Hopefully we'll avoid the hurry-up. Why would we want to do anything to try to put the opposition on their heels, to seize the initiative?

More wide-receiver screens, please!

The problem isn't the wide receiver screen (all thanksgiving weekend I watched team after team get 7-12 yards/play each time they ran a WR screen). The problem is in the execution...I haven't decided if the problem is in how long it takes the play to develop (i.e. there is a fake or a look in the opposite direction first), in how long it takes the ball to get there (TT's passes haven't had the zip on them the last half+ of the season, likely relating to his abdomen injury suffered early in the season), or in the blocking (i.e. the 2nd wideout, the one who doesn't get the pass thrown to him, isn't taking his man out of the play).

You know what WR screen I loved? The one NIU ran in the MACCG, which started as an inside zone read option. When Lynch kept the ball and headed for the edge, the defense collapsed on him, and he just flipped it out to a wide open receiver. I had never seen that wrinkle on the play we run 20-30 times a game.

I'm all for doing the same old thing when it works. Remember the Grobe days when everyone in the ball park including the waterboy and cheerleaders knew that the next play was going to be an option run. It was we are in your face, we are going to run this play, and we are daring you to try and stop it. That was good, old smash mouth football. If we can establish the run against ULM and Beau is making six yards at a clip, I don't mind at all wearing down their defense to the point that they can't stop anything by the 4th quarter. What bothers me is doing things over and over when they are not working.

What does bringing up Grobe have to do with the stunning apparent lack of organization/creativity/thinking that we've seen on the field this year.

Hey, more wide receiver screens for no yards at all! More making running backs on teams that can't hardly pass into All-Americans!
