I had to miss it, so I'm hoping it's archived in it's entirety.

Agree with OU_Country. Want to listen to this one in it's entirety. Love Lou's participation in the Rivalry video and his cameo as Santa a few years back. Big fan of #GetAgitated.

He revealed on the program that he can't stand those NBA wannabe PA announcers...I couldn't agree more with him.

Did he take a stand on stand for defense? In favor or opposed?

On that topic, what does everyone think of the stand for defense?

Sometimes I'd really like to see the AD do something to either make it more significant, like stand until a field goal is made, or ditch the idea altogether.

Other times, I'd rather see everyone stand until Ohio scores a bucket instead.

Ditch the whole idea. I've said it before but it does nothing but motivate the other team to score. If I'm a Bobcat opponent, "I can't wait to make a basketball to make all the folks sit down."

Akron stands till they make a basket. Either way, it really doesn't work unless everyone stands and fewer and fewer are standing in the Convo. An idea whose time has come and gone.

I can't tell you how much I loathe the stand for defense. It's awkward, annoying, non-emotional, and just seems way too forced. The crowd will stand when something great happens. You're basically telling fans to stand from fight song, the national anthem, through starting lineups and then you're in it for the long haul until the opposing team scores. It only makes sense if Ohio goes up something like 15-0 or 20-0, which never happens. Can the idea.

I keep reading how many on here have high BBIQ. If true, I don't believe Bobcat fans need to be told when to stand, "get loud" or in any way how to be a true fan.
Over the years of asking fans to "stand for defense" I've been joined in the Convo with college basketball fans who aren't necessarily Ohio Bobcat fans. Not one did not think "stand for defense" wasn't a little bit strange (how's that for a triple-negative?).

Michael who?

It was a fantastic listen Monday. I'll look for the archive for another shot at it as well.

Edit. And a bit of interesting Q&A with Russ/Saul as well. Not the typical softball questions one would expect.

He may read it, but that doesn't mean he agrees with us or considers our opinions representative of the Bobcat Nation.

Or maybe the AD will know that certain people are seemingly just looking for the next thing to rally for/against.

For the record I'm indifferent, and wonder why it's such a big deal either way to folks.

This has slowly and quietly become one of my favorite talking points on the board.

We've tried rallying for things - like the Carolyn Mast jersey - but those too fall on deaf ears. When I said ad, I meant the department. They quickly changed duel to dual after the postings on this board. As for representative of the fans, all they need to do is look around and see how many people are sitting and they can see it's time to give up the stand for d. The only reason many people stand is because they have to stand to see what's going on because a few folks in front of them are standing.

Next year it will be "stand for defense and free fish tacos" (and pull in some sponsor), or "stand for defense and keep your Bobcat Club seat or pay an extra donation penalty" or some such ludicrity......all while some geezer whale donor who never comes to most games behind you bitches because you're standing........

It was forced from Day 1 if I recall. Wasn't it something Groce wanted out of nowhere one game? I remember the pre-Lou PA announcer (forget his name now) having to plug it a TON for anyone to get it for the remainder of that first season they did it (it was a midseason addition, pretty sure)

The only thing dumber was doing the freeze on 18:04 thing in the O Zone any time beyond the one time for someone's class project.

I have no problem with built in things like that, but something a little more creative/comes off as less forced could be a good idea. Creativity has never been a strong suit of ours, though.

I'd like to see the ath dept completely revamp the last half hour before tip off. Currently, it's gotten a little stale and I think changes would be good going into next year...

I don't remember Groce asking for that. I thought that came from Wichita St. That would be interesting coming from JG but seems pretty oblique and counter to his personality. Surely nothing that comes from Taylor or any of his previous stops at Butler, X, tO$U or even Danville HS . Have to ask him that history.

IIRC it started in 2009 and has been opposed every year. Yet it persists.

What very well could have happened was they asked him to get behind it and push it some. I just seem to remember a definite involvement of him with it. But I am pretty sure it came out of nowhere mid-season when it started.

Even some of the in-game/media timeout items could stand a little tweaking too. I think anyone who has seen more than 3 games in the past 10 or so years could recite to you the exact flow of a game from 60 minutes before until you leave with little effort.
