Is Ohio @ Miami going to be rescheduled? Wondering why we have not heard anything. They're both open the week of Feb 22-25. Would hate to be deprived of beating up on the Redhawks (again).

Scheduling is starting to become an issue with Fiami. They've already had three MAC games postponed and have played only three MAC games this season, fewest in the conference. They'll have 17 games over the last seven weeks of the season. Besides our game, they still need to schedule games at CMU and WMU. They're playing three games this week, none of which appear to be make-ups from postponed games. And they're already scheduled to play Akron on March 5, with the tourney slated to begin March 10.

FYI, here are all the games that have been postponed so far and need to be rescheduled:
Ohio-Fiami, Ohio-NIU, NIU-Buffalo, Fiami-CMU, Fiami-WMU, WMU-EMU, WMU-BSU, EMU-Kent. Akron, BG, and Toledo have none.

Assuming that there should be at least two days between games:
Every affected team has 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, and 2/25 available.
Every affected team except Ohio and Buffalo have 1/28 available (Ohio and Buffalo play on 1/29).
Every affected team except NIU has 2/23 available.

I wonder if they are waiting until the week of to officially reschedule which games are made up in those slots you mentioned. At first I thought why not get it on the books, but I suppose it makes sense to wait and see what the full pool of games is before deciding which get played.

NIU is shut down and falling way behind on schedule. Looking more and more likely we won't get to makeup our games against either of these bottom dwellers. Which games get played and which don't will go a long way in determining the standings and tourney seedings.

I was pretty surprised to hear in the Ball State game thread that bars are even open in Athens.

Crazy how differently different parts of the country are approaching this. I don't know a single person in New York who has been inside of a bar since March of last year. Plenty of outdoor drinking, but to hear the bars in Athens have lines out the door is crazy.

This is the report I'm getting from my daughter, especially this semester with more underclassmen back on campus, meaning bars are packed with underage students. She isn't happy that this is likely to prevent her classes/labs/clinicals from returning to in-person and the real chance that her graduation will be virtual this spring.

Ohio is already making plans for a virtual graduation this year.

We discussed with our son that it's likely the university will close the residence halls sometime during the semester as they did last spring, and so he's taking classes from home this spring. Didn't want to go through the disruption again. There's a "wellness day" on March 3, which is right before what would've been spring break. We should know by then whether we get a rerun of last spring.

As for scheduling, it could get really messy for some teams over the next six weeks. Memphis had several postponements early on and just started a stretch of six games in 13 days. I don't know if the MAC will do that. They might be happy if each team gets in at least 16 games, but they haven't yet set a minimum to qualify for the MAC tourney as they did for the football championship.

The behavior is absolutely angering. I live in an apartment building on Court St and there are many parties going on in the building with approx 25 people crammed into 2 BR apartments. I was on Court St the other night and it was hordes of unmasked students roaming the streets, while the bars were totally packed with people shoulder to shoulder. Like Alan said, police not doing a damn thing to enforce the existing laws and mandates. I'm expecting an upsurge in Athens County cases as a result. Among undergrads, the selfishness and lack of concern is appalling. OU brought these people back with all their rules for dorms, and testing every two weeks, but no plan for the unhealthy behavior they would be unleashing on off campus apartments and the community as a whole.

Ball State just postponed their game with Kent scheduled on 1/26. I am a BSU fan & it is apparent that at least one member of the BSU men's team has covid. That player was not in Athens last weekend but I now suspect other members of the team are either positive or have been exposed. This in turn goes back to BSU's game of 1/16 with NIU in Muncie. Which was the last game NIU played before shutting down. I think odds are BSU may be shutting it down & soon. I think as late as it is in the season that if a team has to shut it down they should close down for the season. NIU playing 13 games in 30 days is not not going to occur.

I'm not uptown but I am working on campus. The attitude is bad (not all students but enough). There are clear rules in place in all buildings and we all have to battle each day with them to comply. It is not going to be good. I am very fearful for the rest of this term.

In related news, I'm getting my first shot of the Moderna vaccine tomorrow (Thursday) morning. After a few days that will get me to about the 80 percent protection level. Two weeks after the second shot (28 days later) and the level goes up to 97 percent. These are the numbers from the clinical trials, real world data may differ slightly. However, it's clear that these numbers are considerably better than those of the annual seasonal flu shots, because those are not targeted toward one virus, but are based on guesstimates of what strains will predominate in an upcoming season. The SARS-Cov-2 vaccines are much more targeted, and therefore more effective. Here's hoping everyone will soon be able to get one of the vaccines. I was told by a local health-care professional today that they expect to have the JNJ one-dose vaccine in Athens by early March. That'll make administration much easier. There is light at the end of tunnel. Chin up!
