Mario has good size for multiple roles on the team.  Might Mario see some RB time?  I had high expectations for him last season.  Hope he is 100%.  If he can recover and make the WR game rotation, never mind.  Go Mario.

He played QB in high school, so you never know.

What the *%*(#% is with the apparent lack of interest on the football board lately?

This year has much potential:  Tell me how many years we've had in which we've had returning starters such as Tettleton, Beau, TCarrie to name only a few?

Isn't anyone enthused at all?  Season starts in only about 50 days and camp must open in about 20-25.

So, yes Mario Dovell.  If he's healthy then all he should give us is even more o-ffensive poundonyou.  Is he our best pure athlete at wideout--hasn't he made some rather athletic, take-em-right-out-of-the-db's-hands grabs for us?

Nobody fired up at all for this year?

Oh, Monroe, I don't think it's a lack of interest or enthusiasm for the team this year.  I know I'm anxious to see these guys take the field and go after L'ville on 9/1.  But after last season, there's probably some caution there.  We were all (or most of us) expecting 10+ wins and a MACC, and when it fizzled it was tough to take.

This season could be similar.  After L'ville, just one team of the next seven on the schedule had a winning record last season -- CMU (7-6), and we have them at home.  If all goes well, we should be no worse than 8-1 going into BGSUcks for Game 10.  With Kent and UMass home games after that, we could very well be at least 10-2; 11-1 is very doable (12-0 is not impossible). But after last year, I'm not willing to do too much daydreaming about our chances this year.  Not yet, anyway.

If the schedule had more winning records or more high-profile games -- not necessarily an AQ but a Toledo or a Utah St or a LaTech or a MTSU -- I think there'd be more conversation here.

It wasn't the lack of talent that caused our season to be a 9-4. It was injuries. More injuries than the team has ever and perhaps more than Frank has ever experienced. It was like a 100 year storm. These years don't come along very often.
So I believe this year will revert back to a more normal injury year and that means another very strong W-L record.
There is no doubt that the overall teams experience level was strengthened by more players gaining PT last year.
I too am looking forward to a very strong season.

Pataskala and 71--I know that you guys get it.  So, I'm kinda 'preaching to the choir' here.

I understand tempering expectations (well, not really).  But the potential is so nice.  With merely a reasonable amount of injuries and merely reasonable performance by the guys on the team, we should have a fine year.  Then, if some more guys develop..well, it could be a real sweet year.

But it's as if very few of us are aware of it.

From the the lack of activity and excitement on the foot threads, you'd think we won just a few games last year and have potential to be about .500 this year.

I feel more passion from L.C. and BigBlob--great Nebraska and/or NW guys who didn't even go to OHIO--than I do most of the OHIO crowd.

side note:  L.C. and Blob--if you make it to Athens, please let me know as I'd be happy to have you use my tix.

A healthy Mario Dovell could really do wonders for this offense.  We've seen a lot of promising things from him, but he has been either buried in the depth chart or injured.  I thought last season was going to be a big year for him, prior to getting hurt.  I'm guessing he is in the running for both returning kicks and punts.

Also, I was wondering if he would be eligible to apply for a sixth year since he redshirted freshman year and was or should have been a medical redshirt last year?  I wondered the same thing about Troy Hill, which shows I need to read up on the 6th year eligibility rules.

If either of them have missed an entire year due to injury and have not been applied a medical redshirt once before, then yes they should be granted a medical hardship waiver for a 6th year of eligibility. I honestly don't even think it has to be the whole year, but it makes it more or less guaranteed. The official ruling is that they have to at least miss a certain percentage of games played by the team.

Yes, I'm sure he would be eligible to apply for a 6th year, if he wants to. His Freshman year he missed because he was still recovering from an injury in his Senior year of High School, and last year was also due to an injury. He can't apply, however, until after this season is completed, I believe. Whether or not he chooses to apply is up to him.
