Got a win. Lots of gaffes. Lots of first impressions watching live. Interesting night. Feels good.

Ride is a lot easier when you win. Done the opposite trip a hundred times. They will smile all the way. Home. Good to see the guys. Good to catch up with staff, Russ and all. Happy for the win.

GO Bobcats!

The gaffes are important to note because hot shooting covered up for some deficiencies. I wish I'd have been able to watch in order to really comment on defensive miscues or the like. One thing the stat sheet shows, is that Ball State did a fine job of hitting the offensive glass. Seems to me that's another area besides D that needs a bit of help.

Hope this win can be a spring board for bigger and better things. A win can work wonders for a team's confidence.

Actually, defensive rebounding is one of the few areas Ohio generally has been pretty good, ranking 83rd in the country in defensive rebounding percentage. Ohio is pretty terrible (309th) at getting offensive rebounds, though.

Listening to the BSU announcers at the beginning of the game you would have sworn that they were regular posters to BobcatAttack.

They pointed out repeatedly: horrid play caused by stupid to's(I think we had 5 within the first 3 mins of play), no flow to the offense, indifferent defense, skinny kids that need more time in the weight room, dumb fouls, nothing out of Tony, how poorly our shooting percertanges coming in were, etc, etc.

They obviously had to change their tunes as we shot them out of the gym, but it was amusing at first cause it appeared their scouting report on us wasn't to watch any film but to just read BA.

In the end a much needed win, hope we can build on the positives of it.

It's fallen off during conference play, however. Smaller sample size but we're 6th in conference in DR%. That's one of the things Ball State does well, however. They're 4th in conference OR%, and 2nd in DR%.

At first I was concerned with the offensive rebounds we gave up, especially considering that Ball State shot well, but we got enough turnovers to mitigate that damage. I'm resigned to the fact that when we shoot well, we'll have a chance. When we don't, we won't. Nothing earth shattering with that knowledge, but it helps me to make some sense of this year.

We lost 2 games where we shot above average: Belmont and Toledo. Belmont, well they (okay, Bradshaw) just shot better. Toledo was average shooting, but hurt us by getting offensive rebounds and not turning the ball over. Hard to win games when you're not getting stops.

Speaking of reading BA, did anybody catch Russ going out of his way to point out a "high basketball IQ" play by Bean?

Must have been that glimmer of light in a dark room. He did play well in spurts last night. Balancing the books so to say. His post game presser comments were interesting - "I think I got myself ready to play today. When you lose four in a row, at some point, you've got to get fed up with it. I was just determined. I didn't want to lose tonight."

Lots of *I's*, not much teamspeak. May be a form of leadership?

Russ was also scaldingly critical of Bean in the early minutes, especially when he tried a behind the back pass on a 2-on-1 breakaway and turned the ball over. Glad I don't have to coach him...I'd probably spend all my time screaming at him...like Christian last year.

I hope this carries over to Saturday. We haven't had back-to-back wins yet this season.

WOW that was majorly bad. I have not seen that much since the days of summer ball when guys are showing out. Iowa State PG is pretty accomplished at pulling off these types of passes but that was just shocking.

I wouldn't scream at him at all. I would just look at him on the bench and count the minutes until his scholarship opened up.

I thought the same but also thought he caught himself and talked about some "we" stuff as well. Specifically mentioned him and Stevie playing well together. I lean toward the side that says it is his way to demonstrate leadership.

We're on the same page about Mr. Bean, Borna, but to be fair didn't he respond with the above quote when he was specifically asked about his own turn around? Often the cliches guys spit out about teamwork don't result in the most interesting interview IMHO.

Can't tell you the context. Only took the quote from the ohiobobcats.com site write up. People talked about how Groce controlled what came out his athletes mouths but as they enter adulthood those athletes have found those lessons to be useful going forward. Part of the situation with social media and athletes in the spotlight.....

That is awesome. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have this after every game. So much to see in body and facial language. Bean was pretty good in that interview. Much better than that one line indicated.

Why do we not do that with the camera? Russ and Rob used to do video wraps....wonder why we do not still do those and incorporate the interviews in the whole shebang.

They still do the video wraps.

I listened to the post game and this video is pretty much what I envisioned with body language, facial expessions, etc.

Thanks for posting
