Nah

But even with Searls joining up, some other power forward type (besides Evans) might be good insurance since injuries do happen now and then.

This is the last year of the Covid "bonus" year which it why there is such a bumper crop of talent in the portal even though N I L might make it a yearly event. UCLA just took a commit from a guy ranked #104 in the portal. You know it's a deep portal class when that same site has Sullinger and Marcus Hill ranked #167 and #168....and Indiana has shown interest in Hill.

Thus, getting a combination inside/outside power forward should be an option in addition to a combo guard who can play both "quarterback" and wing. I like the Hall kid that's leaving Tulsa. He was buried on the bench so the stats are not impressive but he has that Ali Ali versatility.

I don't see Reynolds landing in Athens. The only P5 talent we're bringing in is likely guys looking to carve out more PT/unproven. I agree, though. I'd like to see another forward type.

I think that more than likely comes in the form of a Daniel Nixon (JUCO kid we reached out to) or Antwone Woolfolk (EJ4's teammate/Rutgers) type, however.

AJ Smith from Southern Indiana would be great but his numbers scream bigger step up.

Reynolds has already committed to USF. That's school number four and I've seen UC fans call him lazy this season.

Absolutely we should get another front court player, but I'd prefer someone with two or three years of eligibility left. Even in the transfer era and some teams needing to flip their entire team from one year to the next, it would be best to employ some amount of long term planning. Clayton, Searls, and another one year rental leaving at the same time leaves only Evans and an out of position Hadaway as your returning front court in 2025.

It will be interesting to see where MiQuan Tucker (6-7/205 juco forward) ends up.

He averaged 24ppg last season (around 6th nationally) 37% from three, 80% FTs

Hopefully we have shown interest on the down-low.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin transfer AJ Storr is demanding $1 million from his next school. Kansas countered with $750K and AJ declined.

$1 million. To average under 32% from three and 0.9 assists. As a guard. At his third school.

He saw that bag that Hunter Dickinson got from the Jayhawks and was like "why the hell not?"

I feel like we continue to contact more stretch 4/wing types than true bigs and PG’s. At least house is 6’7.

He had an offer out of h.s. from Georgia.

He also had offers from Rice and Tulane = academics will never be an issue.

How about that Fear Leon? The nation would "never await" grades being posted.

For me to ever type "a nation never await" will be a great day.

Hahahahaha.

Archie Miller was getting paid more than $3 million a year to look bored on the IU bench. This is really something to see players - good and not so good - demanding large salaries, too.

This is a mess for college basketball. But I contend the original mess was allowing ridiculous amounts of money to dominate college athletics. Once the universities allowed that, the AJ Storrs deserved to be paid on a commensurate level with the Archie Millers.

Those who contend any single player is worth anything remotely close to the same value as a top tier coach understand nothing about college basketball.

A top player could give you 1 or 2 championships over 1-4 years. A top level coach will bring you conference and national recognition and titles for decades. They will bring in 10s of "top tier" players.

Then there's the supply and demand part of the equation. There are maybe 10 coaches in the world that can succeed at the Coach K level. Maybe 50 that can generally succeed at top levels. Compare that to the quantity of elite players. You get 25 McDonalds All Americans every single year. There are over 1400 players in the portal, if even 10% are top contributors that's another 100+.

So not only do coaches provide more value, they provide it for longer, and there are less options to choose from.

Put another way. If we swing and miss on a single recruit, is it the end of the world or do we just go to work trying to find another guy? Compare that to how disruptive it is to the program to lose a John Groce, Jim Snyder or Danny Nee.

Players and coaches values aren't even in the same stratosphere.

Maybe it’s a good thing we didn’t land him. Who knows if he’d stick around. That said, would totally revisit. My gut tells me he'll take a stab at a bigger school.

Can’t see him coming here. But I am convinced we would have beaten Akron in MAC Tourney final with him.

Yea, agreed. I think we're a landing spot for P5 reclamation projects and top lower level (including smaller D1) talent.

We are not on the list of schools to reach out to Foster. It's mostly P5.

These guys are the ones who will price themselves out of the game. Got to love the advice and direction some are getting.

Ohio portal target last year...James Okonkwo is back in portal. No shocker. He was previously at West Virginia before going to North Carolina. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Okonkwo practiced with the team last year before signing with UNC? Not sure how I'd feel about going after him again since he didn't play at UNC...averaged 1 point per game.

Beat me to this. Yea, I remember reading that at on the board. I wonder if Boals would even bother with guys who took the highest bidder only to end up in a lesser position -- depending how you look at it.

Foster went to a losing team, back in the portal. Could have been the difference for a winning team (us) and still parlayed it into a bigger opportunity. Okonkwo got to experience the tourney, but hardly sniffed the court.

I'm just waiting for Javonte Brown to re-enter at this point.

You'd think this could be a cautionary tale for younger players coming up. Man could have been an impact player here, but saw the bag at a blue blood, ran with it, and probably got bored playing only 44 minutes all season.

He follows both Casey Crawford and Mike Cifliku, so I’m guessing we’ve been in contact.

The portal is overflowing with 6-7 white kids from smaller schools.

Can't we just get a different one?

Like Keller Boothby. If he was any whiter, he'd be clear.

One season he hit 49% from three.

And being from Cornell, a nation would never have to await grades being posted.**

** Right, Fear Leon?
