I want to get from Staunton, VA to LA for this game. Is anyone coming through/from there/near there that I can hitch a ride with?

Went a little too far west, let's go SJ Earthquakes!

Aw shucks, if this was a night game I might be able to make it, but with the fact that my daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law aren't leaving until noon that day, there's no way the wife and I can make it to Shreveport in time.  I was really hoping for the Compass Bowl.  Darn Pitt!  Pederson's revenge against me, I guess, for all the nasty things I've said about him on BA.

Considering a drive from Ohio. Not sure if I would be leaving from Upper Sandusky or the Athens area. My thought would be to attend the bowl game and head north to Oklahoma for the basketball game the next day and head home. Not sure on exact dates, but would be willing to share a ride.

FYI...it's less than three hours drive from Dallas to Shreveport. Those having a hard time finding flights may want to look at the fly/drive option.

Along Mike's lines, 4.5 hours from Houston if you are more a United flyer. Seems to be very expensive to fly into the smaller airports (Shreveport, Texarkana, Tyler, Monroe...)

Really going to need a fare sale to be able to swing this. Once there, it seems reasonable.

Good luck flight hunting.

Other options

Southwest  Airline airports to Shreveport
Little Rock would be  a 3:30 drive
Jackson would be  a 3:20 drive

To drive to the basketball  game in Norman from Shreveport it's about 6 hrs,  too expensive to fly...approx 580.00 Shreveport to OKC on United.

Flight to Dallas International with hotel at the airport for 3 days was under $600.00.  Three hrs to football and about the same for basketball next day.  Leave thursday morning coming back sunday morning.

Dallas has two airports and Jackson has a lot of southwest flights . Both are straight shot to Shreveport on I20. If you go with Jackson, MS you can cruise by our campus and check it out. Hope a lot of your fans travel. You will find our fans to be friendly and your welcome to walk up to tailgaters we always welcome other fans. We should have minimum 25k hoping to bring 35-40k will see what happens.

Has anyone heard whether the athletic department or OBC will offer travel packages? I haven't seen anything yet beyond, "Here's the team hotel, book now b/c it will fill up fast!"

Or has any enterprising BAer thought about renting a 15 passenger van and stocking it with Bud Light?

I highly doubt there will be travel packages. Those are always outlandishly priced and have very few takers. In this day and age of Travelocity, Expedia, etc....getting there should not be a problem, so long as it's within your financial means.

By bus (assuming an average number of stops, etc.) this is about a 20 hour drive. That's a bit far for most folks to tolerate - even students.

Has anyone found a decent hotel for a good price? I would like shuttle service from airport to hotel.  The Bowl offers shuttle service to a few of the hotels is what I'm hearing, but don't know which ones.  I'll take advice from someone that knows the area.  The Holiday Inn Downtown is $82, but the reviews have me worried.  I just can't pay $209 for the Hilton where the team is staying. Your help will be appreciated.

Students (myself included) sold out the buses to New Orleans in a day or two. I think they even ordered more than originally planned. I was on one of the Cleveland buses and I think it was a 23 hour drive (left Cleveland at 7PM, got to New Orleans at 5PM Central). Granted, a day in New Orleans is a lot more enticing than a day in Shreveport (no offense to our new ULM posters). With the $40 price tag, the university basically paid for the buses and hotel to boost ticket sales. Students are willing to travel long hours as long as the price is right.

The Holiday Inn downtown, is right off the Interstate and in walking distance from everything.  It isn't one of the newest hotels in town, but there is nothing wrong with it.  I have stayed there before I moved to Shreveport.

Welcome Bobcats! Glad you are coming to Louisiana; The Independence Bowl  really goes out to ensure fans and the teams have a great experience.
Check out the Courtyard Hotel at The Louisiana Boardwalk. It's located in the middle of a great venue of shops and entertainment area that you walk out your front door to. There are other great options as well. Let me know if I can help.   See ya soon.  ULM fan!!!!!

We likely are staying at this hotel if we can't get in billeting on base. We were talking about the trip tonight. Staying downtown we can go to the night spots down there easier. Is the Blind Tiger still open?

Reposting from another thread. Important info (food) from ULMSigEp (thanks!):

Hey:

I have never eaten at that Crawdaddys Kitchen you are talking about. Crawfish are not in season yet. So, you can mark that off your list.

Places I recommend:
1. Blind Tiger - It is down town and has a Cajun Menu. When people come to Shreveport, that is where they usually go.
2. Pizza - Johnnys Pizza is a local chain. Very popular here.
3. Casinos - We have several Casinos and i recommend trying to get a room there. They are all down town and walking distance to everything.
4. Louisiana Boardwalk - Great place to go shopping and several rest's. Would be a great place to take the family and wife too. It is VERY nice and family oriented. I like O'Briens Irish Pub and bar that is there.
5. Herby K's - Another local eatery.
6. For the younger crowd, there are a lot of clubs downtown, all by the Blind Tiger and the Casinos.

One person stated on another thread. When going to the stadium, take cash! Seriously, do not stop and ask for directions. The stadium is located in a bad area of town.

Let me know if you have more questions.

I hear ya Tyler, but I know you'll be presently surprised by all Shreveport/Bossier has to offer. The casinos have some really nice restaurants/night clubs, there's lots of places to eat/shop. Check out links below:

If anyone is looking at flights into Houston, the Houston Chapter of the alumni association is likely planning a group trip and can provide transportation to Bobcats flying into Houston.

PM me if you are interested.

Thank you for all this information. It's certainly helpful. I'll be traveling down from Cleveland with my wife and 16 year old son.

Anyone have an idea of how many folks are going? I can't get a single alumni buddy's to go which is a big surprise to me.

One of my buddy's replied to my request for him to go saying "seeing Tettleton jog out of bounds on 4th and 16 late in the Kant Game is a play that I can't get out of my dome."

It's tough for me to forget the Troy meltdown, this is shaping up to be on a similar path. I hope I'm wrong.

I want to go but going solo is a tough sell. Add about $1200 for flight and hotel and I may be insane for even considering it.

Scott Welsh - you out there? You and Ellis on this game?

Well, I was at the Kent game and despite the recent poor play, I'm going to Shreveport. The fumble and the "pic six" killed us, otherwise we were in it. Yea, I know, "coulda, woulda, shoulda..."

I graduated in the '70's and never considered OU athletic programs worthy of anyone's attention. Since Frank came on board, my attitudue has changed. My son has become a huge OU fan and I've caught his infection. Personally, I like the fact that the Ohio college I attended and love is "in the mix" during bowl season. I kind of like the fact that all the Ohio State fans (who we know didn't really go to Ohio State) are sitting home while the real Ohio is "in the mix". My wife and I are using it as an opportunity to let my son see the South and experiencce Louisville, Nashville, Memphis and Little Rock on the way down, and then see Jackson, Tuscalusa and Brimingham on the way back. We're going low budget, but we're going. Life is short, so I suggest everyone get on board and go to this game. Win or lose, it will be a great experience. I'm all "in" and looking for updates for those who do this on a regular basis. Go Ohio!
