The Big East (Rutgers and Louisville) both crapped the bed today, and probably dropped out of the top 25.

Could the winner of two 11-1 MAC teams get into the top 16, and therefore a BCS Berth?

We'll see what they are both ranked tomorrow, going into the last week!

Remember, though, Notre Dame is considered non-AQ and will get a BCS bid, no matter what happens at USC tonight.  While either Kent or NIU could get into the top 16 (Kent more likely than NIU because they're already in the BCS standings), with ND sitting there it's not likely either will be in the mix.  The interesting part is that I think under the arrangement ND has with the Big Least, they would get the BL's BCS slot if they stay ranked ahead of the BL champ.

No, Notre Dame is a special case and is automatically in so long as they're ranked so high. They don't count against the non-BCS conferences.

Kent St has the best shot, they should be in the top 20 BCS after this week. They will get drilled by NIU in the MACC though.

You're right.  ND has to be in the top 8 to get an AQ.  The hang-up may come from Boise, which is ranked ahead of Kent and will likely stay that way this week.  They play at Nevada next week.

Boise has to win the Mountain West for that to matter, and the odds aren't in their favor. Plus, Kent would almost certainly pass them with a win next week.

Really a perfect storm of losses by the bottom half of the Top 25.

#10 Florida State LOST
#11 Clemson LOST
#15 Oregon State LOST
#16 Texas LOST
#17 UCLA LOST
#18 Rutgers LOST
#19 Michigan LOST
#20 Louisville LOST
#21 Oklahoma State LOST
#24 Arizona LOST
#25 Washington LOST

Kent might end up at #16 going into the MACC. NIU should be right behind them.

Interesting note that IF Kent or NIU (or Boise State for that matter) gets in, it'll be the first time a non-AQ get to the BCS with a loss.

What are the MWC tiebreakers?  If Boise beats Nevada next week, 3 schools are 7-1 in conference, and are each 1-1 against one another.

According to this blog from the MWC website, there are no tiebreakers in MWC football.  The three would be considered co-champs.  The blogger indicates that Boise's been knocked out of the BCS race, but I think he's assuming that a two-loss non-AQ couldn't make it into the top 16.  Given how screwy this season has been, it might not be out of the question.

I'd really hope that a one-loss MAC Champ would leapfrog a two-loss Boise State. They lost their one marquee game to a Michigan State team that had to win yesterday just to become bowl eligible. What's their best win this season? BYU? Fresno State?

Sure Kent got spanked by an awful Kentucky team, but they ran the table in the MAC, and beat a Rutgers squad (on the road) who was undefeated at the time.

NIU doesn't really have a signature win, but their only loss was on opening day by one point to a B1G team.

The MAC has stepped it up this year. I think it's pretty comparable to the MWC this season. So why should a two-loss MWC co-Champ be ranked higher than a one-loss MAC Champ that went undefeated in the conference, including beating another ranked conference team in the MACC?

Just to be safe: Go Nevada!

Jason Kirk is projecting NIU to the Orange Bowl:  http://www.sbnation.com/bowl-games-2012-2013/2012/11/25/3...

Not that it means anything, but Kent is #18 and NIU #19 in the new AP poll. Interesting that Oregon State didn't move from #16 after losing to Oregon and UCLA only dropped #15 to #17.

Boise State #25. Penn State #28.

I believe in the BCS formula they use the AP but not the coaches poll

so Boise is 25th in AP - and I bet the computers like NIU and KSU better than Boise

Other way around.  Coaches and Harris is used (AP withdrew a few years back).

Boise jumped 7 spots on a bye week, while NIU and Kent moved up 5 and 6 slots, respectively, by actually winning.

One would think that the NIU-KSU winner would jump higher than Boise State next week in the Coaches and the computers.

I still don't understand how Oregon State and UCLA can both lose, but not drop in the rankings. I know they lost to higher ranked teams, but I was hoping the two MAC teams that actually won would pass them.

And how does an idle Boise State jump 7 spots, but NIU and Kent only 5 and 6, respectively?

Boise jumping over Kent and NIU - without even playing, no less - is shady as hell.

Guess you aren't allowed to play Cinderella in Division I football until you are ESPN approved.

Most of the voters in the polls go on name recognition and reputation.  To their credit, though, Boise played no 1AA schools and had six bowl eligible teams on their schedule: the other four in their conference plus BYU and MSU.  Kent had only four bowl eligible teams (BSU, Rutgers, BG and Ohio) and had a 1AA school.  NIU had three bowl eligible teams (BSU, CMU, Toledo) and a 1AA school.

Obvious lesson:  undefeated MAC team does, as I've always said, make the BCS.
