Sure would have liked to have had more people watch our Bobcats stuff ULM...

In the first game of ESPN’s tripleheader, the Louisiana-Monroe/Ohio Independence Bowl drew 1.7 million viewers — down 30% from Missouri/North Carolina last year (2.5M), down 22% from Air Force/Georgia Tech in 2010 (2.2M), and the least-viewed edition of the game since Louisiana Tech/Northern Illinois in 2009 (1.2M).

The Independence Bowl ranked as the least-watched game of the 2012-13 bowl season through Friday.

Workday before most people sneaked out of the office for the weekend.

On the plus side, ours way by far the best bowl game of the day.

EDIT: By "most people" I mean casual college football watchers. The game watch I attended (in Chicago, organized by the AWESOME Ohio alumni chapter there) was better attended than any of the organizers expected

after seeing LaTech fans just troll the crap out of ULM for their attendance and for losing, and after putting up w/NIU fans constantly yammering on about how superior the MAC West supposedly is, I look at our 1.7 vs their 1.2 and say hell yeah. And they played on a sunday night. Screw em, go Cats.

MY STATE. MY TEAM.

No wonder the game had bad ratings. Look at what it was up against:

Independence Bowl: 1.74 million viewers
2PM Law and Order: SVU Rerun: 1.77 million viewers
3PM Law and Order: SVU Rerun: 2.11 million viewers
4PM Law and Order: SVU Rerun: 2.38 million viewers

I think their data's incomplete.  I know in the Lembright household the game drew a 100% viewership rating between 2:00 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. last Friday!

0% watchage in my home.  I thought the game was at 7 p.m., so imagine my surprise when a friend called me at work at 5:30 to congratulate me on our performance.

Do they track online viewers?  Because with the 1:pm central  start on a Friday, that's how I had to watch the first 3 quarters.

The time slot had a lot to do with the ratings.  The two previous Independence Bowls were played at 5 pm ET on the Monday after a weekend Christmas Day.  Lots of people had (or took) the day off, so there was a much bigger audience available.  The 2009 game was at 5 pm on the Monday after a Friday Christmas, so there may have been fewer people with the day off.  I know the Gator Bowl folks weren't happy with this year's ratings and are discussing changing their day so they're not competing with a bunch of other games (and maybe getting some primetime).  Bowl ratings have also been generally declining over the past few years.  I think fans don't see the significance of a given bowl game to be as great as loser-goes-home NCAA tourney games; with bowl games even the winner goes home.  The football playoff system might diminish interest in bowls even further.  They may need to incorporate some of the "lesser" bowls into the early rounds.

No. They are Nielsen ratings based on live TV viewers and those who recorded it on their DVR and watched it the same day.

Thanks Tyler, that's what I thought.  With the given timeslot, I'd be curious to see what kind of numbers were viewing online.
