Guess we can afford that track in the MPF now.  Or the new FB locker room project.  Or pay for unsold tickets in DC.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

Still better in Conference USA, Marshall?

That should be an extra ~$500,000 to the Ohio University athletic department.

If it happens, that would be great.  NIU has been the most consistently successful MAC program for at least the past three years.

It'll be more like $1.1 million, from what I'm reading. MAC gets 60% of the bowl payout and that is likely to get spread evenly, right?

Plus UMASS doesn't get a cut this year, so the MAC cut is divisible by 12.

That's not the way other non-BCS conferences have done it. Participating school gets much bigger share.

I could argue against Balls and Kant getting cuts because of the votes of Lembo and Hazell. #notteamplayers

I am unfamiliar with our specific setup as it has never come into play.  They will very likely get what they need to cover expenses and expenses will be higher than a normal bowl as they will be expected to stay for about a week and take part in festivities and probably bring the whole band etc.  They also will probably be responsible for selling a minimum number of tickets which the athletic department will need to buy up if they don't sell them (and they won't).  I suspect that comes out of expenses as well.   Otherwise the other 11 schools would make an unexpected big profit on it while NIU would lose possibly several 100 grand.

That ISN'T how the AQ confereneces handle it.  UCONN lost a boatload on unsold tickets a few years back .  They look at it if you can't sell 'em then you don't belong in the conference.  We're all going to get our expected yearly BCS share because we have already budgeted for it and if you eat the tickets then that is your problem.

If that's the way it is expect NIU's expenses to run close to 5M.  Then everyone's cut is 3M/12 which is 250K.

If all this actually falls into place, it should help NIU that they are playing a Florida team in the game.  FSU is a weak third in resident support behind Gators/Hurricanes, but the Seminoles should deliver a pretty strong contingent to the game, so hopefully they can help sell tickets that the Huskies are committed to purchase.

FWIW, I believe every non-AQ school has sold all of their BCS Bowl tickets. We'll see how NIU fares.

I hate college football.

Is there any other sport where the little guy is looked down on with such loathing and disdain? and is there another sport where the coach misses out on the biggest game of his career because he was allowed to be hired away by a team that will never reach that level but can easily increase his comp by 5x?

the whole thing sucks. /rant

I believe ticket allotment is 17,500 which puts them on the hook for maybe 1M to 1.5M.  Every ticket that they sell reduces what they owe.  Something tells me that they won't sell all of them.  I hope that they do but I am not holding my breath.

If this holds, huge applause to the Northern Illinois Huskies.  The first MAC school to crack the BCS Bowl bubble.

This is history, ladies and gentlemen.

Also, we're in the midst of a historic run of sports excellence for the MAC:

Akron was the NCAA national champion in soccer a couple years back.
Ohio makes the Sweet 16 earlier this year, nearly cracking the Elite 8.
Kent State wins the Regional and Super Regional and advanced into the College World Series this year.
Now Northern Illinois is going to a BCS Bowl.

Wow.

As I mentioned in another post, I really do like our conference.   I know a lot of people want us to move onto something bigger and better, but we're a solid mid major conference.    Good luck to NIU in the Orange Bowl and to all the MAC teams in their respective bowl games.
