Like Paul Patterson at Taylor every drill, every shooting sequence was a competition. Free throws, shooting drills, everything timed and competition was against themselves, a number or the other team (white vs green). The whole idea was that everything has winners and losers and the losers paid a price. Motivation without yelling and screaming. Teaching without bullying and intimidation. Results oriented lessons.

We did similar things at my high school. Was a great teaching tool for concentrating on what you had to do at the foul line. I fully believe we became a better FT shooting team every year because of it.

My youngest son's team does it as well. For free throws his coach usually breaks them into four teams (they practice with the B team) and has team winners and then individual finals where the top 4 compete for a small prize (squeeze bottle, team T-shirt, etc.). It's typically done right after suicides so they are winded. The boys are really into it and it does a good job of recreating the pressure of game situations. They do similar things on other drills as well but the highlight is always the free throw competition.

Tomorrow's forecast may include flying pigs. Gavin Block dunked... And there's visual proof.

More of that when the weight room kicks in....

Yeah Borna, saw that one too! Fun stuff and looks like Gavin is an affable fellow which is good to see...

The dunk highlight actually came from the all-star game where Gavin also hit 3, 3 pointers in a row. Take a watch here: http://www.channel1450.com/Gold-Team-Gets-Bragging-Rights...

Saw this article about the top 20 players in Illinois...

Quote:
20. Gavin Block, 6-5, WF, Lincoln
He never received his due for all he does as a player –– and the career he had. A jack-of-all-trades wing, the ultra-skilled Block can handle the ball, pass and shoot the three. Plus, he’s a stuff-the-stat-sheet player who does many things well to help a team win. This Ohio recruit, who lacks ideal athleticism, has a terrific basketball I.Q. and helped lead Lincoln to a state runner-up finish in 3A as a junior.

Only other MAC player listed was Naviagto of Toledo (by way of Buffalo) in the "Outside the Top 20 …" section.

Thanks for the link.

I really think Block can come in and contribute immediately. Seems like a perfect fit for what Saul is trying to do.

I've seen crazier things happen.
