This ain't hard to figure out. No practice facility +3 teams +dance team +cheerleaders +additional usage by teams on rain days=packed schedule. And oh yeah, forgot about volleyball currently.

Not having a practice gym hurts this program far worse than people can imagine. Hate to say this, but this should have been priority #1 and #2 versus building the academic center and weight room upgrades and wait on the next trend in that aspect. I get I will get shot down in flames for the academic center quote, but right now not having a place for all of our teams to practice creates significant problems.

South Green outdoor courts are glorious in January. Jes saying.

One of the courts is now used for skateboarding. Not as much flexibility as there used to be. ;)

It's fascinating to me that this continues to be an issue. When they built the fieldhouse, the way it was done was a big, big missed opportunity in my opinion. Not only could it have served Ohio Football as it does now, but it could have included facilities for basketball/volleyball/wrestling practices, and could have been built immediately up against the student section side of Peden to allow for restroom and concession modernization. Seems like it all could have been done in one single project.

Now, I'm the first to admit that I'm 100% clueless about how difficult funding such a project would have been as compared to what's already been done. But it sure seems like money could have been invested more efficiently for the space that's there. Yeah, it would have been more expensive overall, but sure seems like it could have been more cost effective as a whole.

You seem to be forgetting that the Field House does not belong to Athletics and is managed and run by Rec and Sports Sciences. Not to mention, the basketball, wrestling, volleyball programs all want a gym attached to the Convo and NOT Peden Stadium. Those coaches biggest complaints right now are they have to walk across the street to the weight room.

I didn't forget it - I'm merely pointing out that the way things seem to be done "around here" isn't efficient when it comes to building things to suit multiple functions in a single building project. The same line of thinking could potentially be used for the upgrades around baseball and softball facilities.

Also, I'd think walking across the street is better than not having the facility at all. Maybe they should build a tunnel from Peden to The Convo instead? (joke).

If I remember correctly,O.U. had to "beg, borrow and steal",just to get enough donations to build the IPF the way they did.
That's one of the reasons they had to put in a "practice tack" instead of a 400 meter oval.

I don't understand what the big deal is about having the practice facility attached to the Convo.

I know a number of colleges whose practice facilities a aren't "attached" to their arena.

If you're going to build a practice facility,do it right.Design the project to function as an independent facility. Its own locker rooms, weight room(s) etc.

Then the Convo could be used for limited practices,so the teams are familiar with the court and games.

To be honest, one of my suggestions would have been to move over to the fairgrounds and execute said strategy.

Ping is used for basketball practices under certain circumstances.

You remember correctly. Plus they needed student fees that's why student services not ICA manages it. I understand it is heavily used by multiple groups. it was the lack of contributions which caused the change.

Isn't there a court in Grover? Maybe not ideal but if they ever get in a pinch...

There is, or at least there was. I remember the team practicing there sometimes back when I was at OU in the early 2000s.

Grover gym was removed during recent renovation project. My kids used to do soccer training there, and it was my last connection to the old GroverBall pickup basketball days. Still miss waiting for the hungover student to unlock the side doors on Sundays at noon and walking with dozens straight to free throw line to shoot for teams.

I think we should tear down the Convo and replace it with a 8,000 seat arena with several practice courts attached. And make sure it is brick with white trim and no ugly out of place dome roof that looks awkward at best.

Unfortunately, the university and its alums/donors/fans can barely afford to keep what we have up to date.

So, we'll have to get used to trying to win with mediocre facilities.

Noticed that Jaylin was sitting on the end of the bench last night in street clothes.

Yes, I did see him on the bench. It appears he still supports his teammates.
