Maybe this is what we should try if the Big Tenfinity cuts back on OOC games.

The last line sums it up well:

"Aren’t you glad our elected officials are spending their time on meaningful issues?"

Maybe they should also legislate that the game be close going into the 4th quarter to enhance TV ratings.  There are bona fide economic benefits there.

It's been done in other states.  West Virginia comes to mind as one close by.   Legislatures do lots of things . . . some of greater import than others.  I'd say that this is somewhere between passing a bill to fund state capital improvement projects for the next two years and passing a resolution commending Podunk High School for its Take a Pet to School Day.

I don't believe there is a state "law" that MU and WVU must play a game in West Virginia. The last govenor did get involved in the the "last" football series. Currently,  MU wants a one for one series wih WVU and WVU wants a two for one series in football. WVU would like to end current the annual game in basketball.  WVU will not play basketball in Huntington since they never have never won a game in Huntington. I believe they are 0-4 in basketball games in at MU.

One of the reasons MU left the MAC was WVU's policy of not playing games at MAC schools. Also, one of the reasons MU expanded their football stadium to nearly 40,000 was to take away the argument that MU's football was "not worthy" for a home game against WVU.

These days all you have to do is claim the law will create jobs or promote economic development and state legislators jump right on it.

Just think what requiring O$U to play a game in Athens would do for the local economy.  We could probably get a grant from the ARC to put in a second deck.  Local hotels would make a killing.  Ditto restaurants.  And, all the construction jobs for that second deck would improve the Athens County employment rate and fill the city coffers with income tax revenue.  OK, Pataskala you've got your assignment!

Flat Tire, upon reflection, you're right.  What I was remembering was the threat by some House of Delegates members to introduce a bill.  I think the governor's negotiations made the legislation unnecessary.

Doesn't OSU already do this?  Except in Ohio we have quite a few more schools they have to schedule to share some wealth with.

I challenge anyone to name...politics...an activity that does not create jobs.

Or a lack or cease of activity that does not.
