He needs to be able play the 3 or a quick 4 that can rebound, like Faried and Milsap. Unless he can pull off a Zach Randolph or Al Jefferson.

Tony Campbell being Kenneth Faried or Paul Millsap is not happening. Have we been watching the same guy?

Campbell absolutely has a shot at an NBA career, but it's as a guy like Marreese Speights. Same height and build, similar athleticism, but I think Tony is probably a better shooter and passer than Speights. Speights isn't an all-star but he's in the rotation on a 73 win team.

But I do agree with Jefferson and Randolph a bit. Both of those guys show that if you have enough skill you can be a below the rim big man and still succeed in the Association.

Speights is about 3 inches taller Campbell, but if the scouts can accept that, than good for him. If I were him, I would continue to refine my game at the college level.

These are quite accurate views.

And, doesn't Speights feature a pretty quick release on his shot, some talent on the perimeter in setting screens and moving/rolling to open spots after setting screens, plus talent/movement in team defense around the floor?

AC can bring these Speights-like talents but he isn't asked much to show them at OHIO. At OHIO, he plays mostly inside as compared to Speights playing more on the outside.

SBH--which is more tiring: your potshots, your constant
vapidity, or your repetitiveness. Answer: all three.
Can't we just leave it that you don't like me and I have no respect for you?Leave it at that, stop sniping at each other (which you're pretty much starting up these days) so that we're not bothering others here?!

Neil, if you're promising not to bother others on this site, I assume this was your last post?

Tony is no shorter than 6'8'' in shoes. At 245+, that's not undersized depending on scheme. Ben Wallace and Draymond Green being effective playing the five prove that.

If Tony can replace some flab with muscle and develop a mid-range, he will have a great shot.

Let em go....if they want to come back and get their degree fine...

I think it would be better for all parties if they followed a similar path as hockey. Players are drafted at 18. The number of players going directly to the NHL is probably similar, only slightly higher than going to the NBA at 18. After being drafted they retain amateur status until they sign a contract. The drafting team keeps the draftee's rights for 2 years unless they go the NCAA route to which they retain rights until 30 days after their college playing time is finished.

It is not unusual for hockey players to play 1-2 years of juniors hockey after being drafted prior to starting college. Plus there are many different paths they can take in their development. Although there are many more options, more and more hockey players are choosing the NCAA route. Colleges receive athletes that are more mature and more marketable as they have already been drafted by the NHL.

This is a plus for the player as there is more security of already being through the draft process at an earlier age than their basketball counterparts plus more options on their path. They can go directly to the professional level, or junior level or college or even Euro leagues.

The NHL teams are not spending as much time developing their players. There are less development projects than you see in the NBA.

I like it conceptually, but I don't think there is a market for minor leagues like there is for baseball. Baseball is a game that is enjoyed live by it's fans for just being baseball. Football & Basketball is more tied up in the players, national hype, etc. and therefore a league of 2nd-rate professionals would struggle to gain any kind of following. Plus the elite players would still go straight to the NFL instead of spend some time developing like is customary in baseball, so the league would mostly be filled by players who will be nothing but fringe NFL players.

The NBA does have a minor league system. It's called the NBDL.

Some NBA teams share an NBDL team and only have 4-5 guys from the team in their actual roster so it isn't quite the same. But the plan is for every NBA team to have an exclusive NBDl and the trend is heading that way.

As for the NFL, teams don't want a minor league team because they don't want to risk their guys getting hurt.

As long as he doesn't hire an agent, he can turn right around and play another year in college... get in better shape, etc...

There is no way he will get drafted. If the power forward at Baylor is opting for pro football instead of basketball, Campbell needs to come back and play one more year and push his stock up.

Plus, why would they change? They have what is essentially a free minor league system in college football.

Honestly, with his hands, that might be a good option for Tony to consider too. Tight End is becoming a sought after position too.

In the end, I hope he gets great feedback, improves his game even more, returns for next season, graduates, and then gets drafted in the NBA first round next year.

Or, with his arm, maybe QB? Someone in the NFL would take a shot on a 6-10/260 QB.

Isn't the rule called 5 to play 4 or something like that???

TE/QB... Sounds like Frank Solich should bring in Tony Campbell in fall of 2017 to run the wildcat!

I've seen crazier things happen.

Tony should return for his senior year and improve his game to the same degree he did during his junior year. In addition, he would then graduate and have that all important degree to fall back on if future BB is not in his future.
There is both a long range ans short term thinking that needs to be well thought through.

The NBA, a league in which a small number of big men of superior/unbelievable talent play underneath along with a team full of other guys who all better be quite adept at making your 3-point shots.

He's back, thankfully.

http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/05111...

I think he'll do big things this year and possibly propel himself into a draft pick. I think his biggest weakness is lateral quickness, but hopefully he works on whatever the NBA scouts told him.

Tony, thank you for returning to Athens and wearing the green and white for one more year. While there is no doubt in the future you will be earning a paycheck to play the game you love, I look forward to following your senior year as you and the team continue to improve and achieve success on and off the court.

I'm glad Tony didn't tell us to step off.

I made tuna and salmon sandwiches for our celebratory rock climbing party, because I know Tony doesn't like peanut butter.
