A group of friends and I have decided last minute to try to make the trek to homecoming this year. We were banking on the alumni getaway dorm lodging package but apparently they're not offering it this year due to "record enrollment" (a positive for sure, but sad for me in this situation). Does anyone know what our best option would be, considering all of the hotels have been booked up for months? We wouldn't rule out camping, but would want to be within cab distance to campus. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Crash a house party on Friday night, spend the evening pumping the keg and making friends, pass out on the couch, get up in the morning and enjoy the day, repeat that evening.

Stay with a friend of a friend of a friend or a relative of a friend, etc.

Even with graduating in 2006 I still seem to find someone I know there and crash for homecoming.

I know a few siblings of friends that are there but they are living in dorms. We wanted to avoid being the creepy  mid to late twentysomethings staying in a freshman dorm.

I believe they have camping at Strouds Run.  You might want to also try vrbo http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/ohio/athens I linked it for Athens but you can broaden the search.

This is a pretty cool idea. I haven't researched it yet to see if they provide in Athens though.

Try airbnb.com.

I had already tried AirBnB with no luck. The gameday link doesn't do Athens. The vacation rental link is a good resource, thanks!

ProKOS rentals rents out rooms in a house but it is really expensive for what you get and they "prefer parents to young alumni who might have a tendency to get rowdy."

You mentioned you were willing to camp. Lake Snowden isn't that far of a cab ride.

Not to be a selfish pig, but as far as ProKOS Rentals is concerned fortunately for me I fit into the former category and was hoping to find a place local to stay in Athens for Dad's Weekend in early November as everything else is sold out.  That being said, how do they know I'm not going to get rowdy myself?  Or at least as a rowdy as a 50 year old can get........

Sorry to hear about your situation DelBobcat and I hope you guys find a place to crash.

As a suggestion if you don't find anywhere close to stay and don't mind a 35 minute drive or so, I've had good luck with the Wyndham-Wingate in Parkersburg; it's a nice hotel and the Bob Evans down the street from it isn't nearly as crowded as the Bob Evans in Athens.

I realize this may not help for cab-ride, but since P-Burg was mentioned above, for others: if you don't mind that length of a drive, consider some of the cabins around the Hocking Hills, too. Nice change of pace, and great if you're getting away with a significant other. (2 night minimum on weekends isn't uncommon here, but pricing is quite reasonable for the smaller cabins, depending on the season).
