Awesome, awesome news! This kid can straight up ball, and I have all confidence he will be an upper echelon mid-major player. I'm pumped.

And it's at this moment I realize it's still a long way until signing day.

I would be lying if I didn't have the same thought. However, with Saul in charge, I am confident that if we can hold on to him until the early signing period, he will be a Bobcat at this time next year.

Can someone with more of a pulse on the recruiting scene help me here? Is this the time of year when rising seniors see their offers slow down? The summer AAU season is slowing down. In some parts of the country, kids are already in school, and we are months ahead of when the high school season begins. It seems to me that most coaches have probably made offers to the kids they've scouted and desire by now. The main stimulating factor I can see prompting new offers would be when a recruit commits to one school and all the other schools who made an offer move on to option B.

I think bobcatsquared followed Dartis' run through this year's state tournament closely. Looking at the box scores he seemed to be the go-to guy for Newark and he was able to deliver again and again. I love that he's grown too. Tall PGs make me giddy.

EDIT: just realized he's listed on here as a SG. From the highlight film he seems to be bringing the ball up the floor a lot.

Our sports media company followed Jordy and Newark Basketball all season long (and will be doing so again this year). If you want to see some great highlights from games where he took over, check out the link below to Newark's game at Pickerington Central from last season. Plenty more on our site, too, where he has a barrage of highlights (vs Pick Central, vs Reynoldsburg, and vs Dublin Coffman are probably his other best games). Check 'em out if you've got a moment. One of our videographers/editors is a former OU grad/athletics dept. employee. Needless to say, he's having a good day today with Jordy now a Bobcat.

Many, many years ago I was involved in the recruiting of the Newark BB coach. " Quack " said no to the Cats but went to Olen, N Y to play for the Bonnies.

I see Quack at some high school games and continue to ask him how much snow they had in upstate NY.

I now will buy popcorn for him to thank him for his help.

There are NO former Bobcats
Just loyal BOBCATS

This gives some insight as to why he may end up with us and not a higher level school.  Was limited by injury in the AAU season.  Probably kept the big schools from offering and hopefully he signs early, preventing big schools from getting on him late when he explodes in his senior year.

College basketball is weird. You get a commitment from a player and just have to hope it holds.

I think at a lot of high schools, the best player also is the team's best ball handler and the guy they want with the ball in his hands most of the time. Those guys often aren't point guards at the next level, but it never hurts that they get that extra ball handling experience.

I didn't think we had a strong chance to land Jordan - nice get for OHIO. He should have a stellar 4 years here.

Unfortunately, so did Kendall Crute...

Seems like a solid pickup, and I'll remain optimistic that we keep him here!

Basketball coaches as a rule have an unwritten agreement that they get off a kid once he verbals. Unfortunately, when a kid blows up the bigger schools that lost a player or have a need kind of forget that as they scramble to fill a hole.

If you think basketball is bad, you should follow a bit of Football where coaching staffs follow and entice kids right up to signing day where many switch at the last moment. You would rarely to never see that in hoops.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Is the "hands off" rule declining because the "entourage" (AAU coach, advisers, etc.) is more inclined today to continue to shop a player - always trying to get the biggest name so as to pump their status? Just my guess looking in from the outside (and considering recent Ohio recruits). Not sure it is the kid that is less inclined to leave the school they first select.

Jordy was in action at a Cbus tourney this weekend. PrephoopsOhio liked what it saw...

Ohio commit Jordan Dartis was back out on the hardwood on Saturday after missing the majority of the summer due to a hip injury. Adding noticeable muscle to his 6-foot-3 frame, Dartis showed improved athleticism, while still being the knockdown perimeter shooter from a season ago.

Will be signing his letter at a ceremony at the high school Wed. a.m. Also signing at this time is classmate Kim Royster, heading to play for Indiana U. women's basketball team. I've heard her younger brother is one to keep an eye on. Already dunking as an 8th grader at Newark Heritage MS.

I haven't seen this link to this youtube video but I did read someone talking about the way Jordan took Duke recruit Luke Kennard to school on the AAU circuit. Check out at about the 55 second mark to the 1:10 mark and see Kennard's (10) reaction. At one minute he basically tells his teammates "I can't guard him!" Good luck in the ACC bubba. I'm so pumped for Jordan. If he doesn't start beside Jaaron from day 1 I would be surprised!

I'm not much for highlight reels. Too often the opposition is weak or lazy so it's diff to tell if the player's good or the competition is weak or disinterested. Here, though, I see some real skills.

And, for a kid who is around 6'0" or a bit taller, there's some nice elevation on the dunk at the end.

A buddy of mine who has been involved with youth/h.s. hoops in Upper Arlington for more than 2 decades called me this afternoon to talk about a scrimmage yesterday that included UA, Newark and Springboro...

He said said Dartis looked "Tremendous" against UA and was by far the best player on the three teams. Told me he thought Ohio has a star in the making. On top of that, he chatted with Jordy and his father and they appeared to be great people...
