Oh Boy...this could get ugly. Ole Miss just laid waste to Mississippi State tonight...a team that has suffered a similar late season swoon to OUr team.

Ole Miss seems to be peaking at the right time...only lost by 7 to LSU last week. Yikes!

LSU did not take Ole Miss seriously.  LSU scores 21 in the 4th Qtr and wins by 7.  Rebel Donte Moncrief is their T. Archer, Donte is 6' 3" and 216 WR had 13 for 334 and 5 TDs in their last two games.

Holy crap!  If this rumor is true, how screwed up is a bowl system where we end up tied for 5th in our conference yet play a prominent SEC team, and the MAC champion winds up playing a Sun Belt team?   Makes no sense.

When were the MAC bowl agreements set and how good was the MAC then?  The MAC, all of a sudden is dangerous the old fashioned way, six teams with 1,300 yard rushers, Kent with a back-up over 1,000.

Is the MAC still splitting all bowl revenue evenly throughout the conference?

It's looking like a pretty strong possibility the winner of Kent St & NIU is going to get into the top 16 in the BCS and get an at-large to the BCS.  $17 million dollar payout per BCS bowl.  I remember hearing horror stories about UCONN losing a ton of money on their BCS bowl relating to not filling their ticket allotment and sending everyone and their brother to the bowl game.

With at least NIU, Kent, Ball State, OHIO, BGSU, and Toledo bowling this year with an outside chance of CMU getting a bowl, it seems the MAC (and hopefully Ohio) stands a chance to add some money to the coffers.  Does anyone know if UMASS gets a cut this year?

This is a Big East vs. SEC bowl. The Big East has six bowl tie-ins including the BCS. Currently there are 4 bowl-eligible teams in the Big East, and Pitt and UConn sitting at 5-6. Is the Compass Bowl just assuming that they both won't win next week?

Can the bowl even make a deal with us when there's still a possibility that the Big East might be able to fill their commitment to it? Will we know that we are playing here before Saturday's games?

I made a post on rebelfaithful.com and asked if anyone could confirm this.  So far five looks, but no confirmation.  I'll let the Ohio faithful know if I get any confirmation or denial.

Here's the one response so far from a poster calling himself Rush8:

It's a possibility, but it probably depends on money, and the fact that the SEC won't be sending as many teams as it can to the bowls.

Southeastern Conference
The Southeastern Conference has ten bowl tie-ins.[12]
#1 Bowl Championship Series. The winner of the SEC Championship Game gains an automatic berth to a BCS bowl game, preferentially the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
#2 The Capital One Bowl must select the team with the best overall record among non-BCS playing SEC teams, or a team within one game of the best record.
#3-4 The Cotton Bowl Classic has first pick of remaining teams from the Western Division, and the Outback Bowl typically picks a remaining team from the Eastern Division.
#5 The Chick-fil-A Bowl selects after those two bowls.
#6 The Gator Bowl receives the sixth pick.
I am guessing we are here.>>>#7-8 The Music City Bowl and the Liberty Bowl work with the SEC office to determine the seventh and eighth picks.
#9 The BBVA Compass Bowl receives the ninth choice of SEC teams. In years where the SEC does not have nine bowl eligible teams, the BBVA Compass Bowl will select from the Sun Belt Conference instead.
#10 The Independence Bowl receives the tenth pick.

Ohio Director of Media Relations Tom Symonds told me he has heard nothing of the bowl yet.

Symonds told me "I haven't heard anything regarding that matchup". This regarding a report Ohio-Ole Miss in BBVA Compass is close.

Once more, I have it from a good source it is a strong possibility Ohio-Ole Miss in the BBVA Compass Bowl & may be close to a done deal.

One of the interesting propositions for Ohio is the long layoff and possible return of some previously injured players. Still waiting conf.

The more I dwell on this, the less it passes the smell test.

The SEC is more likely be unable to populate this bowl than Big East. So it's not vs. Ole Miss.

And there's that pesky Sun Belt tie in...

I don't know, it seems like Ole Miss will be there.

We should all be pulling hard for Cincinnati and South Florida on Saturday to keep the Big East at just four bowl-eligible teams. That's why I can't see this deal getting done before Saturday. No way can they agree to us when the Big East has the opportunity to fill the slot.

Very vague comment from Schaus regarding Ohio-Ole Miss report. No confirmation, but not denying report.

OU AD Jim Schaus "It will most likely be next weekend until the bowl picture becomes clear" regarding report Ohio-Ole Miss in BBVA Compass.

Miss isn't that prominent anymore.  This will be their first bowl since the 2009 Cotton.  They were 4-7 in 2010 and 2-10 last year.

This is one of the two bowls the SEC may have to leave open if they get two BCS bids, so it's likely we would see a Sun Belt or maybe Iowa St in there.

Right, so I think this will only happen for Ohio if both Pitt and UConn lose.  If either one wins, the BBVA (which goes to the Big East #5) would take them instead, right?

Pitt, UConn, and GTech are the three teams that could become bowl eligible next week.  GTech and Conn are likely to lose, but Pitt will probably be favored.

Right. I would think that they are contractually obligated to take an eligible Big East team before going to the secondary tie-ins.

As for GT, they'll petition the NCAA to give them bowl eligibility at 6-7, given they lose to FSU. That's what happened to UCLA last season. UCLA actually lost their bowl to finish at 6-8.

I think the ACC has a good shot at getting a waiver to keep  Ga Tech on the priority list no matter what happens in the championship game.  If MiamiF hadn't self-imposed the ban, they would've gone to the ACC championship with a 7-5 record and would've gone to a bowl, win or lose.  Ga Tech would've been 6-6 and would've gone to a bowl.  I don't think the NCAA would penalize Ga Tech simply because MiamiF took cyanide for this season.
