If these get any more competitive, programs are going to start getting ringers. 6-10 guys with gigantic wingspans who play overseas in the summer doing the laundry.

It'll be like the tactics small-town slow-pitch softball teams about 30 years ago used to procure comically-oversized plastic and faux-wood trophies. Suddenly the corner pizzeria had a 6-foot-7 guy who could crank 460-foot home runs. "Oh yeah, he's our dough-procuring guy. He's on the road most of the time. That's why you've never seen him in the shop."

I read archives on a weekly basis. People 100 years ago absorbed newspapers reporting nothing more than which members of their communities visited towns 10 miles away by car. And what they ate for lunch. And the names of everyone who sat at the dinner table. And each diner's profession. It was fascinating esoterica to someone at the time. And as an historical note, it's more true to life than any history book or film or novel from its era. It's what life actually was.

Chris Duhon played for Marshall http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/2377/chris-duhon He is currently an asst coach for the Terd. I think Assts, GAs and mgrs can play in these.DMac seems to get a shour our every game for is history and contributions in this fun and mildly spirited competition. Good points Brian. WOuld be tough at tO$U playing Student Assistand Greg Oden and Paulus on their mgr team. It s all in good fun....and you are right, with more sources of info we are in control of what we find compelling.

If you only had those listed officially as mgrs. you would have the home team vs 3 or 4 on the visiting squad. What started as a friendly night before game years ago has become a friendly competition amnngst visiting teams. And there are people interested. Not many... but for those interested I thought it would be nice to put up and have the link. Your comments are welcome but you are sure showing an ugly side by denigrating the folks who would really like the info. An example of why, over the years, I have been told by quite a few folk they stopped coming on here. If you don't find it be to your liking just ignore the thread. Seriously There are folks who enjoy watching.

You realize that just because it might be recorded on a cell phone you don't have to watch it on a cell phone, right? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that in this day and age EVERYONE on BA has watched something less entertaining online than snippets of a managers pick-up game.

Cat/dog/baby/storm videos anyone? I guess it's just a matter of preference?

I sense this is an event that Charlie Harper could and would be able to bet on.....

But in all seriousness, stuck around after work one night to watch one of these games and don't kid yourself, you can tell a huge difference between who actually plays and who is there for the view. Good win by our managers last night against West Virginia Junior University.....I mean Marshall.

I can say, without any doubt in my mind, that I have never "watched something less entertaining online than snippets of a managers pick-up game."

Maybe something on over-the-air television, like a PGA event.

I'll admit, the idea of watching one of these things is not appealing to me in the least, but of course taste is often subjective. I was seriously trying to ask the question without sounding sarcastic or aloof, but I can see how it might have come across.

That said, I think "ugly side" and "denigrating" is a bit of an overreaction to perceived message board sarcasm.

I, in all seriousness, can say I would. As long as it's a competitive game and each side is taking it seriously I'll watch just about any basketball game. Have to have some kind of rooting interest in it though. I wouldn't watch a Coastal Carolina vs Tufts manager game but the Ohio manager's game I would.

Well said. We really need the Smiley sarcasm faces back...

It did not come across as an honest sarcastic response, it seemed genuinely disparaging....(I say this after watching a Big Bang rerun dealing with Sheldon's failure to see sarcasm last night)... This, along with some other responses in other threads, and being someone who hears a ball bouncing 2 miles away and goes in to enjoy and watch a 3rd grade game I would prefer folks not run stuff down or use sarcasm which may chase those folks who enjoy that sort of thing away. We have a growing interest in an expanding fanbase that should feel ok coming here and discussing their views on hoops. There are a growing number of folks I hand the URL on a sheet of paper and encourage to come here... That was the reason behind the response.

We do need the emoji's back in some cases.

As a person who is genuinely evaluating whether it's worth being involved in a couple of the forums that I participate it on for other interests, I can really appreciate this point of view. The groups I'm debating on simply casting aside are more full of negativity than positive energy to the point that they aren't enjoyable to be associated with. There's enough negativity in the news and daily life, that I don't need more. Sad thing is, it's two groups I sought out. One because of a new interest to learn, and the other being a long time fan of a team where I sought out a new group.

I'm not saying that this board is that way, but I surely don't want it to become that. As a general rule, I think this board is about as good as I've seen in terms of forums and other social media discussion groups.

That is fascinating. I've know they've played these games for years. I had no clue it was so organized. I always assumed it was a pride thing for the group during the conference season.
