Again the world will little note nor long remember this game a month from now. What matters is what we do in the next month.

Despite appearances, the stats show that we were only slightly out rebounded and had only a few more turnovers than SF. Shooting was God awful which is the story of the game. I don’t know if we couldn’t get the ball inside but it would have made sense to try harder to do so when it was obvious that outside shots weren’t falling in.

Loyola Marymount beat Georgetown so we get a shot at redemption in 2 days.

What concerns me is not how badly we shot from outside in this game but that I expect 3 point shooting to be a major concern until we get some shooters back on the floor. This was a giant thud of a game, but I don't think we write off the season already.

Not relating back to last year because we certainly had our share of ass whoopings, but all our coaches have had games like this. Hunter (including his best teams with Trent), OShea, Groce, and Christian. An early season humbling might be the best thing to happen to us.

From this morning's email (from Team Rankings)

Ohio Basketball
Predictions Update
Nov 17, 2018
• After losing to S Florida 73-46 yesterday, Ohio is now projected to finish the regular season 12-18 (6-12 MAC).
• The odds that the Bobcats make the NCAA tournament are down to 1%, a decrease of 4% since yesterday.
• We currently rank Ohio as the #228 team in the country, and the #12 team in the MAC.

It's depressing that this sober analysis looks pretty damn accurate.

This game should erase any doubt about the future. This hire has been a failure. And I say that as someone who's met him, likes him and respects him as a person. On a personal level, I don't relish seeing SP lose his job in March (maybe before that if this keeps up!). As a fan, a change is overdue.

This team:
*is young
*they will mature, grow and hopefully improve during the course of the season
*Carter will not normally be this bad with foul trouble hurting
*and we aren't going to shoot that poorly from the 3 point line

The verdict is still out on this team and after two games when people were all excited asking me what I thought about the prospects of this new team/new year my response was twofold:
1) I like "the hope" all the new faces give us. I liked SP didn't role out last years starters plus Carter (partially because injuries didn't allow him to) because we already knew that didn't work. New faces at least gave us some intrigue of "what might/could be."
2) My early season "total guess" was we'd be slightly above .500 and upper middle of the pack MAC finish.

I'm still not ready to accept the 12-18 projection, though it could very well be true. Because of the reasons I listed above, I'm going to wait this out and hope they grow and develop.
What hasn't changed however is my opinion on the direction of this program moving forward. Feel the same way today that I felt over a couple years ago and nothing has changed other than I hate that my worst of fears are coming full focus. And while my opinion back then was purely subjective, my guess is that season ticket sales, concession sales, parking sales, Bobcat gear sales, Bobcat Black seat sales, maybe even advertising sales (who knows on this one) have all felt the depression and provided an objective support to how this story ends. Continue to hope I'm wrong.

Dude, really, three games into the season and just the first loss and it already feels like "another lost season" to you??? Get a grip man. And already jumping ahead to doubts in March?? Its mid-November. I thought your premature comments on football were ridiculous but you just outdid yourself with this one. You're the ultimate pessimist, ready to make a mountain out of a mole hill the second a loss occurs. Do yourself a favor and start following Alabama in football and Duke in basketball because Ohio is never going to make you happy in ever.

Do yourself a favor ... and go play in traffic.

My conclusion was based on way more than what I saw Friday afternoon.

You get a grip.

Set down the green kool-aid.

Ohio isn't the best. It's cool. We're all going to be alright. God forbid we be critical.

You are an angry little BobKitty, aren't you.

That game was so terrible for the Bobcats, FearLeon probably still has a hard on 24 hours later.

TK is checked out. Not listening, not seeing, not playing. Not sure what his agenda is at this point but it has nothing to do with team or even performance. 3 offensive fouls tells me he thinks the world needs to get out of his way. Jawing and telling the officials what needs to be called as he sulks under the basket will only bring him bad things. Did he do any ball handling drills this summer? did he get any shots up? Looks like a wasted summer. Hope it improves. A good look in the mirror is what is needed. Humility lacking and a giant sense of self worth is a preliminary impression based on today's game.

Hopefully he is like Mike Laster. He didn’t improve from freshmen to sophomore year and really improved after that.

If you knew 10% of what you think you know in both football and basketball your posts might be worth reading. Sadly, that's not the case. But let the drivel continue. And as ALWAYS, you can (and will) get in the last word.

Contrary to popular belief, I take no joy in watching my alma mater get embarrassed on national television. I take no joy in the utter lack of recruiting and development of players. I will not list players names because most on this board are smart enough to figure out who those are on their own. Plus, I know how sensitive this board gets when we analyze and get critical of college basketball players. I take no joy in the fact that this program has fallen behind Miami in the MAC. Let that sink in.

Nope...I'm a diehard fan, who along with just a select few others on this board, saw this coming many, many months ago. We were bashed for our takes last season on how far this program has fallen. "Too many injuries...you have to trust Saul" they said. Too many on here have had the green kool-aid glasses on for too long during the Saul era. I'd love for Saul to figure it out and not look befuddled on the bench, but I'm a realist and I don't see it happening.

Open up your eyes. This goes well beyond injuries. The recruiting has been abysmal. Saul's recruiting philosophy looks like it's something straight out of the University of Wisconsin-Stevins Point manual. There is no energy in the Convo. The lack of interest in this program from its collective fanbase is astounding.

Sorry, no "hard on" here after every Bobcat loss. Just looking to the future and hoping the next coach can recruit scholarship players who can actually compete for MAC titles. #BleedGreen

Amen. I've been blasted too many times to count with people thinking I enjoy watching Ohio lose. So stupid.

God forbid we can be critical of something we're passionate about

I'll take both of your for your word on this, but it's worth asking or noting - how much of your posting is complaining/negative vs positive? I'm not really looking for a response - just a thought. I'll let you do your own analysis.

In the grand scheme of things you do not like to see Ohio lose, of course. But when you take as hard of a stance against an administration and a roster as you have with this one, I refuse to believe you don't love being proven right any chance you get. It is only human nature to want to be right.
