I really am surprised at how often "sweet 16" is thrown around on here by people. It makes me think that these people don't really follow college basketball, don't understand college basketball (especially the NCAA tournament), and don't appreciate how just how magical was OUr run to get there. The idea that you can just throw some talented MAC players together and "voila - sweet 16!" Is just plain ignorant IMHO. I mean, really?

Yes. That's why it's Sweet. A lot of MAC teams have been just one player away.

Well, that doesn't seem so difficult, I really look forward to seeing one, or two, or three MAC teams in the Sweet 16! Seeeeeeweeeeeeet, just gotta find that one player and we're there!

When I see one BG player and 3 Ohio players (with better position on top of being a 3:1 ratio) in position for a rebound, and the BG player ends up with the ball and the basket, I have to believe there is some lack of effort/mindset/priority on part of the Bobcats.

Perhaps I'm lacking in that much-talked-about (and much self-proclaimed) BBIQ, but I believe two teams don't always bring the same effort and there's been many examples this year of our players not matching the opponent's effort.

This is true. I mentioned before I don't think the players have given up or aren't trying, but I do think they've lost their will. This is not a group that believes its going to win when they step on the floor. They're looking for motivation rather than creating it. Those teams regularly get beat on the hustle plays, which often has the fun effect of exacerbating the source problem.

Now, combine that with lack of experience and/or talent and you end up with a bottom-of-the-MAC team.

I saw that play with ST on the baseline and 2 bigs in the paint with a BG guy in the paint on the near side and one on the baseline. The BG guard coming up the far side of the key from the elbow knifed through and took the ball away for a put back bucket. I don't have a replay (except the one in my mind) and I am sure there were bodies on bodies there blocking out (maybe) but it was odd that the kid got the ball and got to the rim with not much challenge. I think you have BBIQ if you saw the same thing. YOu obviously know that should not be the case.

I think there is a severe lack of players executing things and not understanding angles and basics like boxing out along with lack of motivated, hustling play. Together that is a recipe for the failures we have seen. That is gonna happen whether you are on a college floor or up at the Y. SOme guys just do not get in there and get a rebound or block out or challenge or dive for a ball ...never gonna happen whether it is the Y or the NCAA tournament.

I think from the videos and attitudes I see rolling around the recruiting thread, the incoming class will lift all boats of those who are still here next May and going into November.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

That probably would have gotten us a double bye...plus Lew wouldn't need to shoot as many threes if the Big O was here.
