Ohio
Aug.
31 at Louisville
Sep.
7 North Texas
14 Marshall
21 Austin Peay
Oct.
5 *at Akron
12 *Central Michigan
19 *at Eastern Michigan
26 *Miami
Nov.
5 #*at Buffalo, 8:00 pm ET (ESPN2/ESPNU)
12 #*at Bowling Green, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
19 #*Kent State, TBA (ESPN2/ESPNU)
29 #*UMass, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)

Thoughts:
-
Central Michigan looks like it will be the homecoming game. I doubt the university waits until the 26th to host that weekend.
-Miami on an October Saturday? Sign me up. But will that be Halloween Saturday? If it is, that can potentially be a good crowd. I know it was terrible a few years ago when we were hosting Louisiana-Lafayette, but if marketed well and scheduled early enough in the day, that could be a pretty special atmosphere.
-The BG game potentially could be broadcasted only on ESPN3? I don't care if it's 2013, ESPN3 is not real television. If that game is available only on ESPN3, there will be very few eyes watching it in any capacity.
-Kent should be a good crowd for a midweek game. Look for that to be the blackout special.
-UMass on Black Friday? They may want to sell tickets at $10 for that one.

Is it just my aging eyes or does the mac-sports.com page use a really weird font in the 2013 Schedules press release?

They sold tickets for the Temple game on Black Friday 2009 for only $5, so maybe they might drop it down to 5 for UMass.

Arkley's latest Tweets show chance to keep winning more games, plus no "3 games in 12 days" scenario.

I like this schedule a lot better than last year's.  Just a couple thoughts:  1)  Those from outside of Ohio University, who pay the ridiculous fee to visit their friends on Halloween in the dorms, should receive a ticket to the game.  2)  Everybody hates Black Friday, but I personally like it.  However, I can understand why some people would be against it.  Marketing is going to have be very creative to sell for that game.  It would be cool if Peden Stadium went with a Black Friday theme and had ridiculous deals on concessions, merchandise, tickets, etc.  Maybe work with community businesses on free-giveaways.

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.

I haven't had time to analyze it for every team yet (though perhaps this evening after work), but it looks like we aren't getting shafted this year. Actually, the MAC office must have felt bad for us because we seem to benefit from having as much as or more rest as all of our conference opponents. In short:
We and our opponents have equal rest 5 times (CMU, EMU, Miami, Buffalo, BGSU)
We have marginally more rest (1 day) once (Kent)
We have much more rest (4 days, 7 days) twice (UMASS and Akron, respectively)

OHIO's Rest (Days) Opponent's Rest (Days)
Akron 14 7
CMU 7 7
EMU 7 7
Miami 7 7
Buffalo 10 10
BGSU 7 7
Kent 7 6
UMASS 10 6

All in all, I'd say that thats fairly favorable, with the caveat I haven't looks at the rest of the pair-wise comparisons to see just how favorable our favorable-looking schedule actually is, if they were ranked most-to-least favorable.

EDIT: After some further research, we owe somebody in the MAC offices a fruit basket or a Shuffle or something along those lines. We have the best schedule in the MAC. As I noted above, we have 12 more days of rest between games than our opponents. The next closest team in those terms is CMU (+10), and Kent State (+3) is the closest to us in the East. The cherry on top: Miami has the least favorable breakdown, having 11 fewer days rest than their opponents.

Team Score
OHIO 12
CMU 10
WMU 9
Kent St 3
UMASS 3
EMU 3
NIU -1
Akron -3
Ball State -5
Buffalo -5
BGSU -7
Toledo -8
Miami -11

Halloween is on a Thursday this year. I can see the big block party being Nov. 2 rather than Oct. 26. Plus if it's 11/2 you have the added bonus on an extra hour of partying when we turn the clocks back.

Exactly!  Great Schedule with none too close together.  In fact, we get 10 days off before the switch to the 3 Tuesday games, then 10 days off before the Black Friday game.

13 days off from Non-Con to our 1st MAC game.

The schedule sets up pretty well to rest and recover during the season!

If Central is homecoming, I'm thrilled because I guessed the right week to ask for vacation all the way back in November.

Would like to see Herbie having a conniption next December over Ohio being invited to a BCS bowl.

I started a thread about a Halloween Home Game back when we were undefeated and life was good.

I maintain my stance, it is a bad idea if we are not undefeated.  However, if we are undefeated, that is a very special game.  Very special.  Ohio University and Athens are known for Halloween.  The potential is there to have Ohio football complement that, it just can't be seen as competing against it...  If we are undefeated, it will not be seen that way.

I like where are bye weeks are a lot.

Past practice would suggest it'll be 11/2.

I like this schedule. My only complaint is that I would have liked Can't and BUGS in October, but I'll take being better rested than every conference opponent over that every single time.

it would be nice if the eastern game was a 700 start. Of course it won't be that late in the year . My son and I however were looking to go the Indiana-Michigan game that same day and it would make a great end to drive the 5 miles over too watch us play.

Ohio just announced Homecoming Weekend October 11-13. Good planning, Alex.

That just means an extra 10-15 more people will see the game than if it were on another day.
