Boals overall record vs Akron/Kent/Toledo: 7-17. Let me repeat.....7-17.

On the broadcast last night, Boals told the announcers all that matters in this conference is 3 days in Cleveland. He's correct about that and that's been my stance as well since this conference will never ever be a 2-bid league again moving forward. And right now Boals is living large off of the 3 days in Cleveland in 2021. Which is why he has rope and can never be compared truly to Saul. BUT. BUT. He needs to right the ship.

Folks...Ohio basketball is currently ranked #217 in the NET. I never truly thought I'd see that number under Boals. Mr �no one wants to play us� has systemic issues with this team. His best player (Hunter) is broken. His offense has a bizarre and unorganized flow. There�s no effort to get AJC shots because he�s buried down low. The D last night was a mess. When your highlight is �The Whiz wasn�t dreadful� that�s not much.

Somebody mentioned it on another post that Boals just doesn't look like the Boals of the past on the bench. Did he get content? His safe is seat for a long time. There is no pressure on him. Hell...we can't get a student media member to ask him why IJ "Bahamas" Ezuma is wearing street clothes this season.

I'm not pushing the panic button. But this staff seems to be well behind the upper echelon of the league right now. Toledo played five freshmen last night and three of them are major contributors right now. Meanwhile, we have Ben Nichol redshirting. Is Burris really going to come in and contribute right out of the gate next year? This year looks done. And quite frankly....looking at the roster of what is coming back currently...how can we say next season looks much better? But hey...regardless...remember...nobody wants to play Ohio. Well, except Defiance.

Personally, no I don�t think so. If we were talking about football, maybe but not basketball. We talked about how great he was his first two years and now we think he can beat three teams in the MAC. All top three teams seem to have had a pretty solid record for the past ten years. Ohio on the other hand, not so much. Boals took the job when we were 4 feet down in a 6 foot grave. I think if we had a true center, this season would�ve gone differently but Boals said it himself. He got out bid. Money talks and we don�t have enough to make that difference. Plus if you look at the area of the top three schools, a lot of good high school programs are up there. In my honest opinion, it�ll be easier for those schools to recruit the Columbus area as well since the kids will be used to a city aspect. After all of that though, I understand where you�re coming from. I get irritated when we lose the games against these three but I�m not sure being alarmed is the right thing to do right now.

Oh look, we lost to Akron and FearLeon is doing his best MDWST impression by complaining about it on 89 threads.

We are a .500 team with lots of injuries, playing on the road, against the overwhelming best team in the conference. And you're shocked we lost? Amazing.

Guess what? We're going to lose Friday at Kent too.

This team will still end up a 5/6/7 seed in Cleveland. It's a down year. The world isn't ending.

As of last night, there is one injury on this team.

It's not that we lost to Akron. It's that we are a .500 team and we will look like one going against Akron. That's due in part that this roster is constructed/managed in a way that lends itself to this kind of result. As I've said before, season-ending injuries happen, minor injuries like with Miles and Elmore happen. But we also failed to fill a scholarship, we are using a scholarship to redshirt a freshman, and we are carrying IJ Ezuma for two years. That combination of factors is why our available bigs combined for three rebounds against a team that isn't overly huge. It's why we are often playing three guards under 6'2'' at the same time.

With our investment and pedigree in MAC basketball, we should never be a .500 team in conference. We're not Northern Illinois.

That said, I thought we fought well for 85% of the game and I expected us to be completely thrashed, as has been the case at the JAR for better Ohio teams in the past. It's late January and we have a losing record yet have not lost by double digits. Kind of goes to show that we'd probably have a far better W/L record if we entered this season with a full deck.

Agree 100% percent with the above statement from shabamon. 1) The Convo is the best and largest by far basketball facility in the conference. 2) Ohio's head coach is one of the top two paid head coaches in the league. 3) Ohio consistently plays more home games in the preseason than most of the other league schools. The surplus of games in Athens usually amounts to more wins before MAC play. More wins before January should provide more confidence heading into league play.

Having said all that, this team is quite capable of ending up in the top four. Buffalo twice, Miami twice, at NI, at Ball State and BG/Kent home are not scary games. ESPN predictor matchup has Ohio favored in all of those games.

BTC don't give up on this season. The league is not strong and Ohio can win a bunch of games in February and early March.

Not going to get any easier assuming everyone stays bedsides Cochran who graduates. Simmons and Wilson look like staples moving forward. Not sure anyone caught the announcer talking about Wilson, but he was Michigan Gatorade POY last year. Impressive reload considering Dennis left.

Forgot he only played 9 games last season due to injury. You might be right in this day and age about him being granted another (6th) year.
