Looking at the MAC ranks, I see:
Coaches Most Likely to Move up:
Dave Clawson - BG - He seems certain to have a great season this year, and has a track record of progress. He probably will get an offer. A win over Tulsa, Indiana, or Mississippi State, or a Mac Championship would make a move up even more likely.
Pete Lembo - Ball State - Another Coach who has steady progress. With a relatively easy OOC schedule, 10 wins are very possible. With a win over Toledo or NIU, he's probably going to get an offer.
Terry Bowden - Akron - Akron was so bad when he got there, being competitive is probably at least a 3 year project. He improved the team a great deal last year. Still, Even with a similar improvement this year, he still won't win enough games to get an offer, but with a winning season, that might change. He's probably at least another 2 more years away.


Coaches on the Hot Seat:
Enos - CMU - Considering where the program was 4 years ago, his 4 years don't look very good. With a few upsets, he might hang on, though.
Ron English - EMU - In 2011 they looked like they were making progress, but this is his 5th year, and they still are below where they were when he started. No one has won at EMU, though, so there isn't as much pressure on him as there is at some other schools. He may stay.
Charlie Molnar - UMass - With few starters back from a bad team, this won't be a good year for him, but I am sure he gets at least 3-4 years

I'd add Don Treadwell to the hot seat list. Fiami has been very much not good since he took over a MACC winning team.

PJ Fleck could be one-and-done at WMU too, if he has any kind of success this year (i.e., bowl appearance). His gimmicks are getting too much national attention for some AD somewhere not to think about hiring him.

Do we really consider coach Bowden as a move-up candidate?  I get the feeling he's modeling himself after coach Solich. He's been there/done that as far as bigtime football and probably is relishing the chance to build a program.  I don't think Akron hired him to turn it around in 3 years and bolt.

Bowden is bringing in a bunch (10ish) one-year wonders this year.  I firmy believe he will jump to a new job - any new job that's even slightly better - if offered.  And if he wins 5-6 games, that could be good enough.

He's not building a program a la Solich - he's trying to win quick at the expense of long-term player development.

If Bowden's really bringing in a lot of transfers and Jucos, that is certainly a sign he's not trying to build a long-term program. I think Akron's AD was hoping he had hired another Solich, but, like you, I suspect that Bowden wants Akron to be a stepping stone back to the big time. Another 1-2 win season won't cut it, but I agree, 6 wins might be enough for him to be gone. I think they will continue to improve, but I don't think he will win 6, though.

As for Treadwell, yes, Treadwell's seat is warm. With a bad season he'll probably be gone.  With a mediocre season, he may buy another year. Fleck? Yes, he has gotten a lot of attention. He has shown himself to be a great recruiter, and has landed the best recruiting class, by far, that I have ever seen for any MAC team. Their class is ranked in the top 25 classes, I believe. So, we know he's a salesman, but can he also coach? If he has a good season, you are probably right that he's one and done.
