Wow. Just wow. They aren't even remotely close to being the same situation.

It is laughable that you don't see the differences in the 2 situations.

You are obviously compromised in this situation, similar to the recruitment of Ben Wight. I'll slow things down so you can understand. They are actually similar situations. As I stated with Simmons, he had a good idea where the program was heading. Saul did not get an extension after year 3. Simmons and anyone else with a fully developed brain could see the significant dip in recruiting which would further take the program in the wrong direction. If you are a player in his position, do you stay with the sinking ship or do you take the opportunity with a program of the caliber of Michigan? Easy choice. Carter is doing pretty much the same thing. He's starting over with a well established program like Xavier and he'll be eligible right away.

I will also state the obvious: between Carter and Wight, you definitely have a type.

You have yet to find a single poster agree with your position while countless others have disputed it...yet I am "compromised" and not looking at things fairly because I like a particular player. Yes I've made it known repeatedly how good of a basketball player I think JC is, but comparing his situation with Simmons has nothing to do with that. The Wight situation I haven't even made strong claims about his game, I just know more about it because he is from my hometown, which you quickly attributed as the reason why I don't think a coach could or should yank a scholarship offer when in fact I have not nor never will endorse that regardless of the recruit involved.

Your last comment is so asinine and out of bounds that I don't even know where to begin, but if you'd been around longer than you have you would know my previous man crush was Tony Campbell and my all-time favorite/obsession is Brandon Hunter. SO yeah I guess I do like bigger guys that play good defense, position themselves well and can hit an outside shot. Thanks for noticing.

Watching this board devolve into "I hate you because you think something different from me about some dumb college sports thing" over the last couple of years has been awfully enjoyable to watch from a distance.

You're asking for the impossible. 40% of Div I players transfer by the end of their sophomore seasons.

I think you're overstating that Jeff. See below from and Indy Star article:

According to the NCAA, about 40 percent of Division I players leave their first school by end of sophomore year. Percentage of players transferring from one four-year school to another increased from 9.4 in 2003-04 to 13.8 in 2013-14, according to Sports Illustrated and the NCAA. That represents a 47 percent increase. The figure dipped slightly last year.

Not only that, but this post is essentially making the case that we're suddenly supposed to "hate" every good player that transfers away from the program. Why? At the time of the announcement, I was ticked off that Simmons left. But sheesh, did some of the posters on here decide to carry a grudge for a year or more about a kid leaving, while others acted as if they know personally what was better for the player's life than the student athlete himself.

None of us should be giving jc a going away party, nor should we hate him. We were his only offer and he was given the chance to level up and he took it. Bye jc, go Cats. I thank the better bobcats that stayed and grinded. Gary Trent, Brandon Hunter, Jerome Tillman, and Leon. Letís find our next great of and say goodbye to an above average PF.

One, Ohio was not his only offer. That's simply incorrect. He also held offers from Kent and Miami. http://verbalcommits.com/players/jason-carter-oh

Two, if I recall, he was a fairly early commit. Perhaps sometimes that affects the number of offers that some in this space seem to obsess over.

Three, he's more than merely above average. Above average MAC players don't leave Ohio for the Big East. He might have been the best 4 at Ohio in the last 10-15 years other than those guys you mention, along with Maurice.

Maurice was better and he had offers from other schools like butler had an offer from Wichita state. We were his only offer and he leaves as a third team all Mac performer, bon voyage. You can wash his car before he leaves, I am saying peace out, he bailed and I hope things work out for him.

Maurice would absolutely school Carter.. and good luck trying to move Reggie Keely out of the way. People like DeVaughn get forgotten.. but JC would struggle against him.

It's classic with you to say this "we were his only offer" stuff about players, yet trusted recruiting sites that make their lviing on this stuff say he had two others. I mean honestly, what the hell are you trying to prove? It's embarrassing for you, and one might even say "mediocre" of you to dispute facts on recruiting websites.

Excellent point on DeVaughn. I missed that one. No arguments with Maurice either. Keely, I would argue, was more of a 5 than four, but the point you're making about moving him in the post is a good one. Flip side, let's see Reggie guard Carter on the perimeter. To me, Carter was always in essence, a little bit better, and more consistent version of Ivo Baltic. Had some 3-man athleticism, with a little 4-man size. I'm not in to debating which players over time are better than others. I just don't get what I perceive as some belittling what he is and was as a player now that he's transferring.

No argument, I agree with your points. Keely wouldn't be able to guard Carter... if Keely could even find the 3 point line. I also agree with your point with Ivo. One could argue if Carter had been on that Sweet 16 team instead of Ivo, that team would have beat UNC and set the NCAA tournament ablaze. What could have been...

I hear it fluttering down, wait, wait, wait, I can't quite see it yet, but it feels like it may be the race card. Hope not, we are better than that. The difference has been well documented.

my take on Jaaron vs Jason transfers..

Jaaron was the star PG on a good team coming back. expectations were high his final season.

Jason transferred after two 14 win seasons.

i was sad for us happy for them both times and glad neither went to a MAC school.

For me, it also has to do with timing. Carter entered the portal and announced his intentions all before the end of March. Boals knows he wont be around and can plan on using his scholarship accordingly. Simmons dragged the process out until May (May 23rd according to this ESPN article http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/19... )

Saul may have known sooner, I don't claim to be any kind of insider.

Either way, best of luck to Jason in his future endeavors.

I think there can be a lot of different reasons people treat different situations differently. I'm open to all of them. Race could actually be a factor, but I wouldn't put it in the top reasons. Each person would need to be reflective and investigate their own motives.

I chalk it up to, as someone else alluded to, expectations for the program.

Simmons' transfer was one of those things where I had to investigate my own motives for being so angry about it. I ended up deciding it was because of my own personal hopes for watching a good basketball team. It hurt when he left because I was being selfish about what I wanted Ohio basketball to be. When you step back and realize this guy earned the right to go where he wanted to play and his personal happiness always trumps my desire to watch a 22-win basketball team, it cooled it down.

Honestly, Carter's transfer doesn't sting as much because this team isn't going to be any good the next year or so. He's like the veteran on a baseball team that probably needs traded because by the time the rest of the team is talented enough to compete, he'll be out of his prime. Or in this case he'll have graduated.
