Yikes if every team gets a mulligan we already used our's in the 3rd game of the season. This isn't the same caliber South Florida team we beat in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. They were 10-22 last year. We made Coach Brian Gregory look like a genius. The same Brian Gregory that saw many of the Dayton faithful think they pulled a fast one on Georgia Tech when the the Rambling Wreck hired him away from the Flyers, never to make an NCAA appearance when he was at Georgia Tech. Let's hope this Bobcat performance was merely an aberration and this abomination at Montego Bay will never rear it's ugly head again!

Kirk just does not look like a point guard, especially in transition. Very unsure with the dribble, his weak hand looks very weak, and he keeps his head down when headed up court. DT disappeared for most of this game, Preston looks like a freshman that he is, and Cowart looks lost. Carter trying to do too much. Vander Plas looked allright, I guess. Wow, really struggling here.

TK is checked out. Not listening, not seeing, not playing. Not sure what his agenda is at this point but it has nothing to do with team or even performance. 3 offensive fouls tells me he thinks the world needs to get out of his way. Jawing and telling the officials what needs to be called as he sulks under the basket will only bring him bad things. Did he do any ball handling drills this summer? did he get any shots up? Looks like a wasted summer. Hope it improves. A good look in the mirror is what is needed. Humility lacking and a giant sense of self worth is a preliminary impression based on today's game.

TK's disengagement is even more apparent on defense. Practically standing straight up as his man blows right by him or leaving his man wide open off the ball for the pass and open 3.

USF is a lower tier AAC team. Objectively look at our roster and ask yourself how many of our players would see any PT for them? 1 maybe 2? We should be competing against teams like USF and ECU for recruits. Saul can recruit at the same level next year at UW Eau Clarie and not have to change his evaluation process. That being said, what offense are we running? The "stand around the perimeter and jack up 3's with no movement" offense?

Here we go again. SaulBall letting us down again. He found lightning in a bottle in lower D1. We need to call Boals immediately and hope he is not swallowed up by a bigger program. Heck, I would take head coach Stevie Taylor right now.

Stick a fork in SaulBall. I've seen enough. Ohio should not be drilled by nearly 30 by South Florida yet here we are.

I hope a guy like Cowart can make it but seems to me we get all these guys like Butler, Cowart or Culver who just never fit. Then we have the Dozier, Gareri and now Springs or McMurrays of the world who never pan out. Remember when Ethan Jacobs was our 12th man and then averaged 15 and 9?

At the very least, Saul does "befuddled" well. It looks like he has a career as a television Dad in a Sitcom once his career here at Ohio is all said and done.

I saw only about the last 12 minutes but it was clear that Ohio lacked a floor leader today. There wasn't anybody there taking charge of the offense. They were completely disjointed.

And Murrell isn't exactly lighting the world on fire. He nearly broke the backboard with one of his attempts today. Not sure what the recruiting philosophy was with this class. Seems like we could have used another big for this season, but damn, we sure do have a ton of guards. When Saul recruited Springs he had to know that he would be redshirting his freshman year. But here we are with zero depth in the paint. #LetThatSinkIn

Absolutely nothing positive from that

Ohio in midseason form allowing that 26-3 run in the 1H

And things never got better.

This feels like another lost season ... and we're three games in.

Let's hope they find a way to put it together before March. Doubtful, though.

Sad fact is Saul hire was just a miss.

Ohio doesn't have many of those last 20yrs.

Knorr?

Even o'shea took Ohio to tournament.

Christian was good coach ... just left for better opportunity. He was on way to building a winner here

Just don't see anything to give me hope for the future with Saul or this team.

Brutal.

Dude, really, three games into the season and just the first loss and it already feels like "another lost season" to you??? Get a grip man. And already jumping ahead to doubts in March?? Its mid-November. I thought your premature comments on football were ridiculous but you just outdid yourself with this one. You're the ultimate pessimist, ready to make a mountain out of a mole hill the second a loss occurs. Do yourself a favor and start following Alabama in football and Duke in basketball because Ohio is never going to make you happy in ever.

I missed the game but sounds like we didn’t measure up. Good way to expose our weakness and prepare for the next game.

