Unreal.  Throw his ass out of school.  See Athens News report.  Keith "Mike" Lewis, RS Freshman.

Should they wait until there is a trial/conviction, or just lynch him? What about the other four, not-named students? Should they all be thrown out, too?

Best I can figure there is no Mike Lewis on the roster. There's a Mike Lucas. If the report was accurate, then it isn't a player. If the name was incorrectly reported, possibly implicating my chiropracter down here in central Florida, then the perpetrator of the inaccuracy needs to go sit in the corner or ... heck, throw 'em out!

There are two separate threads on this. Here is the other thread. The Athens News did report it correctly as Mike Lucas. It was SBH who copied it to this thread incorrectly.

As you would expect, Lucas reportedly has been suspended, pending the investigation, so no need to gather everyone together with flaming pitchforks at this time.

So, if SI couldn't lead this article with "lineman for #25 Ohio..." does it still make the national wire?

Welcome to the big time, boys and girls.  Try not to mind the cameras and microphones watching you behave irresponsibly (and stupidly) like thousands of other college freshman on a homecoming weekend.

You have to believe that one of the last things Frank and his staff told the team after releasing them post-game on Saturday was, "Stay out of trouble."

The one I used was, "Don't do anything dumb."  For athletes, "Nothing good happens after 11:59 p.m."

And WTH was he doing out at almost 4:00 am??

"An OU Police report shows that shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, an officer responded to an assault call near room 141 of Sargent Hall ...."

If he's found guilty I think he should be removed from the team and lose his scholarship. He is a red shirt .. so he'll be around 5 years which is probably $125,000 or so of educational benefits ....

Given that the charge is a felony, I think that is a certainty. The question gets trickier, though, if the charge is reduced or dropped.

We've had several players charged with assault over the years, and not all end up off the team. The most memorable case was Steve  Hookfin, who was acquitted at trial and went on to become the school's all-time leading rusher at the time. He's now a respected high school head football coach. Another case that drew a lot of attention was that of Paul Johnson. He was convicted of assault at The Pub, sentenced to 10 days of jail and originally wasn't suspended for a game. He eventually was suspended and was finishing out his eligibility the next season when he was injured. Johnson is now offensive line coach at the University of Charleston. Still another was when running backs Brad Young and Chris Hutchinson got into some trouble. Young returned to play, but Hutchinson did not.

Anyway, the point is, being charged of assault doesn't always (sometimes, not always) make you the idiot you appear to be in the initial reports and sometimes one can still go on lead a productive life. We'll have to see once the case goes through the system.

Then there was my childhood hero Dennis Fitzgerald, kicked off the team for something assault-ish. Never quite figured it out exactly but it must have been pretty bad to kick a preseason all-american off the team.

Per Arkley's twitter earlier today: OL Mike Lucas was scheduled for court today regarding his assault charge. According to Athens Muni. Court website, the charge was dismissed.

Mind if we throw his ass back in now that he has had due process?

This is what makes The Post's tactics against athletes so ridiculous...  No other names were published on a now dismissed case, but now this young man will have to explain away charges he was not found guilty of the rest of his life.

I've seen crazier things happen.

He is being charged with a felony, all felonies in Athens County are dismissed from Municipal Court and then brought before the Grad Jury. This dismissal in this wording as is on the docket means they are moving forward with formal felony charges. That is also why he has not been allowed back on the team, he is facing real jail time and a real issue, will more than likely be kicked out of school.

Formality, he is in front of the Grand Jury and facincing serious charges. See above post. Has nothing to do with reporting of the Post.
