Two things I don't like about this schedule:

1. No big road trips early in the season. No tourneys or classics. No time for the team to bond on a big trip.

2. No trips to alumni-heavy locales. Missed opportunity to grow the alumni fan base in other areas.

Agree. Tourneys are great opportunities because you get to play strong teams on neutral courts on occasion. And teams can get noticed early in the season e.g. Ohio won the Pre-NIT, the Syracuse Invite (�Cuse first loss in that tourney) and the Rainbow Classic come to mind. Let�s do it every year if it can be worked out.

Yep. That�s places like Florida and Chicago where many opportunities reside. I like the regional games with Clev. St., Marshall and WKU for home-home games. This should be a constant. Instead of Samuel Houston, Southern, Urbana, how about Duquesne, Butler, Belmont, Wright St., etc. And let�s play 1 or 2 biggies on their home court when we have strong teams like now, not just for a money game but for the big upset or at least the experience. OSWho?, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan? Only way to beat them is to play them.

And Bryant? Love it! TOS to OHIO!

I think if it were being played on a Saturday, you'd see a nice contingent wearing green in your arena. With it being on a weeknight, I'm not so sure.

Couple thoughts here:

-Agree on the Wright State thoughts. They would be a good team, in my opinion, to have a home and home with consistently. Also agree on Duquesne the same way.

-Also agree that, selectively, it would be nice to have another bigger conference opponent in the schedule every year.

-I'm pretty confident in saying that I don't think Ohio Athletics schedules to accommodate potential alumni area's when looking for a strong basketball or football schedule. I think they're more worried about getting solid schedules.

-Tourney's and Classics only have so many openings. They're also probably expensive to travel to. Given that the last two years we've played in them, maybe that's a factor?

-Lastly, we all have to remember that it takes two teams to schedule. What Ohio Basketball wants, isn't necessarily what Wright State or Butler want regarding their schedule. AND, it's key to recognize that many schools want a lot of home games, making it even more difficult.

We have fun with TOS, but he won a MAC Tourney and took us to the dance. He accomplished more than Christian ever did. And yes, I'll take an NCAA Tournament appearance over any MAC regular season championship. #EveryDayOfTheWeek

midweek game with a 6 hour drive each way that's 4 days before Christmas... doubt there will be many Bobcats in attendance.

There is no priority by the athletic department to pull together a strong football schedule. The priority is 6 home games and away games nearby that fans can travel to. Virginia, Boston College, Pittsburgh are all weak roadies for a money game. The goal is more to maximize the record, rack up bowl games ect.

This mindset is very short-sighted. Growing the fanbase has obvious long-term benefits for the program. These considerations should not be ignored.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I don't disagree with you at all. I just don't think this is something that is being done when scheduling. I have no real insight here, it's just my gut feeling If it were, we'd be playing more games against the likes of Wright State, Duquesne, Robert Morris, and certain east coast schools where there is alumni concentration. The thing of it is, short of the MAC Tournament, how many alumni would truly come out if OU were playing in their area? I just don't think that a large number of our alumni would take time out of their week on a Wednesday night if Ohio were playing within an hour of their city. On a Saturday, yeah, you'd get more, but the reality is we have a ton who just don't care about Ohio sports. If they did, we could play Wright state and have half the arena be Bobcats.

Anyone care to guess how TOS will be received in the Convo? Cheers? A few boos? Students having no clue who he is?? I tend to think there will be some scattered cheers but nothing tremendous.

There had certainly better be someone who comes up with a "That's life on the road" sign within the Ozone. I'll cheer him. He (and his team) gave me two weeks in March of great memories.

The students have no idea what the heck any of those memes mean. TOS is just another opponent's coach.

Eighty percent of the current students probably don't know John Groce coached here.

I think it's generally accepted around here that Tim O'Shea is a good man and a solid basketball coach.

I'm trying to imagine myself as a student getting worked up over a visiting coach that used to coach at Ohio when I was in elementary school.
