Iowa going down. Could the Big Ten be finished by the end of today??? I think LSU is a tough matchup for Michigan.

Gonzaga is turning into the new Duke (don't mean it as a disparaging term).

Our guys have nothing to hang their heads about losing by 14 to #5 Creighton. #3 Kansas trails #6 USC by 30 pts with 4:00 to go.

I was thinking the same thing. Kind of puts our disappointing loss in perspective. I was so impressed with JP's postgame interview. He basically took blame for the whole loss -- citing his missing "makable shots" and then went on to praise all of his teammates, including those on the bench. He followed that up by saying how be loved Coach Boals. He is such a sincere and humble young man. Can't help but love him, even in defeat. He'll be back next year -- better than ever. OHIO's best basketball days are ahead not looking back in the rearview mirror. Go OHIO!

I love that JP took ownership but he didn't have to do that, in my opinion. Just like DJ didn't have to take blame for his poor UNC performance. This team won 10 of 11 and were so darn hot, we had to hit a roadblock at sometime and Creighton was that roadblock. Couple that with Creighton struggling for several games and it was a match made in H@@l for us. It's funny, I have friends who are Buckeye, Mountaineer or Kansas fans and they are so angry at their teams. I feel blessed to have had the run we were on the last few weeks. It was magical starting in Cleveland and ending with so much run in the media. That can only help us so who cares if we lost by 14 to a Big East team? Who cares that JP played poorly? Great time and feel fortunate to be a Bobcat this morning.

Great year and sing no sad songs for us. They were the better team. We never made a run in the second half to get the deficit down to a few possessions.

But we did! It was 9 and we had multiple chances to get even closer. That killer shot just never went down.

When we're not hitting threes we're in deep trouble and last night we hit only 23%. Preston might've been 0-3, but others were way below par as well -- BVP was just 1-6, Roderick was 2-8, Sears was 1-4. Preston had very few really good looks last night because Creighton was in his face all night. And hardly anybody had a good night shooting in general, so that's why we were only 31% from the field. Preston was only 1-10 but BVP was just 3-12, Sears only 2-8, McDay just 4-14, and BVP 4-14. Only Wilson (5-8) and Granger (2-2 in nine minutes) had decent shooting nights. A few shots started down then popped out but overall it was just a general malaise.

Even if one is not sincere (and I do not believe that to be the case with Mr. Preston), it always pays big dividends for a team's designated star to take full responsibility for a loss. It's classy. Likewise, I loved watching the Bobcats help Creighton members up off the floor after they fell. In addition, Justin and Ben embracing one another as the clock expires instead of hiding their faces in tears shows that they play for each other and not apart. It's a game for God's sake and should be only one part of your college experience. One gets the feeling with major programs like Ohio State and Kansas is that there is no other value to going to school at these places other than potential bragging rights come the end of March or through out the year. Whether we win or lose in Athletics, there is just a fun shared pride of simply being from Ohio University. I have watched my friends and colleagues from bigger universities over the years appear more depressed and frustrated about the fate of their athletic teams rather than being genuinely happy. That reminds me of the old saying that "you are entitled to one thing in this world, and that is absolutely nothing!" Therefore, enjoy the process, the people around you, and the whole experience for what it is, and you will enjoy satisfaction with life far more than disappointment. I think this Bobcat team reflects that idea.

Does anyone know how much money Ohio and Buffalo have made the MAC over the last decade because of their tournament wins? I know each win is worth one unit or whatever, but the amounts change like every 5 years or so.

All I'm saying is I haven't seen a thank you from the other 10 teams and it's kind of a pissing me off.

(P.S. Thanks Western Michigan and Northern Illinois for doing the heavy lifting in football over the same time span)

Itís currently $1.68 million per game paid out over 6 years. Since MAC is guaranteed the first game, it appears the Virginia win earned an extra $1.68M for the league. I thought I read years ago that the MAC divides the payout by 13 with the participation team getting 2 shares and other schools 1 share each. If so, then Ohio would get about $517,000 and other schools $258,000 from this yearís tournament ($3.36 Million divided by 13). Which means OU made about an extra $129,000 for each MAC school ($1.68 / 13) by beating Virginia.

