Probably a pipe dream, but Purdue's Ethan Morton is in the portal. Lockdown defender who just couldn't get on the court this year. Former Pennsylvania Mr. Basketball, from the Pittsburgh area. Would get him a good bit closer to home and loads of playing time. He could do what Brandon Newman did in transferring to Western Kentucky and leading them to the tournament. One year remaining. Would be a hell of a way to use the Ike Cornish scholarship, replacing one former B1G wing with another.

Pipe dream likely, but it still hasn’t prevented the staff from what looks like at least shooting their shot. Both Boals and Lee started following him.

Boals also started following D2/JUCO PG Alan Swenson, brother of Stetson’s Stephan Swenson. Couldn’t find his ND College stats, but he’d fit the bill as a backup facilitator -> https://www.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2019-20/div1/players/al...

Only 1 year. I’m wondering since we kept most of our roster intact, we’ll see holes filled with players that aren’t as glamorous on the surface but fill the need. It’s probably that much harder to sway a kid here with limited PT and whatever we have left to spend.

Knowing what I know about Morton, while like all players he would like to have money, he really wants to play after not getting to this year beyond mop-up duty and being the sub defender in defense only situations. If Boals can sell him on playing time and the ability to set the defensive tone for a whole team while leading them to the tournament (and this roster is the favorite in the conference, I would say), we've got as good a shot at anybody. If there's a choice between getting a good payday while being only a rotation piece or taking less money with the opportunity to lead the team, he would without a doubt prefer the latter.

I feel like our biggest hurdle this portal season is PT. Someone like Morton would expect to come in and start again at our level. I can’t see Boals sitting Hadaway and AJC isn’t even a conversation.

I don't think Boals is going to plug a guy in as a starter, just because his former team played in a power conference. Wiz and Cornish transferred from power conference teams and didn't start.

If there is a choice between having Wiz or Cornish back, I'm going to shock the world and pick Wiz. 7-foot-tall humans don't grow on trees. The portal is beyond full of 6-5 wing players that averaged 4ppg. Many of them are from pretty good academic schools too. A nation would not have to "await."

I’m not entirely sure what Wiz and Cornish have to do with my post. Morton started last year for Purdue as a defensive specialist. I suspect in his final year, he’d prefer to start again, especially if he were to come to a mid-major after having starter experience at the P5 level. Hence, it might be tough to land him.

If The Whiz comes back for a third year after the skill he's shown his first two years in a Bobcat uniform, then somebody needs to do a welfare check on me.

A nation waits for The Whiz retirement announcement, not for season #3 wearing the green and white.

I didn't say Boals would plug Morton in as a starter just because his former team played in a power conference. I said it because he would instantly become the best defender on the team, with great size, and some distribution ability.

Just some clarity: he didn't start this year. He did previous years. That's why he's transferring. He wants to play and Purdue is out of scholarships.

Yea, I hear you. Our entire staff follows him now. I'd welcome a low-post plus defender.

Zane Meeks has entered the portal. We offered him out of high school, but he's been a journeyman since with stops at Nevada, San Francisco and Arizona State.

Creighton's Fredrick King has entered the portal. Almost a deja vu situation of what Reef was when he came here. He's a load at 6'10", 234.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/fredrick-kin...

Didn't play at all during their tournament run. Had 14 and 5 on 6/8 shooting vs. CMU early in the year.

Having been to St. Bonnie several times, I can't imagine anyone wanting play there. TINY, unimpressive campus, no town to speak of - far more remote than Athens - and an old gym. But hey, that's me.

They have history and are a top tier program in the A10 right now. I'm with you about Olean but SBU is a close knit community and their students love the basketball program. You'd be surprised with some of the talent they get over there.

Feel like we've been talking about him for years but it just never panned out for him at the college level. He's been part of great teams but has barely seen the court during his career.

Man played a third of the minutes the Wiz played. Last year apparently he went to Marshall for a workout and they said no thanks.

In my head canon, Bonnies are our biggest non-conference hoops rival. We've played them a lot. Sometimes we win, sometimes they do. Good basketball culture. Good fans. Competitive games. Would love to play them every year.

This is really bordering on the "Kevin Bacon" type of tangent.

This kid from Dayton (via China) played a year of NAIA ball with Jason Terry's kid if I understand it right. Were we ever interested in him as a walk-on or anything?

Don't necessarily think Ohio has a legit shot at landing this guy or think he fills a position of need, but Illinois guard Sencire Harris has entered the portal and is an intriguing prospect. Was a borderline Top 100 recruit out of Akron SVSM with high major offers coming out of high school. Played pretty well as a freshman then was redshirted this past year - not clear if it was due to injury or just to bulk him up.

He shot 20% at the FT line the last season he played?

Seriously?

Bowen Hardman - reserve guard at Ohio State - is in the portal.

He now follows Boals, AJ Clayton, and Jason Preston.

Boals is following him back.

6'3" Former 3 star from Cincy. Shot 42.3% from 3 last season. (limited mins)

Would be surprised at this one. If it's a guard we want, a true point runner would be better, plus a big, plus a wing forward. Hardman as I remember is primarily a three point shooter.
