Calipari to Arkansas. Wasn’t expecting that one!

Will be entertaining to watch how many jobs this impacts across the country or if they get someone from the pro level and stop the musical chairs early. Definitely the kind of job that just when coaching changes was about to settle down, Arkansas just had to swing for the fences and hit a HR. Regardless of how he has handled the last few years, it's as good of a hire Arkansas was going to get for how late everything went down.

Now the question bears, who is Kentucky gonna get?

I am basically just interested in the ripple effects of who they hire. If it comes from the college ranks, you know it’s going to impact several schools.

I either see Nate Oats, Bruce Pearl, or Scott Drew being the college candidates.

The only crapshoot who would send this entire thing haywire is Dan Hurley, but even I don't believe the rumors on that. Don't get me wrong, Kentucky is going to swing highly for the fences and back up multiple Brinks Trucks, but it ain't going to happen.

Jay Wright. You heard it here first.

*edit*
As for the other names..

- Billy Donovan... I buy the smoke. Think it would be an easy sell to the folks who wanted Calipari gone. Though probably like 2nd or 3rd on the list. Big thing I wonder is will they risk striking out on multiple names?

- Dan Hurley... the furthest south this guy has ever been is Staten Island. Would be the HR pick, but can't see it.

- Oats is an easy pick, but with Saban gone... that's a lot of free money that just came available. Would he leave?

- Bruce Pearl. Also a hell of a coach, has the personality you look for in that kind of job.

-Scott Drew. Too obvious? The fall back if the others say no?

Honestly, I might try to sell Mark Few on shaking up his whole life. That's how you swing for the fence.

I'll say Scott Drew. Bama has the financial resources to keep Oats. Jay Wright hates NIL/transfer Portal, I think he stays retired. No way in hell Hurley leaves UConn.

Billy Donovan hasn't gotten the Bulls anywhere, so he's probably canned after this season. He's just so far removed from CBB and all the success he had there I'm just not sure he's draw. But he might be the only name standing.

I think Mark Pope might be the fallback candidate in the shadows lurking.

He was a somewhat popular player at UK.

I think UK would offer an NBA coach pre-NIL/portal era. Now, not sure so sure any would be interested.

I can't shake the feeling the next fire is going to be more like Billy Gillespie than John Calipari.

Wonder if the rapper Drake has to sign off on the next hire.

NBA coach is a better job, and it's been a better job since salaries caught up with the NCAA in the last couple of years. No recruiting, better players, no arbitrary NCAA rules.

Always thought a college coach had to swallow his/her pride when "begging" a 17/18-year old to come to old state U. Can't imagine what it is like in this era. Having to recruit new players and re-recruit current players. All of whom are mercenaries now going to this highest bidder.

Why mess with that if you have a gig in the NBA?

Some people on the Sports Talk Stations out here are throwing out Rick Pitino's name.

That would be INCREDIBLE.

But would they do that? Pitino is on his last legs. Unless he gets in there gets his son in an assistant role and retires in two years, it's hard to imagine UK wants another coaching search this decade.

Rick has millions and is close to retirement. He's an East Coast guy. I can't see him going back to the pressure cooker of UK basketball and the cultural change.

Dan Hurley isn't going there either and I'm not sure why people thought he would. UConn has more titles in the last 25 years than Kentucky...

Maybe they'll do the thing where they hire an NBA guy like Juwan Howard who has no head coaching experience, but because he's an alum they'll spin it like he's gonna be amazing. Rex Chapman, come on down!

Coaches are racing to announce they're not interested. I feel more confident in my prediction. Shame because Lexington might be the best place to live among the top-tier jobs.

It's looking like Pope is the guy.

I'd be curious how far down their list he was. I've read that Drew turned it down. I'd love to know how many people said "thanks but no thanks."
