Is it April 1 for the Procrastinators Club?

Actually, it doesn't surprise me.  The Big Least has been grasping at straws all year.

You know up until today, I thought the Big East was a better option than the MAC as far as competition from top to bottom.

But now with teams like Temple, Memphis, UCF, SMU, TULANE? The Big East is going to be pretty much as strong, maybe a little stronger, than the MAC at football.  I think its only a matter of time before the Big East basketball schools start to leave and form a new conference with some A-10 members or something.

ECU makes more sense than Tulane.  Yes, Tulane is in the N'awlins TV market, but I doubt that anybody cares about Tulane, even in the Big Easy.  Nine years ago they were on the brink of dropping football.  And even though they're opening a new stadium in '14, they need to be successful on the field -- but they haven't had a winning record since 2002 and haven't even been close since '04.  It's the last act of a desperate conference.  At least ECU will bring some cred to BL football.

I think it is easy for conference to look at a school and say "that'll bring us/lock up the 'X' TV market. And that is certainly a factor. But when it comes to a station signing an 8 year $1billion+ contract, that in and of itself won't be enough. The clamor won't be there in New Orleans for their cable provider to add the BigEast network, nor the eyeballs for the cable company/BEnetwork, to charge high advertiser rates, just because Tulane is playing. Now if they were broadcasting LSU, that might be a different story...

This is pretty shocking.  If I'm Boise and SDSU, I'm getting out of the Big East by any means necessary, get back in the MWC, and awaiting the next round of realignment.  The move for those two schools made little sense in the first place.  Boise wanted the automatic shot at the BCS, but that's going to be gone anyway.  Since they both joined the BE, the conference lost Pitt, Rutgers, and Syracuse and will almost certainly lose Louisville, UConn, or UC to the ACC.  Wasn't TCU also set to join when Boise accepted the invitation?  I also can't remember if WVU was still in the conference when Boise accepted.

To be honest, with Utah State and SJSU joining the MWC in 2013, that's a better football conference anyway.  The Big East has become a joke, and I would expect Boise to come in and dominate in football.  Hell, I wouldn't even be shocked if SDSU comes in and becomes the prominent basketball program, especially if UConn or Louisville leave.

East Carolina to Big East makes sense.  (And I've been predicting it for years.  Buy and hold.  Buy and hold.)

The Big East is so desperate I expect the next invitation to go to Charlotte, who doesn't even have a football team yet.

This is pretty comical.  I can only imagine Uconn and Louisville promising anything and everything to get into the ACC.  I'd give up some TV money or whatever it takes if I was them.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

I now imagine these conferences' brainstorming meetings go like:

(bubbling sound)

(cough)

(clinking of wooden tile being taken out of Scrabble bag)

"It's a U!"

"What did it spell?"

"E...C...U. We're apparently going after ECU."

"Picking random letters out of a Scrabble bag never lies."

There are more than a few on the Marshall board calling for a return to the MAC. Looking at their future in C-USA is pretty sorry.  would we take them back if they asked?

I predict that Marshall and Ohio are going to be back in the same conference one way or another sooner rather than later.  I think with the defections of Tulane and ECU the Rubicon has been crossed.

I tend to agree with you on that as well. The fact that Marshall has scheduled 12 of their next 17 OOC football games with MAC teams is telling to me. It's almost too logical though.

Like the add of ECU for football only.

Tulane is simply a market move.. in my mind to keep Houston, SMU, UCF and Memphis happy..

BYU turned down an invite so the West might be dead but I don't think Boise can afford the exit fee.

You guys would still jump at the chance to join the Big East no matter what shape it's in.

In a second, especially if that meant booting Eastern or Western and moving BGSU to the West.  That'd immediately make the conference much better in b-ball and football.

UC is to small go to the ACC. I'm not sure about Lville either. I think Louisville is going to the SEC or Big 12 and UC will either end up in the A-10 or MAC.

Not a chance.

Really?  Duke and Wake Forest comibined aren't as large as UC.  UC would be in the upper half of the ACC in total enrollment.

It's cute that you think UC will end up in the MAC.

this is like moving up in the polls during a bye week, just sit back and let the others self destruct. Selling your soul for TV markets is just stupid if its not also a top 20 program.

no coincidence that the Big Least is currently negotiating their new TV contract with ESPN. Conspiracy theorists love to believe that that the BE's downfall was perpetrated by the network.

I would be shocked if the BE and CUSA continue to have a sizable monetary advantage.

Big East is not currently negotiating with ESPN. they've now opened it up to other networks.
