I hate doin stuff like this after one of the most complete games that I've ever seen a Cat football team play, but after watchin the game over a few times (my wife laughs at the word few) I'd be remiss if I didn't shout OUt a few names.....the good news bein they all return next year and played at a step above on Friday.

Sure I can't say enough about the coaching and guys like TT, Beau, the Moores, Tremayne and WR's Futrell and Cochran...but again here are a few that dazzled me:

Ian Wells

This guy may be a 3rd or 4th string CB next  year (depending on everyones health issues) but he sure played like a first stringer on Friday.  Even if he doesn't block that kick....in the first quarter he was a madman....tackling and covering like crazy....he is an athlete and hopefully his experiences this year will help him take that next step.

Antwan Crutcher

Should be OUr D-line anchor next year at 6'1"-300.  Did anyone else besides me cringe when they sorta toe drug him off the field? I thought it may be an injury that would cause him problems next year.  Low and behold when we had the Warhawks pinned at their 5 I see him throwin blocks after Tremaynes int....looked like a man amongst boys out there.....he's a keeper.

Nathan Carpenter

If this kid was 6'1" or so he'd play on Sunday...still might who knows....but on a couple of passes he was just inches from an int.  He always seems to be at the right place at the right time. Man in that 1st quarter he was all over the field....looked like he knew the Warhawk plays before they even ran them.....lookin forward to havin both him and Carrie as d-backs next year.

Ty Branz

With Tremayne gone we're gonna need someone to put pressure on the qb next year.  Most of the time he was in running lanes to stop their qb, but when  he was turned loose he was a beast.  I know it was a 2nd team OT but Ty had 2 sacks in a row where the guy looked like his feet was in concrete.  I think he and Waters and hopefully the 2 DT's will prove the JUCO naysayers wrong.

Kyle Hammonds

I know...I know....he was runnin against their 2nd team and he only gained 36 total yards....but how'd ya like some of those runs....most were over 5 and at least one was over 10.  He and Daz runnin outside and Beau and Boykin breakin tackles OUr running game should be out of sight next year.  OUr true freshman recruit is a good one...but if everyone stays healthy it looks like a redshirt for him.  Nice to have this kind of depth.

Doc, the thing was that it set a positive tone for next year because as well as the Bobcats played, there were still 12 players out.

For sure.  Those extra weeks of practice not only gave us time to heal...but also gave some of the inexperienced players like the ones I mentioned and a few others a chance to grow and shine.

I can't believe ULM took off 2 weeks of practice......that and the cooler weather didn't hurt OUr chances.

Carpenter is a nice player, but he has more than height keeping him from playing on Sunday. And that is not a diss on him, just an honest opinion. Love the guys style, but his game has limitations.

During my second viewing I chuckled about the two week rest. The sideline reporter noted Browning got together with a receiver during the break. I envisioned them at a holiday party in sandals tossing a Nerf. Meanwhile, Tettleton was dropping dimes.
