Dispatch h.s. hoops preview leads off its "Players to watch" section for the OCC Ohio, which it mentions as maybe the state's best basketball league, with Jordan Dartis.

An interesting early league matchup occurs next Friday (Dec. 12) when Gahanna visits Newark. Gahanna has a pair of 6-8 juniors - one has committed to Syracuse and the other is getting a lot of recruiting attention.

Jordie starting to heat up. Had 20 points-plus last three games. Hitting threes at a high rate, making pull-up jumpers and has shown past couple of seasons to not be afraid to take it to the hoop against the likes of Pick Centrals' Tate (now playing for o$u) and Gahanna's Javon Best (now at MSU) and pair of 6-8 juniors Ward and Moyer.

Check out highlights from last week's Newark-Gahanna game. Dartis is 35, Moyer 13 and Ward 21. Ward has nice followup dunk at 2:30 mark, and Dartis has halftime buzzer beating 3 at 3:10 mark. Moyer has committed to Syracuse. Ward's getting interest from high majors.

It looks like that was one heck of a game to see. I like what I saw from Dartis in those highlights. Making shots off the dribble, and off the catch. Also, he did a nice job of drawing in the defense and making the pass for an open shot.

Dartis had his best game as a high school player yesterday in Newark's loss to Westerville South, which came in with 1 loss and ranked 10th in the state. Dartis scored 36 points, hitting 20-21 from the foul line. He came in hitting around 89%, best in central Ohio. He also had eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. He moved into second place in all-time scoring for a program that is second in the state in all-time wins.

Twenty-one trips to the line against a good team? I like to read that.

As a 90 percent free throw shooter, you know he can shoot. That generally translates into a good shooter from anywhere on the floor.

Especially in the light that our starting PG has 26 trips for the entire season. Help is on the way.

My first post ever...Dartis became Newark's all-time leader in scoring tonight against Lancaster. Living in Licking County and having the chance to watch Jordan play over the years, I am thrilled that he will be wearing the Green & White.

Additionally, I have read this site for the past couple of years. I was a little nervous to post, but Dartis is a great topic to kick off my BA career. Hope to see everyone tomorrow. Like every good TOWNIE, I'll be in the cheap seats!

Passed Mike Giomi as Newark's all-time scoring leader. Giomi began his college career at Indiana before deciding playing for The General was not in his best interests (not the first Hoosier to do so). He then transferred to NC St., where I believe he played for Valvano.

Story and video from Friday's game v. Lancaster. Notice the ball cap Jordie is wearing during his interview.

It's amazing how quickly and far Lancaster has fallen in boys basketball. Not sure if it's due to Coach Greathouse retiring or the McKnight family running out of sons to play for the Gales.

Glad to have you. Hope your time on BA is good and you can add as much as you take away. See you here often, keep the updates comin. Dartis should fit here just fine. Gonna have to hang to pounds on that frame.

Off topic, but yeah, athletics at Lancaster aren't what they used to be. Rob Carpenter's football team hasn't done well recently either. Other than the fact that he ran out of sons, have no idea why...

prephoopsohio evaluation of Dartis' game vs. Africentric on Saturday...

Going for a team-high 16 points, Dartis had a productive and efficient afternoon for the Nubians. Knock-down shooter with unlimited range, while also showing more athletic ability on the drive. Scored in bunches, including 11 of his 16 in the second quarter alone. Did everything for Newark, finishing with four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Signed to Ohio, Dartis has a chance to play early for the Bobcats. Ultimate teammate that has been one of Newark's greatest players in school history.

If you want to see the future, try to find highlights of the first quarter against Gahanna tonight. Dartis had 16 in the first quarter. His first shot made was a long three from about five feet in front of mid court. Gahanna focused on him the remainder of the game, but he was still able to ice it in the 4th. He is a leader and commands the floor. I know the take on him is that he neds to bulk up,and while that may be true, I will be surprised if he red shirts next year.

Additionally, Gahanna's post, Nick Ward, is a 4 star recruit who apparently verbally committed to tosu this week. Dartis simply outclassed him.

Remember .....the Future is brighter in green and white.

Certainly a bit OT, but huge news if Ward committed to OSU. He was offered by the Buckeyes on Monday and has offers from a number of Big 10 teams. I see nothing on PrepHoopsOhio, ESPB recruiting or Verbal Commits indicating Ward has made a commitment to anyone. Where did you see this?

Central Ohio media excited about 6-5 guard out of Indiana committing as a replacement for D'Angelo Russell. No mention of Ward, however.

Continuing the OT...Ward's mom apparently came out with it this week. I'm not certain that this verifies the story, but it was also stated on NBC 4 in Columbus last night during highlights. Additionally it is on 247sports.com

I thought ward played soft and did not work for the ball. Matthew Moyer from Gahanna who committed to Syracuse is the better player from my view point.

I saw this yesterday but no mention of Ward. My Rivals has not updated and Brian Snow over on Scout did not know about it. http://www.lancastereaglegazette.com/story/sports/college.../

There is no way Dartis red shirts next year unless he's injured or academically ineligible. I'm really excited to see him on the court in green & white!

Let's put this to bed. Yes, Ward has indeed been offered by Ohio State, Wisky, MSU and others. NO, he has not "committed" to anyone.

HIGHLIGHTS here of Jordy's 24-point performance against Gahanna (whose only loss before Friday was against nationally ranked Wayne). Excellent 1st quarter along with brilliant moments throughout the game.

Watched the highlights and Gahanna seemed so much bigger than them especially on the glass, so I'm kinda surprised Newark was able to pull that game out. Always amazes me how these physically imposing HS teams don't just always dominate smaller teams. Guess the 3 pointers and a ball control game can keep teams in it especially with no shot clock in HS.
