As a former player, I have always been curious as to why we don't have a "Bobcat Walk" where the team can be greeted by fans as they walk into the stadium at home games. Does anyone else out there think this would be a good idea? Not sure if its possible, but i'm sure the players would love to be a part of this!

I worry about there being enough fans present for that walk to be a success.

Interesting idea but where would they walk from and where would they walk to?

How much time before the game does a team need before it can enter the stadium? Practicality issues here.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

Maybe the new IPF will allow for this kind of thing. Walk from the IPF into stadium about 2 hours before game time, and possibly encourage tailgaters to congregate around that area.

Vols do it about 2 hours before, and it's a big hit.

NC State does something similar on gamedays.  They enter about 2 hours before kickoff

The difference is those schools have the players come on buses from either campus or a hotel (where the team stays the night before). Our guys all arrive throughout the day from their dorms, apartments, etc.

It's a neat idea, but not worth renting buses and getting the players out of their gameday routine.

No they don't. Our guys stay in an off-campus hotel before home games.

I witnessed UC do a 'walk' this season when I went to their game against USF. I would like to see us adopt it as well.

They stopped that before last season as a cost-saving measure.

There is a pregame meal in Walter Hall. Could walk over from there.

First time I heard about this tradition was at the Penn State game and how they do it - pretty cool. The 'walk" from the IPF could work?

I'm pretty sure our guys (at least the ones on the traveling list) stay in hotels the night before games, and arrive at the stadium by bus a few hours before the game.

They used to, but this was axed as part of budget cuts. They used to stay at Burr Oak Lodge the night before games and take in a movie at Movies 10.

Almost no one sees it, but before every home game the 110 hangs out where the players and refs come out of the locker room, and the players get a little mini cheer walk before they go warm up.

They still stay at hotels the night before games.  I believe they use the Holiday Inn Express off of State Street.

Well they do walk from Walter to the Tower and that walk was pretty fun one day for my brother and I.  That first home game when you could pick up the authentic replica black jerseys last season my brother was on of the first to pick his up.  Immediately put in on and players that were walking to the Tower were immediately pointing out my brother and his TT numbered jersey.

Folks, this might be something neat to try once a season, but we simply don't have the numbers to make this a worthwhile project.  Sad but true.  This might be cool for the home opener and on homecoming, but are we going to have a Bobcat Walk at 3 pm on a November Wednesday before the 6 pm kick with EMU, with 8 people waving their pompoms?  This will be more embarrassing than impressive.  Maybe set this up as a home opener event, but we have a long way to go before this could be a reality before every home game.

I have wanted to do this for years.  The fan base has grown over the years. Don't tell me we won't have the numbers!  The fans want to participate, but don't know how. We get the word out and the fans will be there.  This presents a great opportunity for fans to show support.  I think the guys will love it, even if they don't show it. They'll most likely have the game face on, but hey, that's okay.  Yes, the team walks from Walter to the Tower.  That sidewalk should be lined with the band and fans, at the very least, at weekend games.  The team does not walk as a group.  They walk over whenever they finish their meal.  However, they walk in small groups and it probably takes about 30 min. from start to finish for them to all pass.  This needs to be started this season.  We can ask Coach Grooms for a general time such as two hours before kickoff or whatever it may be. It will be another great season! LET'S DO IT!!

I'm fully aware that this would be hard to do on a week to week basis, but it can be done on say a 'Black Out" game or any game that has a theme. With all the social networking out, its nothing to send out a tweet or post something on facebook to get the student body out for this event. Every great tradition had to start somewhere!!

Can't have a tradition if we don't try it.

This would seem to be a lot easier than going from a history and culture of losing to one of winning.  And we done that.

Where's the band?!

I might come over...I might not. But what does this really accomplish?

Will the players perform better? Will more people come to the games? Will we generate more money for the athletic department? I don't think this goes towards accomplishing any particular goal.

If your reason for doing it is that "Penn State and O$U do", I'm not sure it's all that worthwhile.
