'm curious to hear others thoughts on how this comes into play during the process.

I mean wouldn't you though? If you think a bigger school might offer you and they're telling you they are gonna come watch you soon, why pull the trigger on a place you're no entirely comfortable with? There's the risk the scholly won't be available, but that's a risk he might be willing to take. I would say the good thing Ohio has going for it right now is that he's been on campus. He doesn't have that luxury at the other schools except Furman.

I'm not saying I blame him for that thought process. I'm really more asking the question for those who know the process more than me if my concern is silly, somewhere near correct, or just part of the reality of recruiting, that you get a guy and then he wants to transfer after a year or two.

The other side of that coin is that Purdue comes to the Convo a couple of years from now and he might really want to make them pay for passing on him.

I've had quite a few ballers ask for advice over the years pertaining to which school on their prospective recruiting list they should attend. I've never named a school. But I always gave them two things to think about. First, you're going to be a student on campus when the season is over, so think seriously about if you really want to be in that environment. Secondly, being recruited is very much like dating; you go hard and heavy after the girl you REALLY want to date. If she turns you down, you move onto your secondary options. Maybe you'll be happy with her. But, chances are, you'll still be on the lookout for a facsimile of Miss Right. Hence, if you're the backup option at the bigger school, there's a good chance you'll get recruited over the following year because you weren't the recruit it really wanted in the first place. And remember, using Mr. Bane as an example, if he signs with a bigger school now, that team can sign 2017 recruitees this fall before Mr. Bane ever gets prove to them he can play there. Doesn't mean you can't play there or won't stay there. But you may spend your first few seasons looking over your shoulder. Now flip the script. If YOU are the apple of a lower level school's eye that you do happen to like, chances are you'll play, play a lot early and you most likely won't have to wonder if your minutes are going to go to some four-star hot-shot in the foreseeable future. Your choice!

I hope your dating analogy was still in context, because "play a lot" made me chuckle. Or I just have a dirty mind.

Shabamon, you took that to another level that wasn't on my radar. Just picked up a loose ball, ran with it and scored--crossing the other team's goal line! Thanks for the humor. You did make me laugh and I can use that at this time.

Bane announced as an All Star.

Full story before it comes out in the Star the 28th

Thirteen players have been selected for the 2016 IndyStar Indiana Boys All-Stars, it was announced Tuesday (April 12).

Those chosen to the team will play four games in June -- two exhibition games against the Indiana Junior All-Stars as well as home-and-home contests against the Kentucky All-Stars.

The 2016 Indiana Boys All-Stars, listed alphabetically, are Desmond Bane of Seton Catholic, Tucker Blackwell of Bloomington South, Joey Brunk of Southport, Grant Gelon of Crown Point, Eugene German of Gary 21st Century, Eron Gordon of Cathedral, Kyle Guy of Lawrence Central, Brachen Hazen of Columbia City, Damien Jefferson of East Chicago Central, Kyle Mallers of Carroll (Fort Wayne), Tremell Murphy of Griffith, Dru Smith of Evansville Reitz and C.J. Walker of Indianapolis Tech.

The head coach for the 2016 Boys All-Stars will be Stacy Meyer of Greensburg. He will be assisted by Scott Hicks of Broad Ripple and Aaron Wolfe of NorthWood.

The 2016 IndyStar Indiana Mr. Basketball will be announced from within the group of All-Stars listed above at The Star's Indiana Sports Awards Dinner set for 6 p.m. April 28 in Indianapolis. Brunk, Guy and Walker have been named Mr. Basketball finalists.

The Junior-Senior exhibition games are set for June 7 and June 9 at sites to be announced. The first game against Kentucky will be June 11 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The final game against Kentucky will be June 12 at Bellarmine College in Louisville.

All four dates will be doubleheaders with the IndyStar Indiana Girls All-Stars. Girls will play at 6 p.m. with boys to follow on June 7 and June 9. Girls will play at 5 p.m. on June 11 with boys to follow. Girls will play at 1 p.m. on June 12 with boys to follow.

The Indiana All-Stars program was founded in 1939 when the Indiana Boys All-Stars played the state champion Frankfort Hot Dogs. The series with Kentucky began in 1940, and the girls portion of the All-Stars was added in 1976.
The Indiana portion of the All-Star Games is organized and produced by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. The Indianapolis Star, with its IndyStar brand, is the title sponsor and Best Choice Fieldhouse is a presenting sponsor.

Mr. Basketball is selected through a balloting process of coaches and media overseen by game organizers from the IBCA. The remainder of the team is finalized by All-Star game director Charlie Hall after observing numerous games and events throughout the season, conferring with coaches, school officials and media across the state and reviewing votes submitted by coaches and media who each can recommend up to 12 players.

He is making his decision on April 23rd. I wonder if that means we won't see any moved made until then?

Sounds like he is waiting on a Purdue offer. Hopefully for us they don't offer and we can scoop him up.

I hope Mr. Bane reads that site and sees how lukewarm they are on him. Come to a place that wants you and get the chance to beat Purdue.

All quiet on the recruiting front. Did a search just now and there is almost nothing on the net over the last 24 hours regarding Bane. Loose lips sink scholarships? Guess we will know soon enough, right?

Supposedly the decision date is today. He is still getting offers... NIU just offered yesterday. It was reported he was visiting Purdue yesterday but no report if they offered.

Winthrop offered too. It would be great if he landed in the MAC to make the conference better as a whole, even if he's not on Ohio.
