If they don't lose the first two. Man, Ball St looks awful. Yet, they still completely manhandled us this year. It could be an ugly 3 weeks for our conference.

Already lost the first one.  Toledo came apart in the 4th Q and lost to Utah St in the Tater Bowl last weekend.

Ball St was never really in this one.  They gave up TDs on UCF's first two possessions and haven't gotten close after giving up a TD to make it 21-7 in the 2nd Q.  UCF has overpowered them offensively and defensively.

From Dr. Saturday's "Sad college football letters to Santa" article:

Dear Santa,

We know you see who’s been naughty and nice, and we’ve been nice all year! Up here in the MAC we have seven bowl teams, and a pair ranked in the top 25. That’s as many ranked teams as the ACC and more than the Big East. And what did we get? Scrooge Herbstreit screaming about how awful it was that Northern Illinois play in a BCS game. Bah humbug. We need respect, and know the only way to get that is with some bowl wins. Toledo blew a gift-wrapped bowl win already, so that didn’t help. If you could just bring some bowl wins for the holidays, we’d be happy. We’ll promise to keep playing those crazy Wednesday games we know you love up at the North Pole.

Signed,

The MAC (#MACtion)

Even worse was Andre Ware saying a school from the MAC wasn't capable of digging out of being this far behind (in the 3rd Quarter) againt a Conf USA Team.

We need to get this conf winning some bowls games. Otherwise, Herbie and the others will be wearing out the "I told you so" headlines.

I turned the game off before halftime.  What shocked me was how slow Ball State's defense was.  On UCF's opening drive, Ball's D couldn't keep up with UCF's QB.  And Ball's DBs looked like junior high schoolers trying to cover UCF receivers.

Who says the MAC can't lose 'em all?

Off to a great start at 0-2!

The first two MAC bowl games have been virtual home games for the opposing team Utah State and UCF. Beyond just road bowl games both schools are conference championship level teams going up against 4th and 5th place type MAC schools. Ohio is dealing with mostly the same situation down in Shreveport next Friday with the exception that ULM isn't quite that good. My guess since Ohio performed poorly to end the season and in bowls in New Orleans and Mobile that odds are we're more competitive in Shreveport. The team has spent the last 5 weeks retooling for the game and the last time that happened we beat Penn State to open the season.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

That sounds like an excuse that an OSU fan gives when the SEC waxes their arse in a Florida Bowl or the Sugar Bowl.

That isn't the same excuse because OSU is ranked in the Top 5 or whatever and thus should be more than a match for any team that takes the field. Utah State and UCF had more wins, more highly rated and with a home crowd advantage.  It required a huge effort for Ohio to get the win last year up in Boise against Utah State and they are even better this season. I am just glad we didn't get the Potato Bowl a second year in a row for an ugly end to the season.

The MAC is to Non-BCS as the Big 10 is to BCS, eh?

You should've heard Colin Cowherd going off after looking at the All Big 10 Team.  Somelinke like 8 walk ons and barely any 3 star recruits.  He was ripping on them endlessly.

Comparing the stars of MAC recruits to that of, say, the Sun Belt can be kind of depressing as well.

I think there is something to the "home field advantage" for teams that are close to the bowl site. There's less travel and more fans for one of the teams. In addition to the games mentioned above, ECU got behind La-Laf 28-7 early in the New Orleans bowl yesterday before they rallied and made a game of it. They looked a lot like BSU vs UCF for the first 25 minutes or so.

CMU is using its home field advantage to the hilt so far vs. WKU.  17-7 halfway through the 2nd Q; they've scored on three of their first four possessions and are looking nothing like a 6-6 team.

You're right, the MAC can't lose them all.  And, a good friend of mine who is a BG grad assures me that after tomorrow afternoon the MAC will be 2-2, and then Ohio can make it 3-2!

The state of Ohio is now 0-2 after BGSUcks lost.  Just three schools left: Cincy (leading at the half), Ohio and Kent.  So Ohio's schools have to win out or have a losing record.

MAC is 1-3, so the conference needs to win out as well to finish above .500.

Sad to repeat a truism that I can't fully agree with but there is only one MAC win that matters in this bowl season and that is NIU.  If they win, we're golden no matter what else happens.  If it's a close loss, the other MAC games might get some attention.  But NIU gets blown out as the talking heads seem to think they will, the MAC is headed back to 2002 and second, even third class, FBS citizenship.

Is Ohio getting any injured players back for the bowl game? Or were they mostly lost for the season?

A few are back, including Carl Jones. Most were lost for the season. I posted my take on injury status in this thread.  The one place Ohio did get some players back was on the defensive line, and they needed them badly.

MAC has a good shot at ending up 3-4, far better than the 0-7 some feared. Tonight Kent attempts to complete a MAC-over-Sunbelt sweep when it plays Arkansas State. Ohio and CMU both beat Sunbelt teams, ULM and W. Kentucky, respectively.

In the go-daddy.com bowl both teams will have new coaches next year. In the case of Kent, Hazell showed the class to complete the year at Kent before starting up at Purdue. Meanwhile incoming coach Paul Haynes has also showed class, and has stayed in the background, meeting players, but generally acting like a fan until after the game. As a result, I think Kent should be focused, and the players should go about business, trying to win one last game for Hazell.

Meanwhile the situation at Arkansas State is considerably more messy. Malzahn has already moved on to Auburn, leaving Arkansas State in the hands of interim coach John Thompson, the defensive coordinator this year, and former head coach from East Carolina (career record 3-20). He will probably be gone after this game, though. The coach for Arkansas State next year, Bryan Harsin has been meeting with players, and announcing members of his staff. It seems to me that the players have to have a divided sense of loyalty - to Malzahn, to Thompson, and to Harsin.

Because I expect Kent to be the more focused, I'm picking Kent.

By the way, here's a list of the overall Bowl records by conference since 1998, the beginning of the BCS system. A Kent win would move the MAC up to 44.9%, passing CUSA and the Big Tendozen, and put then neck and neck with the WAC.

I  know, you'll all think someone like me needs to get a life, but I must admit that I am really excited to watch this game tonight and really hope Kent takes care of business!

I also think that NIU had a much better showing than several big time programs in games that followed.  Had NIU's db not had a late hit on a runner it would have caused a 3rd and long and the FSU QB for several series prior had been lousy.  A stop and a punt and down 7 anything could have happened.  This was after the ill advised sideline scramble throw that led to an unforced turnover on the pick.

TT needs to watch the Johnny tapes and run the ball about 4 times as often as 2012.  No reason he cannot be the TTech version here at Ohio.  That was a fun game watching him make OU look far worse than NIU did against FSU.