Again the world will little note nor long remember this game a month from now. What matters is what we do in the next month.

Despite appearances, the stats show that we were only slightly out rebounded and had only a few more turnovers than SF. Shooting was God awful which is the story of the game. I don’t know if we couldn’t get the ball inside but it would have made sense to try harder to do so when it was obvious that outside shots weren’t falling in.

Loyola Marymount beat Georgetown so we get a shot at redemption in 2 days.

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that it feels like another lost season- because it does. Saul is working without an extension. Whether you are pro or con Saul, that is bad. Bad for recruiting and bad for the current team. This is a year long lame duck deal.

The game yesterday gave me the same thoughts as Bshot (I admit I agree with him also on Football, so my bias is clear) and between the listless play, the awful game plan, and the lack of pure outside shooting its going to be a long year. Can it change starting Sunday? Sure! I hope it does- but given all the factors I don't see it.

A few random notes-

Why was Carter in the game with 5 min left and down 28? The floor had moisture and game way out of hand.... why risk your best player who has a history of leg injuries in a meaningless spot?

The question about "pounding the ball inside more" well aside from Carter, who is going to do that? Ohio tried a little, but the D didn't allow it- the USF D did give up tons of open 3 looks which as you all know were missed at an incredible rate.

The Kirk tech was a terrible call. He reacted like anyone would- his head was almost blown off. In real time it is the natural reaction. In slo mo he looks like he's faking it. That call is way too subjective to make. In a 30 point loss no big deal, but what if it was a close game?

BVP looks like he can grow in to a nice player. I think Preston can too. McMurray looks so awkward to me, but I like his passing skills. Murrell is the 2018-19 version of EDoz at this point. His miss yesterday was cringeworthy.

So on to Sunday...

Wasn't a great performance by the Bobcats, but losing big in November is better than getting drilled in early March. Basketball is a long season and give this team some time before you bury them six feet under. With all teams having a chance in the conference tournament, win three games in mid March and you are dancing.

Other then the point loss margin I was not surprised with this outcome. We have a young team with many new faces to blend into the program. In addition there are a number of players who, due to injury last year, are working their way back into basketball shape. Some of these injured players still have yet to return to the line up.
I am prepared for more losses than wins during this OOC schedule.
If I do not see improvement by the opening of the conference season then the season will be a disappointment.

I've been saying it since I saw him in his first game. He's not a point guard. He gets a double-double every single game, points and wide open players who don't get the pass from him. He's got severe tunnel vision on the basket and he can't touch the ball without dribbling. And he's not going to change and that's Saul's fault. Saul's inability to impose his will on his players is going to get him fired (or not renewed if you want to be technical). In three of his first four seasons he had a player decide he wasn't going to run the offense and it appears it's going to be four out of five. If Kirk is your starting 3 with a good PG you could be a very good team. If he's your 1 you are going to lose and lose a lot especially if you've recruited an entire roster that would thrive on ball movement.

From this morning's email (from Team Rankings)

Ohio Basketball
Predictions Update
Nov 17, 2018
• After losing to S Florida 73-46 yesterday, Ohio is now projected to finish the regular season 12-18 (6-12 MAC).
• The odds that the Bobcats make the NCAA tournament are down to 1%, a decrease of 4% since yesterday.
• We currently rank Ohio as the #228 team in the country, and the #12 team in the MAC.

----------------------------------

But I swore not to revisit the subject of "recruiting" until next season.

True to my word, I won't discuss it. For now.

I will stick to my theory that solid d-1 mid-major players like Carter and Kirk are not "beasts" or "studs" or other hyperbole used to categorize them.
Naz Reid and Simi Shittu and Zion Williamson and Grant Williams are the "beasts and studs" of college basketball.

I did a quick and dirty scan of schedules and I think I found the answer to your query about 20-point losses. I think this makes 10. It's bad, but actually less than I thought.

It's depressing that this sober analysis looks pretty damn accurate.

This game should erase any doubt about the future. This hire has been a failure. And I say that as someone who's met him, likes him and respects him as a person. On a personal level, I don't relish seeing SP lose his job in March (maybe before that if this keeps up!). As a fan, a change is overdue.
