Per CoachingStaff.com Nevada's James Ward will be Ohio's new DB coach. Solid.

The DB coach is another Mountain West guy. Are we going to get more West Coast recruiting from the staff with 3 defensive coaches from out west?

I think So Cal was coach Ward's territory while at Nevada. Not sure where coach Reed recruited or what the
Ohio assignment will be.  I like what he has produced.

The key to attracting quality coaches like this at Ohio is brand. A school with state name of the #7 most populated state situated on Princeton Review's #8 campus. The brand brings the quality coaches in and then those coaches install systems they recruit that a run of the mill coaching staff of the MAC can't compete with. There is never a problem with APR requirements here either. Schools in the MAC like Akron are constantly struggling to attract student athletes. Athletes they can get, but student athletes tend to avoid low rung schools. Daz Patterson for example would not have given Akron a look. Ohio takes a few chances too but the recruiting classes at some schools on our level are loaded with them. The thinking behind adding UMass to the MAC was they could do the same as Ohio by attracting the student athlete and quality coaches because of brand name.
