#1. I have never been in your classroom. #2, yeah, and it's actually a habit I'm trying to break, but the second noun definition for retard is:

- a person who is stupid, obtuse, or ineffective in some way: a hopeless social retard.

I think I was within context of the slang use of the term. I do try to balance sensitivity with a healthy disdain for all manner of political correctness, so things sometimes come out up and down the spectrum. It's my gift.

Lesson #2 in my classroom: Be a man, admit mistake, and then move on. Going to the #2 definition, still makes you sound ignorant. Not a PC thing, work with these families, then maybe you'd understand. Do better man!
