Hey, we could go crazy and do a Frank thing and bring back Danny Nee.  Seriously though, Tommy Amaker at Harvard and Sydney Johnson at Fairfield might be decent choices.  Of course I'm biased, but I'd love to see James Jones at Yale and a former Bobcat assistant get a look.  No problems with Dustin either.  My guess though is that if JG leaves, JS will go outside the system and find someone in the midwest to take the job.

I understood the first time you didn't like him and now understand the second time you don't like him.  I got it! I also see a guy who won some and has some midwest/good roots.  I get it, you don't like him!!!!!!!  I also see a guy who won some game in C-USA.  But again Borncat, I get it, you don't like him.  Look at whole thread, just discussing a variety of options.

Robert Morris played us great, but from sitting a few rows behind Andrew Toole I can tell you he came off as a certified jerk.  Talk about belittling your players.  This guy was just awful IMO and I was shocked how well his team played for him by their interactions with him on the bench and during time outs.

The problem I have with Wojcik is he turned us down before we hired O'Shea. If we weren't good enough for him then....

Boals would be the best option as he played here and has a 1994 regular season MAC championship ring to remind the players that there is unfinished business here and that a regular season title with a tournament title is how it should be done next year. I'd have Boals bring in Trent as a special assistant to work with Keely, Baltic and Smith on how to finish around the rim.

Actualy I do like him as a person Engaging, funny and well spoken. You seemed to think it was something personal ...it is not. Unless you think taking care of our players and protecting them is personal.

A guy who has head coaching experience (still has respect in these parts), has been a strong assistant, has a history of staying, is Joe Dooley at Kansas.

Boals would be my first choice but there are definitely some guys out there I would be very happy with.

I have no idea how realistic some of the coaches on this list are are but after looking around, these guys all piqued my interest.

(in no particular order)

Matt Graves, ast. Butler
Darian DeVries, ast. Creighton
Bacari Alexander, ast. Michigan
Dane Fife, ast. MSU
Dwayne Stephens, ast. MSU
Matt McMahon, ast. Murray St.

I'll throw Pat Kelsey's name out there if he indeed is getting back into coaching. I believe he was to be the next coach at Towson before he decided to hang up the whistle a year ago around this time. Kind of has the same demeanor as Groce, and wants guys getting after it defensively. In fact, there were a lot of times during Xavier games where you didn't know who the head coach was, Mack or Kelsey. He's that kinda guy.

Also, Gary left a year early - can we appeal to the NCAA to let him play one more year?

I would be thrilled with Boals, and Dustin retained as the top assistant.  I genuinely believe that is our best choice because there is continuity in the system that way.

I think Schaus has gone outside the obvious because he felt those other hires were the best candidates.  I would be shocked if Jeff Boals doesn't meet the expectations in an interview process.  He has been part of the Thad Matta coaching tree, which seems to be working pretty well right now.  He is known by the Ohio recruits we have right now, too.  Keeping the momentum is very important.

I'm glad I don't have to be in Schaus' position right now.  We have big shoes to fill.

Salary first. As all are now unproven assstant coaches 200 - 250 K a year to start.

Now in reverse order

3) Dustin Ford. Good , knows the current system. JG is holding out for an assitsant salary - My bet it's for Dustin.

2) Jeff Boals  Again, good. Thad Matta man like JG should flow right into the system. Down side - harder to fire an alumni if it doesn't work out.  BUT we fished in that pond last time. Maybe it's time to think out of the box?

1) Richard Pitino

I'm going on a limb with Richard Pitino, but the pedigree is strong, and he's got vast experience on teams that have won conference and NCAA titles. He's really young (29 or so I think) and he's been in the area with Tom Herrion before.

The 'quote' is true. Young, hungry, and I bet would love to get out to prove he's not just Rick's boy.

I get the feeling he enjoys fishing up in Minnesota too much.

Whoever we get needs to keep the team together, the recruits coming and keep the fan base excited!  If we have a coach leave like this again in 4 or 5 year we will be in a good place as program.

He already has done the recruiting and a lot of the coaching during the game.  I believe he deserves a chance.
