So Ryan Taylor is pulling a Jaaron. Evansville rescues him from what we can surmise was an awful experience at OU only to elevate him and watch him probably go to Iowa or a Big 10 team. Way to go Taylor. Glad you left.

Well Evansville did just fire Ryan Taylor's head coach... So, this seems a litte different. But, damn, this really hurts the mid-majors who find and grow talent....

Not just find and grow but save. Taylor didn't like his first stop and I feel like Evansville was there for him. Jaaron didn't like Houston and his coach was fired so we were there for him. I saw Tariq Owens -- same thing. I'd rather have guys who truly love the Bobcats. That's why I wish we would have gotten Evan Bradds. Dude committed himself to Belmont and would have done the same for us.

I can't blame these kids when their coach was fired. Let me put it this way, if your boss who recruited for a job decided to leave 4-5 months later or got fired what would you do? Would you stick it out if you knew the place was going into the dumps? Just curious what your guys' thoughts are on this.

Yeah, if the coach gets fired, or leaves on his own - I have no problem with him choosing to leave. I can say this - where I am now, if my boss left, or was fired, I'd strongly consider working elsewhere. I'd also wait it out a little bit to really evaluate the situation. If I were the players, I would hope they would take a little time to think it through before choosing. But, I'm in agreement with the assessment on Taylor - he'll probably be able to go to a P6 team, so if that's important, I can't blame him in this situation.

All of this begs the following question I have: Why don't we see rampant transferring in football? Is it because so many players redshirt as it is?

I would say that's a pretty safe assumption. They don't want to lose another year.

Can't say this is surprising. Just never felt like he fit what we were trying to do here. Super athletic kid and a good person from what I gathered. I hope he finds his niche.

Hope he does well and finds his game and some time on the floor.

Ok, Saul, time to grab that late-signing period impact player!

We need an athletic guard/wing that can defend and shoot that will be able to play next year.

I agree, a wing guard seems like the missing piece. Might I suggest...

http://gmcsports.com/bkPlayerStats.aspx?player=449006

This kid played alongside Darius Bazley and in many games, looked like the better player. He does not have a single D1 offer, and I know that will turn off some people here, but there are people all over twitter screaming that he deserves to play at this level, and I agree.

Come on Saul, Darweshi Hunter to Ohio!

Like to see a big.

My hope for next year is that Carter and Taylor can play significant minutes together. After watching how Saul rarely had Taylor and Mickle on the floor at the same time this past season, I have some doubt that Carter and Taylor will be paired up much next year. I realize the frontline depth could be different next year without adding a big, but that doesn't 100% allay my concerns.

I also think we should lean guard/wing. I feel like that is where the depth is needed, or will be needed after next year when Dartis and Block graduate.

Maybe we can get Ryan Taylor back.
Anyway, we need healthy players so maybe we can fill one of our needs.

Good luck to Ellis, seemed like a fun loving dude and a good teammate. Additionally, he had one of the best in-game dunks over the last (2) seasons in garbage time last year.

With that being said, Saul is on the clock from my vantage point. There are fortune changing players available right now. If Saul can find another immediate injection player like Kirk, it sends a message to this fan base and to the league. This scholarship has got to be used in an impactful fashion with a focus on immediate eligibility.

How about Brady Ellingson from Iowa? Just granted release for grad transfer. He is a 6-4 guard. 10 mins per game for Iowa? Would that be impact enough?

Wishing Dozier the best in whatever he does. Sad he got minimal time on the court. At least he will leave OU with a degree.

I can see both sides of the argument here.

Getting an athletic wing to basically replace what Mike Laster brought to the table and also for the future when Jordy and Gavin will be gone. I think the staff is hoping Butler polishes his skills at PG so he and TK can be a 1-2 interchangable combo, which means the need for an athletic wing won't be as glaring next year. Gollon is a solid contributor to have, but they might need one more guy.

And getting another big might be something the team desperately needs. DT and Jason are solid pieces to build around, but who's left after that? A lot of unproven commodities. BVP and Murrell seem to have the body type for the stretch 4s, but they aren't so big they can bang inside. McMurray, Gareri and Springs aren't there yet physically.

I agree with everyone though...whomever it is, it's gotta be someone who can play right away.

While I don't think there's "big pressure" to get this one recruit right, I'm in agreement with those who say whomever they recruit, he needs to be able to contribute from the start. I'd be good with a Mickle type recruit, but ideally a game changer in the way Kirk did as a late signing.

I think the most important thing is probably that wing spot - mostly from the defensive standpoint. Having a guy that can interchangeably guard the 2,3,4 spots for the opponent would be very useful to throw into the current roster. Also agree with GoCats that it's possible that Mr. Butler could be that guy (to an extent) given a summer of work.

I can also see the approach of a big given that there are several unproven entities on the roster or coming in. Either a big, or a wing would make the team better and deeper.

EDIT - I'm also in the camp of a transfer that can play right away. Maybe a JUCO that can fit into the junior class?

If they are both healthy, I see both of them starting and spending lots of time on the floor together. If not, we are in trouble.

Let's bank the scholarship for next year so that we can balance out the recruiting classes. Just kidding, let's get Christian Guess.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Three point specialist from the looks of it. Was recruited out of high school by some comparable/better programs.

Good looking, quick stroke. Not sure we need another guy like that just for a year. May need a little more athleticism, but you can never have too many good shooters. Kind of reminds me of the Brian Walsh kid who was at Xavier and transferred to Akron.
