Studio announcer on ESPN halftime referred to the 'Cats as "The Flying Frankies" where the hell does that come from?

I know ESPN has a bunch of morons on TV but someone should complain about him. Using that term demeans Frank Solich and OU.   Haven't heard  of the Flying Sabans .  Glad they kicked butt today.

They've been calling us that for a while, I don't know where it came from either but it sounds ridiculous.

It's sad how much ESPN craps on the heads of the non BCS schools.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

I think Rece Davis has consistently referred to Ohio as the Fighting Frankies. I've always interpreted it as a term of endearment.

That's been the name of my fantasy football team for the past few years.

Can't stand 'em either.  May's too full of himself; Holtz looks like his teeth will fly out of his mouth at any moment; Davis is somewhat tolerable although I'm still pissed at him for treating NIU's Orange Bowl selection as if somebody committed murder.

I took it as less demeaning and more a term of endearment, as someone stated earlier.

You know what Frank Solich likes most about coaching in the MAC? While he gets older, his coaching competition stays the same age, man.

The real O-H-I-O

I believe it was Davis who, in complimenting Solich on the rise of the Ohio program, observed that the Bobcats had been "on the ESPN family" of networks "some 50 times" during the Solich years.  I took that as major praise.

ESPN and the nation does love them OHIO.

During this period, what's the next highest amount of appearances by a MAC squad?

(Hi, Mike.  Sorry for being out of touch.  HNY to you and the family!)

Flying Frankies? Fighting Frankies? I like either one. I think they're said in fun and with some respect. I'll take them over the nationally little known Leave Cleve days of my years in Athens.

Did anyone else hear the trash that Lou Holtz was talking about Athens right after the game?  The other two were in disbelief he was doing so right after we won our game.

Essentially he was saying that Solich has done a good job recruiting despite there "Not being internet in Athens" and that athens is so remote that it is "15 minutes from Columbus - by telephone"

Geezer

Here's a link to Lou's comments on Athens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUDu8coGv24

I thought it was funny...no offense taken. I take pride in the fact that we're in the middle of nowhere!

I like it.

I've heard us as the Flying Frankies, Fightin' Frankies and Fearless Frankies.  One of the above was Frankies nickname back in his days as a fullback.

I like that no one actually knows which one Frank Solich was known as.  The flyin', fightin', fearless Bobcats are a national favorite right now.

I've seen crazier things happen.
