Not what we want to see while still awaiting more size.

Again, why not? As bad as MAC hoops has become, I think we should all want our conference rivals to get better. Personally, I love seeing Sparks returning to Ball St. and Davis coming back to Kent. I would love to see UB get back to a top 25 team, and Ball St. and EMU return to their glory years of the 1990s.

I just don't understand this thinking.

I don’t understand making assumptions on what one is thinking. My comment was more of a good for Kent, bad for us reaction. Glad he’s back, still not ideal to see without another post presence in place.

I think in recruiting we (collective we as basketball fans) take way too much stock into social media follows/unfollows. Malik Dia commented with crying laughing emojis on Boals' post today and as greencat already mentioned, he's committed elsewhere. There's so much we don't know going on in the background. You can't simply boil it down to "oh, he's following him on Twitter, so that must mean we have shot."

There's always a left field guy we weren't expecting.

Totally agree. FJC31, you've been around this and you know your stuff. But reading too much into social media.

I’ll just copy and paste — When it's the entire roster + staff, that's typically an indication a guy has visited with potential commitment incoming.

This was the case with Wiz, Jaylin, Carter Whitt, Myles Foster, Shereef, and now Gray. Some players committed, others were noted to have visited and didn’t commit. Social media is how they communicate and second instinct is to follow after meeting.

Agree that entire roster can indicate that a visit may have happened...

Kent adds Presbyterian’s Marquis Barnett. 14.5 ppg last season.

Not disrespecting Barnett but in the two games he played vs "power conference" teams (Vandy and Wake Forest) he was held to 6 points both times. I'm sure he's a good player but maybe won't strike fear into the heart of the MAC.

How quickly will we see the Gray unfollows? I'm not sure we can take on another guard.

At this rate, Jesse Burris will be our 6'5" post guy.

I’d say Boals an co are looking more for that 6’4 - 6’8 SG/SF now. I don’t see us going after another PF or C. I’d still like to see a Tom House type of player. Good shooter for the small amount of minutes he was given and plenty of height.

I don't think you can use his performance against P5 competition as a benchmark for how he'll compete in the MAC.

In 4 games against High Point and UNC-Ashville (top 2 Big South schools in regular season), he averaged 23ppg and shot 59%. High Point is just two spots behind Akron in Net Rankings and ahead of everyone else in our conference.

Kentucky was his best offer by far. Had tons of MAC and MAC peer offers. Not a typical Coach Cal prospect. Ball is probably a just right fit talent-wise.

Looks like the MAC could be bottom of the barrel next season.

Why does this league have massive defections but has trouble replacing them? Other mid major leagues don't have as much trouble.

EMU, CMU and WMU - currently collectively have 2 players coming in, and 20 leaving. It's still early though. Lots of guys unsigned.

Interesting for different reasons:

Akron has all P5 transfers, a lot of 'star' power so to speak, but not a lot of time or numbers.

Kent transfers are all somewhat non-descript, but all were 20-plus minute players and starters for their respective teams.

Which group of portal recruits proves to be the best only time will tell.
