Sigh.....I blame Obama. He's not creating jobs for sub-NFL caliber middle linebackers. So they're stuck at their parent's house and bored as hell.

I mean, who hasn't had a few pops, went to the local baseball field, found it locked, went to Wal-Mart, got chain cutters, went back to the local baseball field, tore the place to absolute shreds, and then booked it out of dodge?

We call that a Tuesday round here....

In all honesty...this story along with the disappointment of this season is making me question why I care about any of this at all. Not sure how many more Bobcat arrests I've got in me.

Someone remind me, why do we invest so much time and thought?

I'm not suggesting that there is no reason for disappointment, but... really?

A graduate who is no longer with the team makes a boneheaded move and you're questioning why you care? It's a sad story, but hardly a sign of institutional malfeasance. You're being a bit dramatic and more than a bit unfair to the program and the kids who are still in it.

The crime itself isn't that disturbing.  It's not like he beat someone up or robbed someone or was dealing drugs.  He caused property damage that can (and will) be repaired, with the funds coming either from him and the others or  insurance.  He'll likely get probation plus community service if he pays for his share of the damage or minimal jail time if he doesn't.  And if he hasn't had any priors, he might not spend any time in jail.  It's a felony only because of the amount of damage.

The disturbing part is who did it.  He has better character than that.  Hope he gets straightened out.

This thread will be complete when we find out that Noah has been posting here for years under the user name Donuts.

I blame concussions for this.

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.

c'mon, after 5 years of being Athens and not being able to go hog wild on Halloween he made up fo lost time by getting drunk and doing donuts on a ball field with his buddies. Definitely a dumb move but nothing to get too worked up about.

Plus, knowing that there's surveillance footage of him buying bolt cutters at a Walmart while dressed as Jerry Sandusky is either really funny or really embarrassing. I'm leaning towards really funny.

I thought about the "goin' hog wild" angle, and I know it's difficult having to be so straight-laced all the time when you're late teens-early 20s.  But right now because of the dollar amount involved he's facing a felony charge, which may affect his ability to get some jobs and receive some benefits if his lawyer doesn't get it reduced to a misdemeanor.

91k in damages is hardly a probationary offense and will likely not get dropped. It is also flippant to suggest that it's not that big a deal because insurance will pay for this.

No, Bob Costas would blame trucks, baseball diamonds, and/or bolt cutters

So if you are rich enough to pay damages you can go around causing felony level damage to other's property and it is no big deal.  Sounds like you have experience with this.  How much and who paid, you or your parents?

I am sure he'll be paying for this, and after restitution, there probably won't be any jail time. He might not have any left over to contribute to the IPF, though.

I disagree with you. The "crime" is very disturbing.  He and his friends made a conscious decision to go to a Wal-Mart after they couldn't ram their way in through a fence. They then made a choice to go back to the the field and break in. That was a CHOICE. Whether under the influence of anything or not we all know right from wrong.  And no one will convince me that all of the charged parties were so wasted that they couldn't differentiate right from wrong.

And to your last statement ... we thought he had better character than  what he showed. We don't need OUr university in the news in this regard.

From that research, a subpoena was obtained.  Glad to know my teachers here at Ohio have higher requirements than the State of Nebraska on credible sources.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Trying to figure out...

Is a "cookie" in Nebraska the same as a "donut" here in Ohio?

How do the gourds come into play?

When will the iPhone video be released?
