First off....
I am very thankful to have a football team that has become consistently near the top of the conference every year. This is something I never thought I would get to experience as a loyal fan of OHIO. I am also thankful for the hard work of our student athletes who are out there doing things that I could never do!

This being said, I do have some thoughts and concerns about what I am seeing. If I had to pick a word to describe our team’s current situation, it would have to be uninspired. I don't know quite when it happened, but this team just seems very lethargic on the field. It's like they are going through the motions, but not with any kind of a purpose. When was the last time we have seen someone put a good hit on someone, or make a good play, then get up and act like they are the king of the hill? I'm not talking over celebration, just lighting a bit of a fire for the rest of the team.

I know we have good players (both on and off the field). I just hope they get this current funk figured out, or else this could be a long finish to the season. Of course, either way, I will always be right there cheering! Go OHIO!

Injuries have really taken a toll on this team.  Check out all of our players, a majority of whom were starters, that have been out for the year.  It's insane.  It's a testament to Ohio's depth that they're 8-2.  I highly doubt any other top MAC team would be where they are today if they suffered the same injuries Ohio's had to go through.  But that's the way it is; injuries are part of the game.  And remember, this was the 3rd game in 12 days for Ohio while BG hadn't played for 11 days.  BG clearly was the fresher team.

But these things tend to equal out over time and Ohio may very well be injury-free next year and make some major noise again.  As long as Coach Solich is here, Ohio will be fine.  The second half of this year just didn't break the way we wanted it to.  It happens.

My one complaint about Solich's tenure is that his teams don't always look like they are fundamentally sound. There's no doubt that we are recruiting great talent for a MAC school and we have built depth. Each year, we have too many miscues and plays where we just don't follow through on getting it right. Dropped passes, blocked kicks, penalties at the worst times. Someone closer to the program, please answer: do we have a very disciplinarian coaching staff?

Two big time blown coverages, one each in the Miami game and BG game.  We just don't seem as prepared nor as able to execute the way we did earlier.

I'm not going to rip on the blown coverage on the BG long pass.  I was standing right there and was certain their RB had the ball and was tackled for a loss.  Everyone in the stadium was fooled by the fake.  That was quite possibly the best execution of a play that I have seen in college football this year.  Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team.  That was a beautiful play.

Agreed on that play, well set up, and executed, also good timing on the call.

I disagree that the players aren't fundamentally sound.  I think a lot of the problem on offense last night is the absence of a receiver that T2 is comfortable with as a second "go to" guy.  With Thompson and Smith out for the year, Donte was double or triple teamed most of the night.  No one stepped forward in being able to get open, so T2 had no place to go.  And because the secondary was covering our receivers so well, most of the linebackers could stay home to cover the run and blitz T2.  Five or six guys blocking seven or eight doesn't work.

I was also surprised that T2 made a few really bad decisions.  Running out of bounds for a five yd loss instead of pitching it out of bounds.  Throwing into triple coverage.  Hope he's not dating Kim Basinger (think "The Natural").

I thought the defense did well, given the short fields they had to defend thanks to the punting game.  They didn't give up a big play, although the 3rd down issue came back last night.  They were able to use the power running game vs. our nickle defense on 3rd and long.  We're also fortunate that Shilz isn't a better QB.  He missed four or five open receivers last night.

Venham also has to realize that this ain't whatever league his high school is in.  You don't have all day to get the punt off.  The blocking scheme also sucks.  Let's get back to having seven at the line because the opposition is getting too much penetration.

Fortunately, this may have been the best D we'll see all year.  Unfortunately, they really exposed our weaknesses.

The special teams really killed us this game, but I still put a lot of blame on the offense.  The offensive line has regressed and tight ends and wide receivers are dropping quite a few must catch balls these last few weeks.  But overall I have to say I think Coach Albin is really showing we need a new offensive playcaller.  We have been complaining about him for years and I think now is finally the time.  When your QB knows what is being called is stupid you need to go or give him the ability to playcall himself.  I swear it seems like most of our completed long passes seem to be coming from TT checks like in the Penn State game.

And I take it that TT told you how stupid the play calling was? LOL

I apologize for being repetitively redundant again.  But it ain't a physical problem (not first and foremost).

Our offense needs to get up to the line of scrimmage and rip.  Against PennState we did that, we brought it.  Now, we get up there, look to the sidelines, scratch our heads, keep looking to the sideline, shuffle our feet and run a play with no deception at all.  2nd quarter yesterday we caved to BG.  We looked totally unsure in preparation and execution.

I don't care so much if the offense doesn't work.  But to looks so unorganized and passive on offense is stunning.

See my comments elsewhere about the defense needs to attack--espec teams that cannot pass and we know are going to run.

Maybe one day we'll run those kind of counter plays BG ran.  Or fake a run before we pass.

Hate the arms extended handoff such that the other side can clearly see who has the ball.  BG had deception in their ball handling.

sargentfan. Your statement from above. " When your QB knows what is being called is stupid you need to go or give him the ability to playcall himself. I swear it seems like most of our completed long passes seem to be coming from TT checks like in the Penn State game."

Not sure what your problem is. The OC/QB would work together on how to attack the D in each situation. The QB would then have a very good idea of what is going to be called. Next, yes most passes deep come from TT  seeing something better.  The whole idea is to take what the D gives.  The beuty of Albin/Gdowski's offense is there is more ability to do this. Credit to the best defense in the MAC.  Great game BG, congratulations to them.

695-I disagree. This is preparation and execution and I don't care how good of a fake it was (i thought we had the guy in the backfield too).  On replay, the CB came up to make a tackle on a guy who didn't get the ball but was pummeled in the backfield.  The safety could not get outside quickly enough to cover the WR.  The CBs first responsibility is to stay with his reciever, not make a tackle for a loss (unless a blitz which it was not).  The first and second levels (DL and LB) need to make that tackle on the RB first which they did (too bad he didn't have the ball).  this one, like Miami was a simple blown coverage!

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa........Let's not reference the K word just yet. Fumble was not statistically our third favorite play last night. We lost by 12 to a MAC team that could still win the conference, not by 31 to a horrid I-AA team. And, ironically, the K word evokes competent--even outstanding--special teams play.  We were not K word bad.

What really bothers me is that our team looks like they played tight.  Earlier in the season, we played loose and played terrific.  We haven't been the same since Norfolk State.

Bcat2 and BillyTheCat you two must be missing the times TT has yelled at the sideline after a bad play happened due to the play call the last few games.  This would leave me to believe that he has some leeway to change plays put not enough.  Between the craziest we have had with our two-back system lately not letting Beau get in a groove when he had been doing so well.  To the lack of immediate adjustments to what the defense is giving us, I mean he is in the booth for a reason, so he can see from above how the defense is positioning.  Another poster even commented on our abadonment of the hurry up offense at times even though we have proven that it is a great tool for us when we need to score and put pressure on a D.  I can't see how I am out of line here.