I remember when UD was in the same conference as Loyola and the Flyers won the old Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now the Horizon League). That old conference would be a power house now. Check the 1990 teams:

Dayton
Butler
Xavier
Marquette
Loyola Chicago
St. Louis
Evansville
Detroit

Living in Chicago through the era of the MCC I always enjoyed watching Dayton, Butler, X and Marquette coming to play at Rosemont or Alumni Gym

Thanks for that. Tommy and I were talking about the division of shares with my wife on the way home from Hinkle. She was talking rather angrily about Eastern leeching off of everyone else. It is precious to get the view of everyday fans who don't have anything but Bobcats in their wheelhouse. I forgot the method of distribution but IIRC it came after Ohio had success in the tourney to reward the teams that were investing in order to give the program a better chance at advancing. Any one else remember these discussions?

Just found two sources. First, an article from last year that says the MACís first ďbaseĒ unit is divided equally and any additionally earned units go into an ďincentive ď pool.

ď A MAC source told us last year that the league gives out equal base shares to its 12 members. Units earned above the base number of six for each six-year cycle, however, go into an incentive pool. Those distributions, a school source told us, reward programs for such things as the number of home games it plays and its RPI ranking.Ē

https://www.crainscleveland.com/kevin-kleps-blog/mac-and-...

And from 2018 MAC Spring Conference Meeting saying teams that win in the tournament get 30% of units earned the next two years:

ď- Revise the MAC menís basketball incentive plan to further encourage the Conferenceís Ďright-sizedí non-conference scheduling philosophy, replacing incentives for non-conference winning percentage with incentives for wins over Quadrant I and Quadrant II non-conference opponents.
- Additional change to the MAC menís basketball distribution policy to reward success in the NCAA Tournament. Specifically, to provide teams that win in the NCAA Tournament to receive 30% of the value of the units earned the next two-years.ď

I just wanted to say how prOUd I am of these young men. They kept fighting to the end!!

With that being said, I saw Tanner Groves from EWU entered the transfer portal today. Had 35 on Kansas as a 6'9" Forward. Do you think we should be looking at this guy to add to the squad?

Baad basketball because of the scores or because it was predominantly excellent defense and planning by both teams on the court at any time?

Syracuse was to only team that play poorly IMO. Still undecided whether they played badly or they were taken out of everything they were trying to do. I kind of liked the game planning and chess game aspects of the entire day. But I did take great pleasure in digging at my friends with 22 point 20 minute half performances as they believe HS games need a shot clock.

A HS shot clock will not make their "scoring ADHD" go away. Those teams yesterday were not stalling or sitting on the ball .....just as HS teams that score 33 points in 12 more minutes are not "taking the air out". Defensive schemes and good coaching with analytics and HUDL type programs are making game planning and taking away stuff at the HS levels are causing the scoring levels in isolated games.....not playing 4 corners and stall ball. Most kids and teams get the ball off in 22 secs or less in HS ball.

Might be true in some instances. However, I've seen too many h.s. teams, both boys and girls, run an old Phil Ford-like 4 corners with the defense refusing to come out of their zone D. Not enjoyable to watch but it does get the game over before 9 p.m., which is a positive.

Too much thinking there.

If Iím reaching for my phone, itís bad.

Itís entertainment. If it's not entertaining me, I donít have time to waste time on it. I was reading a book while the games were on and left for a walk during another. And a two year old who wonít watch a second of anything but the commercials.

I donít get paid to watch these guys dribble around and miss shots anymore.

Totally agree with you there. If it does not grab you then I would leave too. A big reason why the NBA does not get much run around here. I find more entertainment at the park or the Boy's CLub here in Muncie than watching the Pacers play Eric gordon, Jeff Teague or any of the kids I have known and watched since 3rd grade.

Dunno how to speed up a 30sec clock. Can't be much dribbling around even if you are last paced UVA. Missing shots because they are well defended is going to happen at this level. We have all heard the line........"defense and free throws win Championships" and Paul Westhead (who I positively loved the style) is not walking through those doors.

In the end....the game has enough facets that everyone can love or leave. I like watching a game without ever looking at the ball. Everything happening off the ball is the game to me. Others, like my wife, only see the ball... I have to freeze it a run it back to show her what happened off the ball when she asks how a play happened. Drives her crazy and wears the battries out on the remote. Thanks for the response.

Itís somewhat amazing to me, that at another halfway through Gonzagaís game against Creighton that theyíve played a total of 7 players with the 2 bench players shooting exactly 2 shots. Hereís supposedly one of the best teams in many years and they donít have enough of a bench to play more than 7 players in what has become a blowout. What Iím getting at is that you donít necessarily have to have a long bench to be a good team.

Looking at their stats, they have 7 guys playing over 10 minutes a game. I guess if you have great starters you donít need the depth, but during a long season with lots of blowouts, injuries etc youíd think theyíd have more than 7.
