Interesting piece by Barnhart.  Eventually, the "haves" are likely to do away with guarantee games and play only other "haves."  But there are several realities they'll need to face.  Without games against the Akrons, EMUs and NMSUs of the world, at least half of them will likely have losing seasons.  The Big Twelv won't have nine of its ten members with winning records.  And with 50+ bowl games (likely), a lot of bowls will be disgruntled because they'll probably have small crowds and low TV interest because they'll have teams with losing records.  But the real losers will probably be those former 1AA schools that are planning to use guarantee money to pay for the huge facilities upgrades they needed to move up to 1A.

The Pig5 don't have the guts.

Ohio State plays 3 buyout games per year and earns avg ticket revenue per game of $5.2m. That's $15.6m - $3m in buyout for a net of $12.2m for those 3 OOC games. Change those to 1:1s and they lose 1.5 home games per year which is $7.8m in ticket revenue + travel expenses. Not going to happen.
