Yep, saw the commitment on his Twitter feed and verbal commits. Had offers from Bradley, American, sdsu, ndsu, siu-edwardsville, umkc, bucknell, Dartmouth, and northern Illinois.

This one came out of the blue. Didn't even know he was coming in for a visit.

Is it OK for me to think the sdsu in the above post is San Diego State University?

It would make his offers better, but unfortunately it's the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits. Second best nickname in college sports behind the UTSA Roadrunners.

Hey, SDSU is no slouch of a program. It's not San Diego State, but its good in its own right.

Meant no ill will towards the Jackrabbits. I guess the use of the word "unfortunately" in that case wasn't the best.

Point guard or big man?

Best available will be likely, but I think you need a true big. Kaminski coming in next year is not a true big, but a stretch 4. That all being said, if the Rogers kids says yes, grab him quickly.

I am hoping for either Rogers or Isaiah Maurice. Either way, I would be thrilled.

Getting Rogers would give us what would appear to be 3 dynamic guards coming in next year. The problem with that could be a size/depth issue at the 4/5 spots. On the other hand, the guard positions would be solid for 3 years for sure.

Personally, I'm rooting for Nick Rogers to be the one but I trust this staff to get the right commitments.

+1 - Only one true PG on roster next year. The best PF/C still needs to have somebody that can get them the ball. PG can take over a game.

Simmons and Rogers at the point would be something.

I know this kid is only a senior playing against local competition but I think he is what is missing from this team this year. We have bigs who really are just inside players, we have Mo who can shoot from deep but really is low post with a little drive sprinkled in. Stevie is the ballhandler and Bean is primarily a scoring 2 who has to be wide open to get his shot off. Laster and Taylor are attackers. Block seems like a Wally Sczerbiak (I know, I know, that's high company) type of player who can shoot fantastically from outside but drive and dish as well. Looking forward to how he complements guys like Ryan Taylor, Laster, Jaaron and Kenny next year.

Not a bad comparison stylistically. I was actually watching Block's youtube highlights last night and I thought his shooting motion was very similar to Wally's, from how deep he bends his knees, how he dips his back, and how he positions his arms in the gather.

Yes - I watched again - Looks A Lot like Wally - Except for the "sucks" factor.....

I "appreciated" Wally's talent - though I was never a "fan". Only Fiami player I can really say I was a "fan" of was Ron Harper - was impossible for me to not be a "fan" of him.

looked at length at the clips and remember watching Lincoln at state last year. Talked to a buddy of mine from Lincoln. WiSH I would have known about this kid last year when I was in Lincoln on the way from Peoria to Chambana

Clips are gonna show you spurts....the reason coaches prefer game tapes should be readily apparent.

I like this kid. Tough, gritty and humble. I like guys who let their game do the talking and put the team and getting the win way ahead of themselves. That comes through in spades in his interviews.

He has a nose for the ball and what little D I can see understands ball principles and help side fully. His shot is nice and well developed with only little tweaks being needed. he is a game time shooter as opposed to being a 5 o clock shooter. I like this pick up. Hope the locker room dynamics let him come in and be himself. He is a winner and a baller.

From reading about his high school team, it seems to me they play the same system Saul is trying to setup here.

Another fine performance. From the Lincoln Courier...

NORMAL — Lincoln High School didn’t lose any momentum with its eighth straight victory, 52-31 over Normal West on Saturday night.

Lincoln jumped to a 16-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, led by senior guard/forward Gavin Block.

He scored 10 straight points — featuring two 3s — in the opening period for a 13-7 advantage.

“The guys are giving me confidence,” Block said. “We’re gelling together and we don’t care who scores. We just want to get the win and play well right now.”

The Ohio University commit led Lincoln with 19 points and five rebounds after picking up MVP honors at the Collinsville Schnucks Holiday Classic on Tuesday.

“A Division I player is supposed to play like that,” Lincoln coach Neil Alexander said. “He’s been very solid for us and he makes everything happen. He’s unselfish and he really makes us go.”

I keep saying, watch out for Block next year. I really think he's going to be a major player for us. I think he and Dartis are both going to be INSTANT impact players. With Simmons, Tony, Ryan Taylor and Kaminski starting and Laster and Treg as bench studs we will have an opening for a wing like Block or Dartis. They are going to be outstanding. Block just has so many intangibles. Six-foot-six, shoots from the outside and isn't afraid to mix it up. Seems like a heady, good kid as well.

It'll be cool having great 3-point shooters like Block and Kaminski who are tall enough to shoot over the vast majority of guards. That'll create a ton of matchup problems for defenses.

And that is why Block and Kaminski are going to rule the MAC from outside. Travis Wilkins was 6-foot-4 and was solid with his shot. Wish we had him for four years. We will get four years of Block and three of Kenny. And I think you'll see Kenny posting up more and Gavin driving more. Next year is going to be Saul Ball. Not like this year where it's Sad Ball.

Two years of Kaminski, not three.

I think Kenny has a chance to apply for a 6th year based on being injured his first year at MSU when he red-shirted. But he won't be able to even apply for this for a couple of years so we won't know.

The NCAA will not grant him a sixth year, because he took one of his years of eligibility to sit out as a transfer. He will play one at MSU, one as a transfer, and two years playing at OHIO. If he had been injured for two of the years and forced to sit out, then they might listen.
