The game Ohio always plays the day after Thanksgiving could be played off campus. Would there be a better draw for the game if it was played for example in Canton at the Hall of Fame Stadium? Alumni from Northeast Ohio could travel more easily for the game and the game could be promoted and sold locally all season in Canton. Play it against Kent State every year and make it a trophy game. A more exciting way to end the season than playing in Athens with the students away.

You'll always get more people for a game in Athens than playing it in some other corner of the state. Think about the MAC Basketball Championship game. We get maybe 1,500-2,000 local alumni to come out for a huge game. Put that crowd in the Hall of Fame Stadium and it's an embarrassment.

BG played Buffalo in Crew Stadium this year in front of an actual crowd of 2-3,000 (announced was 8,000 ish). Let's learn from their mistake!

Here is the key thing to remember; we are not Bowling Green. I'm talking about trying to play Black Friday in Canton against Kent State and advertise it all year long. Have it as a bonus game in season ticket packages. Could this game sell 20,000 with 15,000 in the stands? Fawcett Stadium seats 22,500. Think of it this way, would it be easier for Ohio fans in Athens to travel to Canton than Kent State? Yes because its 45 minutes closer. Can a Black Friday game sell 22,500 in Athens? That isn't going to happen. If the main economic benefit of an Ohio home football game is the out of town visitors and they aren't visiting the day after Thanksgiving why host a game in town?

If I'm going to get up at 6am on black friday with a turkey (and wine...lots of wine) induced hangover and drive to a football game from my parent's house, that destination had damned sure well better be in Athens. If I get out of the car at 9-10am on black friday and I'm in some soot-stained, kent/kron smelling corner of OHIO rather than on the Athens Block Bricks, I'm throwing up and going back home. This plan MIGHT make sense for the NE Ohio alums, but it is literally taking a piss on OHIO fans from the South and SouthWest corners of the state.

Didn't we play in Kent a few times on Black Friday? How was our attendance? Those same NE Ohio alumni would be just as available to make a game at Kent as they would a game in Canton.

I was at the game last Black Friday. Our crowd was good, not great. Kent had a nice showing of non-students. Granted, they were ranked at the time.

Sure, all the same NE Ohio alumni would go to Canton, but I really don't think it would attract many more Athens-area fans than a game in Kent would. It's only about a half hour closer. I don't think Fawcett is anything special. I view it as Canton McKinley's home stadium, so for me it'd be like playing the game in a high school stadium.

Plus, it would probably cost us a home game at least every other year. I'd rather max out true home games than play one in Canton that would have just slightly more OHIO fans than a game in Kent.

I think a Black Friday game for us at Crew stadium might work out better for us than  it did BG.  Don't know the central Ohio alum numbers but they have to be fairly high....also would be a closer drive than an Athens game for northern Ohio folks.

We need to be at a stadium next to a shopping mall.  Load up on stuff, throw it in the car and walk to the game.

Is there any possible way for the MAC to change schedules in a way that gets rid of games on this weekend completely?

I've seen crazier things happen.

I suppose they could if they eliminated a bye week. Might be nice to give teams an extra week to prepare for the MAC championship

Who wants to play Kent on Black Friday anywhere anyway?  I want M^%$# back in that season-ending slot.  NOW!

Put that game in Crew stadium, advertise it as being at J Crew stadium and watch the visitor seats fill up.

Black Friday is a great date.  Let's have the game start late afternoon or early evening though.

If we're having a good season (let's get ranked!), then that date is mighty attractive.

No matter where played.

Once again, winning makes it all good.

in reality, I would only want a game in Crew Stadium if it was a 2 year deal (both teams lose a home game), and as for oxford, I want them to be the last game.

+1  Last time I looked OUr school was in Athens.  Let's keep our HOME games at HOME.  Always think those who move home games do so out of some sort of desperation.

Playing, for instance,  MichState in Cleveand stadium  would be an affront, would be against the mission, would bebad for the fanbase and program?

No not horrible, but playing MSU in Athens would be awesome!  If they can find their way to Kalamazoo and Mt. Pleasant, they could certainly play in Athens if we made the right pitch.  Think big!

If you go this route, might as well make the game on Thanksgiving.  The players are missing Thanksgiving away from their families anyway.  Nothing to do for lots of people on this day other than spend time with the family and over eat.

Play the game at night and bill it as prep for mid night madness at Belden Village and the Summit Mall.  Ticket holders get a special entrance into the mall 30 minutes prior to opening.  (Some might buy a ticket just to get in early) Just have some police there to take care of business.

There is little competition with sports on that day as long as the Browns aren't playing Dallas or Detroit.

Agree--good thinking.

Any day that OHIO plays is a great day.
